Since my last review, they now accept credit cards. So for that, they get an additional star. I’ll even tack a half-star for broadening their menu. But they still fall short by about«two stars» because they ONLY serve varieties of their hot sauces.

Glad this place is closed. When I went there last it was horrible, greasy, fatty. The only flavor this chicken has is hot and spicy. No chicken taste at all, they must buy the cheapest, lowest-quality meat in the U.S. How this chain stays in business I’ll never know. I guess college students will eat anything, including this slop. It is also so loud in here that I could barely hear my own thoughts. Ear ringing levels. Nothing redeeming here. Please move on. Maybe Poyeyes or KFC. Just go to the store and buy some GOOD hot sauce, pick up a bucket of more healthy parts and slather that over it. Much better for you. Well maybe not but at least you will taste something resembling chicken. I hope they ALL close down.

I enjoyed this place more when it was called«Cluck U.» The food tasted a little better and well, the name was a lot cooler. I have no idea why the name change came about. Regardless, this place does serve up some pretty good chicken wings. Ironically, as good at the wings can be, I always end up ordering the«Devil Tenders.» They have different levels of heat for your chicken to be smothered in. For those that love their food mild, that can be done. And if you want to be a dragon, and blow fire(out of your ass) all day, they have that option as well. I tend to enjoy spicy food, but it seems the spicier I go here, the more my stomach hurts after. I eat spicy food elsewhere and it does not do that to me. I am not sure if’s how the chicken is cooked or how the sauces are prepared. A good side dish are the cheese curly fries. Wow. A block of cheese over greasy, spicy curly fries. Sometimes, happiness can be found in the simplest of foods. This place also offers up good beer prices on their«gallon» of beer option. The SCU kids must love that. Anyway, if you want a good place to eat some wings(or tenders), drink beer, and watch a game with some friends, University Chicken is always a good option.

Two words: 911 Challenge. Ironic since this is my 911th review! *EDITNOTE* Since the a certain other establishment demanded that my review be removed, my number is off. This is now #910! UGH! This is the place to bring the burly men and watch them cry. The sauces are okay, typical buffalo wing flavors. You get a variety of different sauces to choose from. Make sure you have your Pepto Bismol ready to chug when you get home. They have deboned versions for the lazy. It’s your typical sports bar with fried food that your cardiologist wants you to avoid! #910

My boyfriend and I drive 40 minutes to get here, probably once a month. We love it! Hot wings + beer + good company = LOVE For the wings, we generally go for Nuclear with a side of Traditional Death sauce. It is really spicy(I LOVESPICY!) but very flavorful at the same time. The wings here are different from your typical buffalo wings — I’d say a little heavier on the tomato than usual — which is what I like. We also like the Chicken Tenders. We get them without sauce and dip them in Traditional Death sauce. The tenders are crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside — and huge! I also recommend the cheese fries. They are surely not your gourmet french fries, definitely not fresh, and quite greasy — but something about them makes them delicious. Eat the fries immediately before the cheese hardens! They remodeled the inside since renaming the place from University Chicken to Smoke Eaters but it is still pretty ghetto. I recently saw a bunch of wannabe gangster kids break out into a fight right outside. I think the cashier called the cops. I found it amusing.

I’ve been coming to this place since it was called Cluck U, and now its been renamed again, but the place is mostly the same. I think its less dark and shady looking than it used to be, but its still got the same clientele(mostly guys) testing to see just how much chicken then can eat, and just how spicy they can handle it. Their chicken strips are good, and their hot sauces are definitely worth trying, especially if you’re brave and don’t like your stomach. For those who are truly fearless, there’s the 911 challenge(just ask them about it). I recently saw someone attempting to do it, and it really is a disgusting sight.

