We have hired Jared for two projects. The first was right after we bought our house in Georgetown three years ago. The inspector had found a few small things that needed fixing. Shingle siding had been broken on the corner of the house, and a small overhanging porch had been installed without flashing. We found Jared either through Angie’s List or Craigslist. Jared came right over(on his bicycle) to look at it. Within a few days we had a bid. We hired him, and the work was done in one day. We were very pleased with the result. Fast forward to last fall, and we contacted Jared about two more small projects. Our upstairs bathroom had an exhaust fan, but we couldn’t use it because whoever did the remodel never hooked it up to the outside. Also, above the stove was a built in microwave that we wanted removed and replaced with an actual vent hood that was also hooked up to the outside. Jared came over to look at the work and within a couple of days had emailed us his bid. Jared blocked out four days to do the work. While doing the work on the kitchen fan, he discovered that he would have to cut through a joist in order to get the vent through. This required some special thing to keep the ceiling from caving in that Jared could explain to you, but that I don’t know and it isn’t important to the narrative. The important thing is, Jared communicated with us immediately about the change and the added cost. We were very happy with the work Jared did on this job. He finished the work in 2 days. When I would come home at night, the work areas were always clean, to the point that, except for the obvious signs of work being done, you would be hard pressed to tell that workers had been in the house. We have a cat, and he was very respectful about being careful not to let him out of the house. The fans he installed look and work wonderfully. We would hire Jared again, and in fact, already have a front porch project lined up to call him about.

We hired Jared to remodel the front entry to our little 1900’s Craftsman gable-front bungalow. This required him to remove an existing flat awning(unsupported roof) above the front door as well as the poured concrete entry area. The house is small and simple, and the sagging awning gave it a very sad and depressed look as well as making the house appear run down(which it’s not.) We asked him to replace all of this with a brand new portico-type of entry that would be harmonious with Craftsman-style construction as well as a new mini-deck to replace the concrete pad. We didn’t need it to be historically accurate, just to create a proper entrance experience that felt inviting and homey but would add some class to the structure! He designed a great structure in perfect scale with the house, and details that echoed its structure. Work began as soon as we’d approved everything and given Jared our down payment. When the concrete pad was removed, the support beam under the front door was exposed and we discovered dry rot. Jared handled everything quickly and professionally, and made it very easy for us to correct the problem and ensure the new work was up to code. He thoughtfully documented all of the steps so that we’d have it on record for potential future buyers. Once this problem was managed things moved ahead quickly and well. Jared was tremendously professional and communicative throughout, keeping us up to date on the project status and alerting us immediately if there were decisions that needed to be made. He was informative and respectful, and made great recommendations when we weren’t sure how to proceed. The finished entry is just what we’d hoped for. It looks like part of the house, has increased the curb appeal to an incredible degree(beyond words) and has extra details that Jared suggested that make it really special — copper rainchains instead of downspouts(I’d never even heard of them before), sustainable and beautiful Tigerwood for the deck(it’s a gorgeous hardwood that will not be damaged by our dogs, as cedar would have been), and natural wood for the ceiling of the entry roof to give everything an extra warm and inviting feeling. Jared is a man of his word, and always showed up when he said he would, returned calls and emails promptly, and did work exactly as agreed upon. If there were ever any changes or if he was going to be late, he always called so we never ever were left to wonder what was going on, or where he was as sometimes happens with contracted labor! We really appreciated this. He holds himself to a very high personal standard of conduct and service, and makes sure things are not only done but done right. One example is that after everything was completed, we noticed a little bit of seepage coming from the seams in the gutter. It wasn’t damaging anything, and I probably could have lived with it, but Jared(at his own expense I should add) pulled the gutters off and replaced them with new, seamless ones so they were completely watertight and perfect. These little things matter to him, so rest assured even if you don’t know or can’t tell that there is a problem, Jared will spot it, tell you about it, and take care of it. He was a complete pleasure to work with, he’s a lovely human being, and has genuine integrity. We’re planning to hire Jared again in the future for some other interior and exterior projects.
