Best Latte I have had in 15 years!!! I work near here and finally stopped in to grab a quick coffee. I was a big SB drinker but after coming here not any more. The atmosphere is wonderful! The food is fantastic! I cant stop telling my coworkers about this place!!!

I’m no coffee expert but I didn’t feel the coffee was anything to rave about. I had an iced zebra mocha. But, this a very cute hidden gem in Georgetown! The barista was Lots of salads, donuts and goodies in the case(didn’t try any, but they looked good!) and a little soup bar! Seating inside as well as a small patio that is surrounded with trees and bushes that make the patio seem secluded instead of in the middle of an industrial area! Three or four small tables on the rooftop patio, but there’s not much of a view.

My weekly work coffee spot with simple and healthy lunch too. They serve soup, sandwiches, salads, quiches and specials too. Their bakery goods are yummy and the coffee is quick and delicious. The owner does a great job juggling his customers.

I just left Espresso By Design and am annoyed and disappointed. I’m a barista myself and the guy working really pissed me off with the way he made my coffee. I’m not sure why no shot glasses are used to pour shots here, but that was just my first red flag. I told him I wanted a white chocolate raspberry mocha, nice and sweet. I could tell by the color when he handed it to me that it was going to need more raspberry. I told him this and proceeded to taste it, only to get a mouthful of white chocolate powder chunks I told him he didn’t dissolve the white chocolate and he took my coffee back. I thought oh he’s going to remake it. No. He melted some white chocolate with hot water in a separate cup, poured a couple inches out of my coffee and poured the hot water/white chocolate mix into my cup. I was annoyed because A) now there is less espresso in my coffee B) this isn’t going to dissolve the powder already resting in my glass. C) lazy I tipped too, and bought food. you’d think he could take 2 minutes to make a proper cup of coffee or take the time to fix his mistake. For $ 12, I won’t be back. My 2 stars are bc my food was good, and the coffee could have been good if the barista would have taken his time to do his job right. Espresso by design needs to hire more friendly, experienced, and careful baristas.

One of the BEST independent Coffee Houses in town. Always fast, friendly and great cup of espresso. The food is tasty too! Love the outdoor seating area and friendly staff… worth a trip!

The annoying guy who sings isn’t there anymore. That’s good. Prices went up a tad. They got rid of the honor system drip coffee station. That’s bad, for the honor system and drip coffee drinkers who don’t like to stand in the line that seems to be getting longer since they’re under staffed more lately. There used to be funky yet functional furniture in there and now it’s uninviting Ikea crap no one wants to sit on. The hands-off landscaping philosophy seems to be working as there are some lovely sunflowers sprouting up in the yard. Coffee is mediocre. Nice roof top deck!

They ALWAYS mess up my coffee order. I work right next to the place and have had to come here a few times and have always been disappointed. They are slow, and the coffee is not as delicious as surrounding coffee places. Also, full of hipsters.

Two words: chocolate bread. Come here, buy it, eat it, rinse and repeat. It’s friggin’ bread… that’s chocolate. I suggest buying some and then getting some bacon, jalapenos and some cheese and making a chocolate bacon, jalapeño and cheese sandwich. You can thank me later for this brilliant idea. We’ll call it the Jayseph. They make a mean Americano here and have all sorts of snacks and sandwiches. You really can’t go wrong with their selection of lunch offerings and the staff here are wicked friendly. And, ya know, who doesn’t want to support a local business?! Put your hand down! I really only have two minor complaints about Espresso By Design. One is that the building is a bit hidden behind trees and shrubbery(we want a shrubbery!) and the other is how little space is inside of the joint. There isn’t much room for the few tables and the people using them and for the folks waiting to order their coffee. But these are both pretty minor things since in some weird way they add to the charm of the place. If you find yourself off the beaten path and need caffeine and something to nosh on this place may well save your life… or at least satisfy your needs for caffeine and a snack. I’m a fan!

