Came in for the free burrito and was pretty excited but the food this time was honestly just not up to par. The steak was really hard and was barely warm. But hey at least free

I like Chipoltle in general and I feel like they are getting a bad rap with everything in the news lately but it seems their customer service and portion size has went down recently. I had to order extra meat on my carnitas bowls just make it seem full. They only filled it half way and when I pointed at the meat asking to add more, the kid behind the counter snapped, telling me to stay behind the glass. I felt like walking out right then. So basically I am trying to be loyal and I keep coming in but I think this will be the last trip to this location.

We came in here, because it was the only place open with decent AC during a scorcher of a day. I’ve only been to Chipotle twice and both times, it seems the employees are rather stingy with the meats. Probably a good thing after the recent health scare, but I digress. Food is what you expect. It’s a chain. You aren’t going to have an out of this world burrito bowl from one location and a pile of shit at the other. It’s just not going to happen. There were a few tables open and we were able to snag one, but of course, the tabletop was sticky and not very clean. A handful of napkins and a quick brushing of everything onto the floor and no more issues. I should’ve appreciated how small of a mess that was, because when I went over to the drink station to get waters, my god! The floor was stickier than you could imagine. Utterly disgusting. If you must eat here, please be advised that wearing plastic bags over your shoes is the wise thing to do. Actually, double bag them.

Been here so many times… consistently average to good Chipotle food. Always thought their service lacked. Today was such a different experience. Ordered my usual order. 2 vege burritos with white rice, black beans, fajita veges. Then I switch it up… one with mild and hot salsa. The other with mild and medium salsa. Ah, right then. .my burrito guy put mild and hot in both. I saw, gasped, and said oh. no. He acknowledged right away. Offered to fix it. But I’m not really into throwing away food. So I said, no worries, he(my husband) will survive the hot salsa. My burrito guy offered yet again to start over. I said, no, he(my husband) will survive. So then this really nice and also very professional yet friendly lady rings me up. Told her I got two vege burritos and she said that since they screwed up on one, they would only charge me for one burrito. So then, I apologized, because I didn’t mean to get free food and truly my husband will not die from eating hot salsa. Then she insisted. I paid for only one burrito, had an amazing experience and learned from these two professionals how to make every encounter count.

THEWORSTCHIPOTLE I’VEEVERBEEN This location totally deserve 1 or less stars if that were possible 1) staff is totally unfriendly, I was siting eating my burrito and a guy just literally start to sweep under my table touching my feet(the rest of the tables were mostly empty and also needed a sweep), he moved the chairs around me to keep sweeping until I said«Can you just wait until I finish? This is uncomfortable…» He didn’t seem to care that much and replied«you don’t have to move» and left without even an apologize 2) the AC was insanely cold 3) Bathroom toilet flush wasn’t working, and also dirty(see pictures)…

Yesterday for dinner, I came and picked up a burrito bowl(steak) and a burrito(half steak half chicken) and a side of chips and guac for take out. When I got home we started to enjoy our meal. But then in the container of guac, there was this grey colored large meaty piece of something mixed in our guac. It was so disgusting looking we could not finish the guac. It immediately turned us off and we were also putting the guac on our food(bowl and burrito) that we lost our appetite for that too. We continue to eat our chips, until I found a black hair in our chips. Our meal was completely ruined and we had no desire to drive all the way back and make a complaint. I did take photos of both items. I am extremely upset about this since we do go to this chipotle. I have had poor experience with this location(twice they were out of fajita veggies and it was over an hour away from closing, and once out of brown rice on one of those same days). Unfortunately this is the closest location to us. I am extremely upset and disgusted by yesterday’s incident. I contacted the company via email and hope to hear back from them soon.

I’m not sure if this specific location has improved dramatically these last few months, but I did not experience any of the issues that other Unilocal reviewers noted. There was pretty much no line when I went there this past Monday at around 7pm. I walked there, so I didn’t experience any of the parking issues stated in other reviews. It is true that it is difficult to find parking in downtown San Mateo in general. I’d recommend parking in the nearby residential streets and just walking to chipotle. I ordered two chicken burrito bowls. Both were filled with lots of toppings and I experienced great customer service. The chicken was fresh and everything tasted great. I’ve had chipotle before and this was on par with my other positive experiences with this chain.

I am an avid chipotle customer, probably about 4 times a week, last night I went to his chipotle and the cashier was extremely rude and combative. I will never ever step foot in this chipotle again. Which is unfortunate being that’s it’s the closest one to my house.

The location was where I had my first experience with the Chipotle chain. I appreciate the no growth hormone in their meat. Thank you. But this location did give me a bad taste, figuratively and literally, that almost made me not step into another Chipotle again. Parking is as what you can expect from downtown San Mateo-difficult. I ordered a steak rice bowl. The bowl was just half full. I finished it within two minutes and was like, «I paid over 10 dollars for fast food and still leaving hungry?» I walked over to Ben Tre afterwards and ate a huge bowl of noodles afterwards. The sour cream and guacamole were also freezing cold. With the brown rice and steak being lukewarm, I was basically eating a cold dish when everything was mixed up. Giving Chipotle the benefit of the doubt, I went to the San Mateo location next to Whole Foods ordering a burrito. The guy that sat next to me ordered the exact same steak rice bowl I ordered the day before at this location. What a difference! His bowl was actually filled to the top! That’s when I knew this downtown location is truly stingy with their portions. Shame on the staff. If I ever step into a Chipotle again, it would definitely not be into this one.