Chicken and Beer. OHYEA. They have specials for chicken on Tuesdays and Thursdays. What’s great is that you can choose your level of spice. From traditional to atomic to 911. If you’re up to it, you can partake in the 911 challenge– chowing down on some chicken, smothered with their hottest spice, all within in a matter of minutes. Since I’ve been here, I’ve always ordered the devil or chicken bites; along with a cup of beer, they’ve always hit the spot. It’s also a convenient place to root for your favorite local sports team. They have t.v. sets for all different games. So if you’re in the mood for some chicken, beer and sports, this is the place. SADDLEUP!

I don’t think I’ve ever found another place quite like this one. First its difficult to make really good chicken this way. Most places with chicken like this end up making the chicken dry and not so tasty. This place, however, has the most tender chicken breast pieces I’ve ever had. Granted, their wings are sub-par although many people disagree, but their sauces and the flavors of their various spicy sauces are absolutely delicious. My favorite is atomic or nuclear depending on how spicy I’m feeling that day. It’s very much a beer/pub environment that serves food with a sports bar atmosphere and lots of college students. Definitely a great place to pick up some food but beware … it’s CASHONLY!

To think of it, I haven’t been back here in awhile! I love chicken wings. I love eating them. The ones here are definitely covered with sauce. I love it. juicy and tender wings. Perfect for sports pub with wings/beer/tvs and to just chill with the homies. The highest level That i achieved here was the 3rd to highest and I thought those were pretty DARNSPICY. i had to drink water with every bite i took. my mouth was on FIAAAA already!!! Advice: Just keep eating so you won’t notice the burnn. when you stop and drink water. that is when it hits! AIYAHH!!!

Okay, so I came here to eat one day when it was busy and I couldn’t get access to one of their little game terminals, and it was horrible! I was forced to watch frat boys guzzle beer, and when that got boring, I was staring at the TV screens playing sports that I know nothing about. When the food got to me, I concentrated on it and it tasted horrible as well. Their ranch isn’t very good and neither are their wings :( The salad is uninspired and tastes yucky with their bland ranch dressing. Their smashed potatoes are the best item IMO, but they still aren’t anything to write home about. Their nachos are made with shredded cheese, what an abomination!!!

I can’t remember the first time I went to Cluck U, but the chicken is definitely memorable. They were actually on the Food Network for their 911 challenge. Basically, they challenge you to eat a batch of their spiciest chicken without anything to drink. Sounds easy you say? Hah! Methinks not! I watched a group of teen boys try to eat one each, without success. You could smell the heat from where I was sitting. One whiff can get your eyes to watering. After taking a bite, one particularly skinny teen had to run next door for a jug of milk. Being the weakling that I am. I only go up to Atomic. This place is definitely one of my yummy fatty places to go.

Cute but unoriginal concept with the spicy wing sauce levels and the 911 challenge. I don’t recommend their quesadillas, or probably anything else that isn’t the chicken wings. Head over to the taco bell or subway next door if you’re not in the mood for the wings that your buddies want. Better quality and price. I learned that the hard way. Cheap arcade-like games are setup for game play at 25 cents each. That’s aiight. I REALLYWISHTHEYWOULDSTOPCHANGINGTHEIRNAME. I don’t really care what it is, but it is super confusing for customers when it keeps switching up!

University Chicken is officially Smoke Eaters now, not sure why the Unilocal listing hasn’t changed, I’m guessing new management? I still prefer the name Cluck-U back in the day and haven’t seen the need to change their name for a second time, oh well. So what’s new? Same food, same place, same interior. I think the only visible change is that the menu board has been revamped to look less ghetto and more stylish and that their outside sign has changed to reflect their new name(obviously), oh and the family dinner party platter is $ 2 more expensive now. Besides the obvious sign changes, the food is exactly the same and served in the usual flimsy paper trays. They’ve also added a new fountain soda machine so you no longer have to use the clumsy water dispenser for refills. I hated that water dispenser with a passion, it was painfully agonizing to watch the water drip out it slowly while my mouth was on fire. Came here this past Thursday and was pleased to find out they still have their weekly specials on specific days, Thursday being my favorite since I prefer their tenders over wings. After coming here for over 5 years the food has finally wore on me since it’s the same ol’, guess it’s finally time to up my level of spiciness and burn.

