DON’T GETROBBED!!! We rented a 10×10 unit on Monday. On Tuesday evening we took a bunch of stuff to storage. On Thursday night we went back to find that all our containers and boxes had been opened and the most valuable things were ALLSTOLEN. We loaded as much as we could back into our car, got out before the gates locked at 9PM, and called the cops. We couldn’t get a hold of anyone from Public Storage. The San Jose Police Department took almost an hour to arrive, and they couldn’t get a hold of the owner or anyone who could help us, either. They questioned a woman we had seen on site, and she claimed to know the owner… but the cops never let me talk to her and let her leave. About a half hour later, they told me that they weren’t able to get a hold of anyone and that I should just take my stuff home and come back first thing in the morning to get the rest of what’s left. Yes, you must buy the Public Storage official lock and insurance in order to rent there, but that will not stop someone from coming along and breaking the lock mechanism. The lock is still fine, but the mechanism slides in and out with the lock on it so that the unit still looks locked. I will update this review as we get this situation handled, but I can say now that I should have listened to others and NEVER rented a storage unit at Public Storage on the east side of San Jose. Last time we needed storage, I used Zavala’s and got a unit that could only be accessed from indoors. I SOOOOOOO wish I had just gone back to Zavala’s, but I fell for the $ 1 first month’s rent and lost thousands of dollars worth of irreplaceable items!

When I was transitioning between LA and the Bay Area I needed a place to store the abundance of crap I seem to have collected over the years and since this place was the closest to my parents house I decided to use it. The great thing about Public Storage is that they sometimes have this $ 1 deal where you get to rent a storage unit for $ 1 for the first month, but of course there are some start up fees involved so overall it becomes $ 23 or something along those lines, still not bad. But monthly fees tend to be very comparable to other storage places available. Many units and sizes available. I love the ease of the online system which you can book the unit before you get there so you can see if they have the size you need. Usually there is a unit for every budget. Only major con… shit gets SUPERSUPER dusty if its in there for more than a couple of weeks. Other than that, you can have auto payments deducted so you don’t have to keep going back to pay each month and the staff are friendly.
