Friendly people, good things to eat and drink, and a nice quiet place to get some work done.

For a girl who often substitutes coffee shops for her work desk, Holly’s is a comfy cubicle with easy access to hot drip and fresh bagels in the office kitchen. It’s no executive suite, and the dark lighting is just as bad as those ugly overhead fluorescents I’m avoiding at work, but Holly’s can get the job done…

It’s so hard to rate an espresso shop in Seattle. Let’s just say for the sake of round numbers that there are 10 thousand places to get espresso in this city. Let’s exclude all the Starbuck’s, the Tully’s and the other giant chains. I mean face it, if you’re going to talk about great pizza in Seattle, you won’t be talking about Pizza Hut and Domino’s. Let’s say that leaves 4 thousand independent, mom and pops, and small local chains. Of those it’s safe to assume that half of them are crap.(There are a lot more places to get coffee here than there are places to get good coffee.) That brings the number down to 2 thousand. Take that in half to root out the decent but inconsistent places, which brings the total number of good local coffee shop to 1 thousand. Now what? I go to Holly’s because it’s right up the street, the people aren’t mean and it isn’t over priced. The coffee? Yeah, it works!