I had 10 atomic level chicken wings, as well as a California sandwich. — the sandwich was alright, but the wings are pretty Awesome! other than the fact the wings were drowning in the sauce, the taste and the crispy fried skins underneath are just right! I will definitely go back for more, maybe try the devil tenders next time? a level of spiciness up?(btw, my lips were burning after the meal, but my stomach didn’t hurt).

I had mix feelings about this place. I still feel the same way. Chicken didn’t taste that great. I’m not much of a hot wings kind of gal… I was disappointed that the quality of the chicken was not moist or tender. The sauce was sweet like honey not spicy as I thought. Maybe I came here on a bad day, so I’m going to try to give this place another«wing» at it. Here’s the HAPPYHOURINFO: all locations When: Daily Happy Hour $ 4 domestic beers 4pm-6pm Mondays: $ 2 Pints $ 1 Domestic Pints 9pm-11pm Wednesdays: $ 6 Widmer (you get to keep the glass) $ 5 re-fills Food Menu: Tuesdays are winger nights 6pm-9pm Thursdays are bite nights 6pm-8pm

I’m already craving some more wings just thinking about this place. Alright – so It’s not exactly what you expect when you visualize it for te first time. At least it wasn’t what I expected. I think I expected it to be a lot nicer, and a lot more easy to find. Anyways. I was glad it’s as casual as it is because I don’t think I could have handled waiting to be seated or any of the that crap. Anyways – I love wings. Absolutely love. so I was amazed to finally get into this place when I went. I stuck to traditional and tried one of my friends Atomic wings. I like traditional the best. I don’t know if I’ll ever try the hotter stuff, but I hope to work my way up.

I stopped by University Chicken on a Tuesday night after the Unilocal Elite event at Strike. The drive to Cupertino took about an hour and a half and during the trip my roommate Raleigh told me about a place to pig out on drunk eats called Cluck U. He described hot sauce covered chicken tenders with tiered levels of spicy hot sauce. I resolved to try these chicken tenders out after hearing such accolades, and I was not disappointed. I tried the devil tenders recommended by Raleigh(chicken tenders covered in hot sauce). I got to try the Traditional and Atomic sauces both were good. The traditional had a strong chili and vinegary taste to it, inhaling the steam coming off the chicken tenders was enough to make me cough. But the spiciness level was actually not bad at all. The atomic is more spicy but it is sweeter and tasted a little bit more like BBQ sauce than hot wing sauce. I’m happy I tried the devil tenders, and hope to be back soon.

Fun environment with good fried chicken. The fried chicken was very juicy :) but I wouldn’t repeat on the fries. It was soft and tasteless. :( Sports bar environment was fun. Random games around the store, pictures of people that passed the 911 challenge, paintings showing Kernel Sanders waiting in line, juke box, etc. I say give it a shot for the chicken.

I’m a glutton for punishment. Taste bud desensitizing, tongue numbing, eye watering, punishment. Because Traditional Death is still enjoyable, Thermo Nuclear is amusing, but Global Thermo Nuclear is the watermark…(who the heck set the watermark so high?!). Punishment. This location gets insanely busy almost immediately at 11:30 am for lunch on weekdays. And since food is pretty much cooked-to-order, any number of customers in front of you equates to a long wait, so get there early. I appreciate this location for retaining its grassroots college-hangout feel, though it’s the same reason I don’t frequent it outside of weekday lunchtimes.

Cool place to hang since they have sports going on the back large screen. Thier are about the same number of seats here compared to the downtown San Jose location, but on a Monday, it seemed a little dead(I usually go to SJ on Tuesdays). I had my usual breast bites and they were good and moist as usual. I’m pretty sure the rest of the food will be as just as good! Its located next to Taco bell in the Safeway plaza.
