Rubbish place… Tried to order veggie delite… the server — Asian male, did not put enough veggies, even after telling him. Later they did not have spinach as topping. I requested to add something else instead then the guy threw my sub and told k we will not serve you. FYI Subway promotes«Fresh & unlimited toppings»…will never go & suggest anyone

I am a 3 – 4 days-a-week subway kind of person. And this is by far the worst example of a Subway that I have come across in all these years! I came across some really bad reviews of this place — especially about the owner being a jerk. After my recent experience, I could not agree more with that! I saw him skimping on vegetables and using the bottom slices of the tomatoes and asked for some extra only to be told that I was not«allowed» that. He almost went on to suggest that I had committed blasphemy by requesting spinach in addition to lettuce on my sandwich when paying only 6 bucks for it. When told that this was the exact order I got every single time from Subways all over town, he ended by telling me to «go somewhere else next time and no come back… I remember your face». To summarize the sandwich/service you can expect here: Stingy with the veggies but very generous with the rudeness and insults! If you are looking for a Subway in San Mateo, the one on El Camino and 21st is way nicer(plus they are open longer hours as well).

Looks like a husband/wife combo now running this franchise. He was very fast getting my Saturday $ 6 special done. Problem was no apple chips available, so settled for chips. U can also get a cookie. Even tho I paid for street parking and could have gone to a shopping center, with free parking, I wanted to sit by the storefront window and people watch. Also, this store is across from some interesting looking eateries too. Glad to see this team here. I’ll be back from time to time. Comcast/Xfinity Wi-Fi runs 72 Mbps down and 6 uo.

I drove out of my way and it’s closed at 755pm even though posted hours say 9pm. Staff was still inside but gave the universal closed sign to myself and others trying the door in vain. Very disappointing. I see why this place gets such a bad reviews. I feel sorry for the owner. Good staff is hard to find.

Horrible subway. They skimp on veggies and even hide some standard veggies like spinach in a back fridge. They must think if the customer don’t see it displayed on the front counter, maybe they won’t order it? Not surprised the ratings are so low for this Subway

8:45 pm after preparing sandwich half heartedly, I was told i can’t get a sandwich to eat-in because they have to do paperwork. I wonder if Subway franchise is even taking a note of all these reviews?

If I could rate this subway a zero I would in a heartbeat. I ordered 4 sandwiches and on my last one I asked for extra bell peppers and the owner refused. He then told me he can tell I am not from here which was rude and made me feel very discriminated against. I continued to ask for more bell peppers as 6 slices is not enough for me. He refused, threw his arms in the air and said he hasn’t seen someone ask for extra bell peppers before. I responded with, «well I have never had an issue with extra bell peppers before». He packed up my sandwich without asking if I wanted salt vinegar pepper or anything else and started ringing me up. My total was around $ 26 and when I asked how it came up to that much he said I need to open my eyes and look at the prices before I order. Corporate needs to come here and regulate this subway as I will never be returning here again, let alone another subway in the area.

Awful. I came here at 9pm on Saturday and they were closed… There was their hours sign on the door and according to it they should close at 10 pm. No note on the door, no anything else. They just closed up am hour early for no reason. Google maps and Unilocal both said they’re open… Bad business practice.

Come on guys this place is pretty good Stopped by today for the first time. Even though it was 10 min before closing they still took my order – the staff there are pretty friendly! Everything else is pretty much what you’d expect – the same menu options you’d find at other subways, at the same price, with the same quality. Overall, if you’re looking for a subways sandwich, definitely stop by!

Generally Subway is consistent in its middle of the roadness. But when you offer to toast a sandwich and its lukewarm. Thats a fail. Just wanted a hot Italian deli meats sando!

