Super cute local, super friendly and talented hair dresser (Mallory). Mallory cut off about 6 inches from my long hair and gave me the cutest short do, just like I had wanted. Will definitely be back!

I came across Headcase on Unilocal and decided to go there to see if they could fix my hair (I had JUST gotten it cut elsewhere, and this other salon COMPLETELY botched it up. They just cut straight across and didn’t texture it to make it look natural. And the bangs were blunt and ugly. They were awful!).
Kaitlyn, one of the stylists, was so sweet and I don’t know what kind of magic she did on it, but she was able to fix my hair!!! She textured the blunt areas and it looks completely natural now. The bangs are blended in and frame my face, too. It was exactly what I wanted. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I like them a lot. Nice staff. They just charge a bit too much in my opinion. My hair for cut a bit shorter than expected when I was there last. A bit of an adjustment. But a good salon overall.

I had a hair cut appointment with Audrey and she was amazing. She is very patient and pays a lot of attention to her work. I’d say she treated my hair as if she was treating a fragile treasure! The salon itself is also a very nice and classy place. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience, and I totally recommend this place. It’s definitely worth a try for people who want to get a good hair cut but don’t want to pay a fortune for it.

Just had my first experience at the salon with Kaitlyn. She did a great job. Took direction well and was very friendly. She took her time and checked with me the entire time to make sure I was happy with the cut. I would definitely recommend her. Perfect if you live downtown and want to avoid Umbrella salon which sucks. The salon is small but intimate and cozy.

I got so many compliments and she made me feel like a princess!

I booked an appointment with Kaitlyn but her picture online didn’t look like the person who cut my hair.

I have to rave about the men’s cuts I’m getting at Downtown San Jose Headcase Salon from Audrey. (Cool spot right off Hwy. 87/​Guadalupe Pkwy. at Julian exit & St. James) I’m picky about my cuts because I like close sides and some length on the top blended in with style. Audrey has the magic touch! Also, I know if I’m thinking I want to get rid of a little grey in the goatee or lighten up a little she’s a wizard at coloring. No wait when I arrived on time for appointment and was in and out shampoo, cut and blow dry finish in 30 minutes. Awesome, thank you Audrey and Headcase Salon!

Okay… This place is adorable and if you love hair color, Audrey is your girl! She is creative and talented and she has done every color imaginable! Check this place out!

I started seeing Vanessa when i moved to San Jose on 2006, She was working at Tangerine at that time, so it is been 10 years that she is my hair stylist and she had done everything on my hair, haircuts, hi-​lights, color, Keratin, Brazilian blow out, updos and more and she always did a great job :) I really like her work also her personality.

Extremely happy with my hair by Rachel Rodriguez. She did an amazing job. I was nervous at first because my hair was really long, about to my lower back but I had to just bite the bullet and cut it. I was thinking about it for a couple of months but felt like if I kept over thinking it I would never do it. I came across Headcase on Unilocal.I am not disappointed at all. She really took her time on my hair. I’ve received tons of compliments on my hair thanks to Rachel. I love it! Will definitely be a repeat client!

Do yourself a favor and book an appointment with Kim Chong. Not only does she do beautiful color work in practically any shade you can dream, but she is also a pleasure to work with. It is so enjoyable to hear her talk about her work because she clearly loves what she does, and I find it so helpful that she tells you about the processes she is using on your hair so you can take better care of the finished product. She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate with phenomenal execution; who could ask for better qualities in a stylist?

*sigh* and my poor butchered hair grows ever shorter… as yet another amateur hacks away, exacerbating a nasty frizzy mess.
As a recent relocatee I am looking for my «forever» stylist and recently tried out Headcase Salon, which is in a super cute yellow house downtown. Love the building. I will not name the stylist I went to, since I feel that all members of the salon reflect on the salon. I was somewhat apprehensive because the stylist pushed upon me was lower-​level, but I was assured that her experience was not commensurate with her status (i.e. she had more experience than was reflected in her level). I specifically discussed with her my previous haircuts and how I was trying to grow out a badly layered cut.
I have lived with my hair for 40 years and have had some fantastic haircuts, but I have noticed many stylists, including this one apparently, lack the skills to blend layers in my tricky hair. The stylist decided to ignore what I said (or didn’t understand?) now I have dreadful, unblended layers creating a frizzy looking shelf, AGAIN, just as I had almost grown them out, including an odd new one right in the back of my head. After she was «done» I had to point out that my hair was actually not cut straight across the bottom. I remember looking at my hair in the mirror and thinking, «Do you actually think this looks okay? Like, are you proud of this haircut?»
When I left I was clearly unhappy with my haircut, and she kindly offered to cut it again at a future time, but my philosophy is: why would I let someone who butchered my hair at my hair again? I’m not a guinea pig so she can try to learn how to give a good haircut. Harsh, but there it is.
So, I am writing this review for the good of Unilocalers everywhere: this was my experience at this salon and of course you can take it with a grain of salt. The take home: from my experience this is a mid to low range salon. A tiny step up from the $ 15 haircuts you can get. I will not be coming here again.