Gave these guys yet another shot today, and had the«Quesorito» off the secret menu. It was definitely on point and the best one I’ve had yeti! Since my last review the changes here have been drastic! The place is not a mess, the line(if any) is efficient and the sense of urgency has definitely improved and was felt. There were two things that were disappointing. 1. Out of Chips. How can this happen? You gotta be able to order extra in order to meet the demand. Just saying, but anyway these things happen.(Subtract half a star) 2. The Person Cleaning. She did a great job cleaning. So what’s the problem you might ask? She bumped my table, and chair in order to clean the area that I was STILL using to eat. Then she slammed the the chair back into place(which slammed into my table). Having a bad day? Anyway I understand. So I’ll only deduct half a star for that one also instead of one. Overall I am very happy with the significant improvements here since my last review. Keep up the good work, and who knows… perhaps 5 stars some day? Perhaps. I hope this helps, God Bless. ~Da Critic

I read the Unilocal reviews about how bad this chipotle was. Should have listened!!! I was off a two hour training session, needed to refuel and I was looking forward to my chicken bowl. This place failed me big time. No salsa or guacamole… I know the workers were too lazy to make some. How can you be out of those! I’m gonna call the general manager tomorrow. Never going back

One of the larger Chipotle locations. Nothing special about this one, just solid Chipotle when you’re in the mood. Warning: San Mateo parking can be a nightmare so plan for at least 10 – 15 minutes of trying to find parking.

It’s so ridiculous that $ 100s are not accepted and they can’t put a sign before ordering but until you get to the cash register. Had to waste unnecessary cash at a nearby liquor store to get change. I wouldn’t expect this bullshit from chipotle

Worst chipotle ever! Don’t go here for dinner, the staff is slacking off all the time. They always run out of one or two ingredients and they don’t make the slightest effort to refill them. If they are going to refill in a few minutes, they don’t even tell you to wait — they just say, yeah we are out of that. Don’t go here during non-lunch hours, or weekends either … same horrible service.

This Chipotle is the worst. I ordered a 12 person order via fax then called and confirmed it. 30% of the orders were wrong when we ate. Parking is hard to come by– as it is street with meters. The employees did not greet and were not friendly. They also did not give me any utensils. There are other Chiptoles in the area if you need it but do not do a group order from here! Hiss!

Came here on a Monday night, a little after 5PM. There was only one man ahead of me, a few people eating solo — so not busy. The man in front of me ended up leaving because they were out of chicken. Oh this man is a genius! Read on to find out why. I place my order, wait a few minutes for the steak to come out and and they continue to make my two dishes. It’s to the end of the condiments line I get and they are out of guac. «It’ll be 10 minutes» the nice guy says as I agree to wait. He says he will redo my food, to which I object, but he insists, and tosses both dishes out, offering me a free soda while I wait. I accept the soda to which I unpleasantly find there is no ice. Whatever, semi-cold diet coke it is. I sit to wait, put a post on Instagram… return emails… etc. The nice guy has disappeared. In fact there’s no one at the front… I check my phone again and find my Instagram post was 22 minutes old. I left. The man in front of me was smart by leaving right away. I wonder why at 5pm, near the dinner rush, they have food that is out of stock. I wonder where the heck the manager is. This Chipotle is an embarrassment. If I were the owner I would fire the kids here that just walk around and do nothing. This is the last time I will go here even though it is the nearest Chipotle to my home and work. The reason why I will not give this place another shot is because the last time I was here they too were out of guac. I don’t understand what the guac situation is. XO.

John C. Maxwell said: «Talent is a gift, but character is a choice.» While Chipotle has every ingredient to be a successful food chain, San Mateo location proves otherwise. I came by on my lunch break, about 12:15pm on a sunny Wednesday afternoon for a speedy quality lunch. The restaurant looked empty, comparing to other locations in similar time period and I’ve wondered why. Well, now I know! There was a line next to the register and nice gentlemen told me to go ahead and order. However, the protein I was aiming for wasn’t available. As one of the staff members told me «too many people were ordering chicken» and they’ve run out. A new portion of chicken is cooking now and will be available shortly, he added. Surprised, I’ve ended up waiting around 10 minutes. Then, finally, things moved faster. In fact, they were moving too fast. The guy behind the counter had no patience or ability to hear my simple replies to questions: «Black or Pinto beans?» May be it was an attitude for me asking too many questions about the chicken timing earlier. On the other hand, the music in this location is too loud, and with a sizzling hot platter behind you, it is kind of hard to hear a simple answer«Pinto please.» I had a feeling I was pushed down fast service pipeline with no respect to choices I’ve made. Yes, it took me a couple of seconds to decide whether to add Guacamole to my ‘For Here Bowl.’ Although, considering I waited for cooks to produce a protein on the menu in a timely manner, I highly doubt my thought process was inappropriately long. The Guacamole was too chunky, featuring solid quarters of avocados. Bowl wasn’t too good either. Might it be a psychological effect caused by challenged service? I think it may. Character is a choice indeed, and I probably will stick to other Chipotle locations better. Bön Appetite!

Highly surprised by the poor reviews of this place… I have a top three Chipotle locations and this is one of the top(and I’m not the only one who feels this way about this particular location). I find the staff friendly, generous when making your dish, and they offer beer and margarita if you’re so inclined. That’s my two cents for this place. Never dirty or neglected, lots of seating area and a natural light.
