I have been going to Mandy for two years and have followed her to her new salon. When I randomly came to Mandy I was a sad, pale brunette with nasty red roots and split ends (ew!). After Mandy fixed my hair, I went out that night and met my future husband (NO JOKE, we’re engaged)! In the last two years, people have told me that I look brighter and happier… I am, but it is also my hair! I really appreciate that Mandy will listen to the details of what I am wanting, but will be honest with me. For example, I decided in my new life that I would like lighter hair and she made this happen with tasteful balyage. She will tell me when I need a haircut even though I want mermaid hair. Attention to detail is SO important! As far as Chroma goes, I really like it there and enjoy the Aveda products! The other employees seem great! :)

This review is for Rebekah (Esthetician). I don’t get my hair cut at this salon, but I keep coming back to Rebekah for my eyebrows – she’s that good. I moved from Wallingford to the CD but Rebekah is worth the drive. Over the nearly two years I’ve been going to see her, I’ve learned that she’s very kind, funny, and great to talk to. As far as my eyebrows, she shapes them perfectly every time! I always look forward to my appointment with Rebekah, not only because I leave with perfect eyebrows, but because I genuinely enjoy the time I spend with her.

First — let me say I love my stylist Lindsay! She gets five stars in my books. However, my last experience there was not what I would have expected from what is thought to be a high end salon. While Lindsay is always professional, not all of the other staff are. Listening to them gossip. swear etc was not my idea of an AVEDA salon. If I didn’t love Lindsay so much, I wouldn’t go back there…

Chroma is my new favorite place to get my hair cut/​colored. My appointment with Lindsay went so well that my only regret is not trying this place sooner! The staff here clearly listen to their clients and make both scheduling and the actual color/​cut an enjoyable, worthwhile experience. The salon itself isn’t fancy, but it is clean and bright. Aveda products are always a plus. After a not-​so-​great appointment at a different salon, I’m so pleased to have my hair back to normal!

I got a terrific haircut — Cerise was great. She enjoyed my hair. She listened to what I wanted, gave suggestions, and did a brilliant job showing off my hair’s strengths. And my husband, who has recently been somewhat rude about my haircuts, loves it, too. Only kvetch is that it’s more expensive than I can pay regularly right now (but comparable to the competition). This one was on my Mom. But I will definitely go back when I can.

Cherise is very professional and did awesome color/​foils. She also gave me a flattering, very easy to style haircut– thanks for getting me my cute back– I’ll see Cherise soon! Also a nice atmosphere in salon

This place is great, and Mandy is AWESOME! I was a new customer and had an appointment with her after work one day. Traffic was bad so I called to say I might be 10 minutes late; she was totally okay with it (I ended up being on time). I had a general vision for what changes I wanted to see with a new haircut, but I was also open to her suggestions. Her knowledge about hair textures, cuts, styling, and products was excellent and her suggestions worked wonderfully. She started by giving me an amazing head massage before the shampoo (which was another great head massage!). She used only a single styling product before round-​brush drying my new cut. All-​in-​all, her service was top-​notch and her friendly disposition was so appreciated. I’ll definitely be back to see her.
As a note, the other stylists in the salon were also really pleasant and helpful while I was there. The space was clean, not cluttered, and bright. The prices were reasonable, too. A great salon in Wallingford — very happy I found them.

I rarely complain about a haircut — I keep my hair long, so you can’t exactly ruin it – but I was a little less than thrilled about my haircut from Chroma. The Aveda products they used on my had a masculine woodsy scent that lasted on my hair after a couple of showers. It was SO musky! When I asked for an «edgier» cut, the stylist (who was very nice) didn’t really understand what I wanted. To clarify, I said, that I wanted more dramatic layers, and she said «I don’t think that will look good,» and proceeded to give me gently angled ends (i.e. young soccer mom hair, which would be totally fine if that wasn’t the exact opposite of what I asked for) followed by a rather voluminous 1990s style blowdry.
The next hairstylist I went to (at a salon in downtown Seattle) knew exactly what I meant and gave me the cut I was looking for, so I know I’m not the crazy one! It’s really too bad that the place didn’t work out for me, because they’re in a great location with easy parking, and their prices are reasonable.

Michelle has been my stylist for about 4 years, since she was 28. She’s a perfectionist and always makes my hair look beautiful. Unfortunately, she got extremely sick, almost lost her life, and has not been to work since the end of Sept 2013. This is a long overdue review, but she really deserves a good review. I have been going to a different stylist temporarily who is only okay for me, but I feel like Michelle can read what I want like a book. I saw that someone wrote a bad review on her, and found it pretty upsetting. I’m still in contact with her, and that person didn’t even have to pay, Michelle actually apologized multiple times at the register, and the review was exaggerated. She doesn’t lie about those kinds of things, because she has better things to do. Also, the girl was really young, possibly a teenager. Her clientele is usually young professionals and older. I just wanted to stand up for her because she has been through a lot in life and only has a brother… no parents. She is a hard worker and doesn’t do bad things to people… a very caring person and hard worker. I highly recommend her if you want to go to a perfectionist. She will be back to work PT soon, and I’m happy to hear that she’s well enough to go back!