This place is the bees’ knees. Plural bees. Not just one bee’s knees. At least 11 or 12 bees’ worth. The coffee is delicious, in that unique way that Starbucks doesn’t have(who I DO pledge my consistent love to, ’cause you know… they’re consistent.) The sandwiches have a rotating type of seasoned meat(!) and these sammiches are chock-full of meat and at $ 6+ is a steal. It’s not like getting a sandwich out of the plastic-curtained cooler in some gas station in a small town called Humptulips, where the cut part of the sammy shows the ONLY filling it has. Chocolate bread is killer, the pumpkin butterhorn is DELIGHTFUL. I have not had their soups but they look great too. I love that they have the green Superfood, fresh cut fruit cups, quiches, pudding, cookies, bagels and everything that you wished Starbucks had ;) Staff=friendly as heck. The owner always remembers your name ^_^ and earlier this week, I forgot my water there and he held it for me: complete with my name written on it until the new day. Sweet! Be warned. This place is a little hard to find if you’re not from around G-Town. It kind of appears out of nowhere, like the witch’s house from Hansel and Gretel. And has equally the amount of sweets inside waiting for you. Run if they try to check how fat your finger is ;)

Best Dirty Chai in town! Great service and great coffee! I am addicted to the dirty chai tea and the staff are awesome. Great small selection of fresh soups, salads and sandwiches. The owner is almost always there and working like a mad man. Much respect for such an outstanding independent business. Seattle needs more of them.

Great tucked away hidden gem of a coffee shop! Great flavored espresso from Caffe Vita, sandwiches, soup and salads. Cutest outside garden and the hidden party deck upstairs! Good prices on drinks, know you by name and drink, don’t forget you can buy a pre-paid card of your favorite drink. They hustle like crazy to move the line, Michelle makes Thursdays & Fridays a treat to come in!

They hire and train great people who make a point of remembering your name and order. Michelle, Christy, and Armani are always friendly and do a great job with my coffee orders. It’s a great little oasis in Georgetown and I highly recommend giving them a try. Thursdays and Fridays are the best time to visit.

I love to go here on my day’s off. the employees are awesome. Todd and Michelle. alway’s greet you by name. they know your drink, what you like to eat, and how to prepare it. I love the bagels, salads. and my favorite!!! THETUNASAMMICH! I have tried all the different cheeses,… cheddar, swiss, and provolone. My fav. is the Provolone but they are all equally delicious! The best thing about Espresso by Design is the friendly service. They are quick to greet you with a smile and even when there is a line, it isn’t long before you are helped. Prices are good, and the food is ok, but the Coffee is the best around. It always drives me crazy that they charge extra if you use a credit card, even when you spend more than $ 10. They should just have a minimum to use a card. Best thing about this place? The singing Barista.

I don’t go here as much any more, but used to come about once a week. Tucked away off of the street, this place is a hidden gem with an upper patio great on a sunny day(although small and not kept up well) and a shady garden. Limited seating inside but with great coffee and a decent amount of sugar free flavors — my friend has had their food a lot here and likes it. The service is friendly and even more so when I am with my friend who is a regular. Pretty great for the small operation that they run. Go independent!

*4.5 stars* I really like this place. It is tucked in an industrial area in Georgetown, but has a cute tree lined patio with plenty of outdoor seating. The shop itself is owned by a very nice couple and the wife, Dawn, makes the best tuna ever(5 stars for tuna!!!). Their coffee is delich, and they feature local art from people in the area. I also like that they offer honey by their cream and sugar stand which is something that is all too often left forgotten. Lastly, you can get your Odwalla fix here and pick up some healthy snacks. If you are ever in the Georgetown area, check this place out.

Still my go-to coffee shop. They make great coffee, the staff is super fun and personable and their bagels, soups and salads really hit the spot. This is exactly what a neighborhood shop should be.

Ahhh Seattle and your many little coffee shops that were here long before the big green monster! How I love you! Espresso by Design is located near the Design Center in SoDo. If you’re not in the neighborhood, you’re probably have no business being around here. I did this morning as I was dropping the«Lady K» off at her office. Really great service. I always like when the baristas take a personal interest in what you have going on in your life as well as how you want your drink made. The barista this morning thought we were headed to the airport(not) and then began telling us about how they sell cars from these parking deck structures in Italy as we were telling him about what we do in San Fran. Very random, but oh how nice. Both are drinks were well made with care. The pumpkin scone I had was so good. Much better than what you might have gotten at that big box café. You could tell they were fresh! The other barista behind the counter was making sandwiches to sell that day and they looked great as well. Enjoy!
