The storefront is now closed, however you should be able to find a selection of Morning Star Bakery baked German goods freshly made at local grocers, including the Whole Foods in Interbay. YUM. I was compelled to make a comment because I absolutely support Morning Star Bakery and I go to Whole Foods intentionally to purchase their pretzels!

Yummy Salty Pretzel Creations SITREP I have wondered these past couple of years if the mavens of Morning Star Bakery were directly/indirectly involved with the good people of Kaffeeklatsch Bakery since the pretzel creations remind me of the pretzel dogs at Kaffeeklatsch. But I have not been able to piece together a connection(as of yet). THESETUP Once with counter, and now by phone appointment only, Morning Star mainly runs as an auxiliary to catering assignments. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t place an order and then go pick it up if you already know what you want. Besides pretzels, there are fruit tarts and cheese danishes and a host of other good solid German pastries. THELOWDOWN Great, inexpensive, traditional German-style baked goodies.

The most tragic thing happened in Seattle several months ago: Morning Star Bakery shut down it’s store front. Frankly having the whole of West Seattle sink into the sound would have been less disastrous to our lives. This is/was the best bakery in Seattle. The cherry danish was the thing I could not get enough of from this jewel of 65th Ave. The filling was tart(not the over sweetened stuff every place else uses) the pastry light and flaky with just a drizzell of sweet sugar icing on the top. It was the best pastry I have had in Seattle, Chicago, LA or New York. And now it’s gone, now I am stuck with Greatful Bread and their over sweetened crap with loud bratty adults and their worse behaved children!

I’m so sad! The other day I walked by and saw that they are no longer open as a walk-in location and just function as a catering biz and… something else, I think, but I can’t recall what. :(

As of April 11, the bakery has closed its retail operations. Sadly, I tried to go this weekend and it was closed.

+++ for the pretzel rolls — $ 0.90(vs. $ 2.29 at Whole Foods down the street, and here you get them fresh from the oven) — less than a bagel down the street, much tastier, and no surly college kids, just a very nice staff and always-kind patrons who keep my daughter from running behind the counter. Everything we’ve gotten there — cookies, breads, pastries — have been excellent. The only bummer is that they’re closed on Sundays, when we’re most likely to be at the aforementioned surly bagel shop.

Pretzel rolls: Who knew? Buttery, squishy, chewy, salty, without the effort(and wasted space) of all those knots and twists. Allows for extremely efficient consumption. I cannot wait for more.

Simply, simply amazing German bakery, located in Ravenna right on 65th. A little hole-in-the-wall storefront, but houses a large kitchen in the back. My husband and I walked here one lazy Saturday morning after reading a review in the paper. I bought an almond danish and a cream cheese danish; I can’t recall what he had. The place itself was delightful and unpretentious, with perhaps a couple chairs for those who couldn’t wait to get home to eat their pastries or bread. The prices were completely affordable(unlike Ala Francaise or Le Panier) and the danishes were absolutely heavenly. Lightly sweet, fluffy(not cakey) pastry, beautifully made. They do have limited opening hours though, so call if you’re not sure. I don’t think they open past 4pm.