This place is awesome. One of the things that I dread most about getting my monthly haircut is having to face the awkward interaction with the stylist. Holland was great! He immediately made me feel like we were already friends. Great conversation and nothing felt awkward. Not to mention my hair looked GREAT! One of the best haircuts I’ve ever had. I will recommend this salon and stylist to all of my friends. The salon was very clean and the atmosphere was amazing. Overall one of the best experiences I’ve ever had while searching for the right salon and perfect stylist

It is hard to go wrong at an Aveda salon. The stylists are always top-​notch, and the salons always contain a refreshing vibe. Chroma is an excellent example of a top-​quality Aveda salon, and Holland is an excellent Aveda stylist. He did a great job on my hair. I would recommend this place and Holland to everyone.

Mandy is the curly girls BFF! I love my long curly locks! She colors, she tames and she trains my hair — she is a Curly Girls personal savior!

A great salon. Lindsay did a fabulous job with my cut and partial highlight. She listened to my needs, was very sweet, and asked me lots of questions to get styling perfect. Also a great atmosphere, very chill and relaxed. Would definitely visit this place again!

Chroma Salon in Wallingford has that mellow good vibe blended with upscale and skilled professionals that I feel every Aveda salon strives for.
It was such a refreshing change from some of the other local Aveda salons I have tried throughout the years.
Mandy, one of the many master stylists is a must see. That is, if you want to feel listened to, get an experienced opinion and walk out feeling great!

My mom and I Just love Mandy! She has been cutting our hair for a couple years now and she always does a great job! My mom has pretty fine slightly wavy hair, which is adorable but sometimes hard for stylists to cut, Mandy does a great job shaping it so that is grows out very nicely. She is always thoughtful and really listens to her clients. She has tons of experience, and such a sweet and fun attitude. If you need a great hair cut and want to have lots of fun while doing it definitely go see Many at Chroma on Wallingford!

I decided to get a much-​needed haircut and I couldn’t be happier with the results. My stylist, Mandy, was awesome! She listened attentively as we went over what I wanted and then she went to work. The service came with a relaxing head massage (I loved that!), shampoo, cut and style. My hair feels healthy again and I love the cut.
Definitely coming back to Mandy!

Unfortunately I had a horrible experience at this salon. The salon itself is very nice looking and they use Aveda products so I was excited to try this place out. I came in for the first time and was told Michelle would be my hairdresser. When I met her she was very pleasant and nice but asked me over 5 times ” .so how do you want your hair cut again?” This scared me, she didn’t listen very well. All I wanted was a trim. I have straight across bangs and only wanted them trimmed a small amount. She repeatedly asked me how I wanted my bangs cut, my final words were «just as long as you don’t cut them above my brows, they’ll be fine» she immediately cut them far above my brows. (See picture) I was in shock and actually burst into tears when I saw my bangs, I asked her multiple times why she did that and I got nothing back from her expect a very quiet «sorry»… She turned me away from the mirror and continued cutting my hair as I cried in the chair, never stopping to ask if I was okay or making a plan to see how we could fix the situation, the owner walked by repeatedly and looked at me and never asked me if I was ok. Not a word was said to me. When she finished my hair it was frizzy and unstyled and my bangs were far above my brows and uneven. No product was ever put into my hair. I actually asked if I could please see the flat iron and some hair oil and proceeded to style my own hair b/​c I could not leave looking that way. I tried my hardest to be polite to Michelle and not make her feel any worse, but I was in complete shock at the entire situation and couldn’t help but cry when I saw what she did to my bangs. The owner watched the whole thing and never stepped in. As I went to the counter to pay, the owner finally addressed the situation and did not ask for payment, he offered to have me return to fix my bangs w/​a more experienced stylist. I declined b/​c I knew there was no way to add the inches that she took off back on, only time could do that. I’m sure this is a great salon and that this is an isolated incident but I would never recommend anyone to see Michelle at the Wallingford location and I would recommend to Chroma salon, that if in the future something like this happens again, take the time to put your client at ease and fix the situation before proceeding.

I’ve been seeing Cerise at Chroma in Wallingford for two years now.
She’s the BEST! The cut, the color is always fabulous. She is constantly learning new techniques and keeps my look «fresh». As a woman of «a certain age» I appreciate her extra attention. The salon itself is always a welcome haven in my busy day.

Awesome salon! Finally found a cute and convenient place with someone who knows how to cut my hair. Ask for Michelle! I’ve got fine/​straight hair and she knows how to cut with precision for an even, lightly layered, easy-​to-​grow-​out look.