Headcase Salon gave me a headache! My stylist would cancel me a few days before my scheduled appointment! It would be one thing if it happened once or twice, but over the course of a year over 3x! I stopped counting! Each time that occurred, I would try and reschedule with some of the more senior staff members however they were booked up. I was only left with the junior folks that were recently trained.
I decided enough is enough, and I can’t keep going back to a salon where my stylist keeps on flaking on my appointments. I am giving them 2 stars because when I did get a cut from my preferred stylist, it was good enough to have me coming back.

I followed Kim to this salon. She is AMAZING. We have been working on my ombré for a couple of years now and recently turned it into a rose gold. As always a great turnout! Thanks Kim!

This specific review is for Stefanie Dimeo. I have been looking for a new stylist for a couple years and I know I have found her. Women tend to be pretty picky & crazy about our hair… as we should be right? First about the beautiful salon. Which is a beautiful yellow Victorian house just 2 blocks from Santa Clara St. North of downtown, has immediate access to Highway 87, easy access to 280 and 101 and minutes to airport. The salon is beautifully decorated & is very inviting with free parking behind the house .
I was referred to Stefanie by my daughter Nicole. I was told she gets very booked up & I quickly made my appointment cause I could not wait to meet her as my daughter raved about her and shown me her work on Pin interest. I came to Stefanie with some highlights that were a mess, uneven & dull color. I always feel like stylists color my hair how they feel they want it. I prefer my highlights to look natural & sun-​kissed not chunky or reddish. Stefanie listened carefully and suggested an ash color highlights, Olaplex treatment & a trim. I loved that she sounded so confident and excited to do my hair. Exactly what I asked for… is exactly what I got– so impressed… From start to finish my experience was fantastic! Friendly, knowledgeable, organized, relaxed but professional, great vibe!
I have been getting lots of compliments on my hair and how natural and healthy my hair colors looks. She is a true colorist! Not only does she have excellent stylist skills, but she is very upbeat and fun to talk to, its almost like hairapy! My hair has not looked this beautiful/​health (Olaplex treatment) in years! Thank you Stefanie!!!

Priscylla is one of best hair dressers I’ve ever had! An Indian girl with long untamed hair (aka myself) is very picky about my hair. She first gave me a great haircut that was still long but had shape and looked healthy. She consulted me on how I should do my hair as I just wanted to go lighter but still be maintainable. She talked me through the process and ensured me I wasn’t going to go where I didn’t want to with my color.
She was friendly, a great conversationalist, and a genuinely really nice person. And on top of all that extremely patient with my long thick hair. I would highly recommend her and the salon.
Great atmosphere great music and friendly staff. And in the end I LOVE LOVE LOVE my hair. Thank you priscylla!

Kim is an amazing stylist! Not only is she extremely well trained but has a personality that will make time fly while getting your hair done. She’s very meticulous about her craft and loves what she does. I’ve had a haircut and balayge ombré done by her and the results were fantastic. I highly recommend Kim for all of your hair needs!

Came in here for the first time rolling the dice hard:
My baby mullet had been growing strong for weeks, and I had a first date that night. No can do.
I told Jessica what was at stake, and she wasn’t fazed («that’s some thick hair back there»).
Haircut was awesome. Date was terrible, but that’s because she talked about her divorce for 80% of the time.
It’s possible that haircuts here will make your dates pour their hearts out about their ex-​husband, but it’s more likely that was a coincidence.
Either way, the haircut was awesome, Jessica was friendly and helpful with style advice, etc.
I’d recommend her haircuts as strongly as I’d recommend against talking about your ex on a first date.