Well, firstly I’m really surprised with the people complaining about the bad reviews… yet they only give three stars. Maybe you experienced nice workers and they gave you a good amount but that is not the experience I had. I’ve been to this subway several times as I live just a couple blocks away so it’s the most convenient location and the workers are usually pretty nice; however, I was not pleased with yesterdays experience. The woman who was working couldn’t speak english, which usually isn’t a problem for me as long as they know enough to get my order that’s all that really matters right? Well she was having a pretty difficult time… I had to repeat myself & point to what I wanted several times. When I asked for lettuce, she didn’t even put on a handful– it was enough to cover all the bread, I had to ask twice for her to put more before there was a sufficient amount. Normally I order with extra lettuce(so it’s like I have a salad on bread) but I decided it wasn’t worth the hassle. Then I ask for olives and get about 5 olive slices on the entire footlong– another thing I usually order extra of– and I had to ask about 4 more times for more. Depending on who’s working this subway can be alright; however, they’re always stingy which is frustrating. Nothing compares to the kind & generous workers at the one in redwood city on el camino/woodside rd. but they can’t all be perfect.

I eat there a frequently and like it. It’s not a lot of meat, but it’s fresh, clean, and fast. You can order double the meat, but at double the calories.

Hey, what’s with all the bad reviews? Okay, maybe they skimp on the items, but since this place is convenient and the employees are friendly, I’m giving this place 3 stars. They actually listen to me when I say light on the mayo so that’s definitely a good thing. Also, their store is very clean and they have a good amount of tables to sit at. Subway makes diets taste better!

I haven’t eaten at a Subways in a while but I was willing to give it a try today when I saw a $ 2 promotion for a 6″ meatball. So I decided to stop by for a footlong. When they rang me up for full price and mentioned the deal, the cashier was like the deal is only for 6″. Hmmmm. footlong is 12″ right? Can I get some common sense on the side? The extra money didn’t piss me off as much as their attitude of not giving a crap about their customers. I don’t recommend this location.

Extremely stingy on the ingredients. I eat at Subway all the time and I always get the same thing, foot long black forest ham on wheat, not toasted, with just mustard, tomatoes, and lots of olives. No lettuce, no pickles, nothing else, just mustard tomatoes, and olives. I’m used to seeing how they make it and can actually count the pieces that go into the sandwich. I go into this Subway shop and order the same thing. Instead of giving me 5 slices of tomato they give me 4, no big thing. My issue is with the amount of olives they put on. They literally put 6 slices of olives and when I asked for more they grudgingly put them on. I paid, they threw out the receipt, and when I asked for the receipt they had to pull it out of the trash. To my amazement they had charged me $.50 for the lack of olives that they called extra. I protested and they said that the way they run their Subway shop is different from all the other Subways. Subway as a whole is great but not this Subway.

I’m shocked at the bad reviews! I had some of the friendliest service I have ever had at a Subway, anywhere! The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars was the fact they don’t carry spinach. I recently moved from Oregon where spinach seemed ubiquitous at Subways, but I’ve yet to find it in the bay… the search continues

I was walking home the other day and decided to stop in to try a breakfast sandwich. I walk in(only one in the store!!) and i am ignored by the employee for a good 2 minutes. Seriously he’s standing right in front of me! No eye contact or hello or «be right with you». He just kept putting the bread pans in the oven. Also I asked if I could get my english muffin toasted before he puts on the egg and he said that he couldn’t do that because they can only toast after the stuff is on the muffin. Seriously? He did let me substitute onions for 1 measly tomato. I’ll be sticking to the Subway on 4th!

Soggy sandwiches and a guy behind the counter who I thought was dead, what more do I need to say. O yeah, skimped me out of chips.

Wow, I’m really surprised about all the bad reviews for this place. When I came here with my boyfriend, I thought the service was great. We were the only customers, so we probably got better service.lol. I decided to order the footlong ham sandwich on a honey oat bread($ 5). The server actually put a lot of ham in my sandwich! I liked how she asked if I wanted any condiments before squirting it on my sandwich. =) For the veggies, I decided to add lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, banana peppers, and green bell peppers. I think the server was pretty generous with the veggie portions, too. When I ate the sandwich, the bread was really fresh. The sandwich tasted great, too! I’m glad there is a Subway in downtown San mateo!
