Ummm definitely not a 4 star restaurant. Ordered red tuna nigiri and the fish was not the freshest. My coworker got the lunch bento box and he said it was ok. This place is pretty pricey for what they are serving. Pass!

I’m sorry if this comes off as mean, but I really don’t get the high marks for Midori, even if it is a small sample size. Did I eat at a different Midori than everyone else? Or did I just miss the memo as to why they’re so beloved? If I did, then I guess I probably used the wrong cover sheet for my TPS report as well… Truth be told, I’ve actually been to Midori twice now. I was so unimpressed the first time that I actually had zero interest in coming back, but I gave them another chance on the insistence of my friend’s coworker(BTW, «it’s not THAT bad» is not the way to sell a place). I somewhat agree with her that the menu offers a decent variety, but really, there isn’t anything substantially different(or better) than what you can find at just about any other Japanese restaurant in SF. – CHICKENKARAAGE — Battered Fried Chicken…$ 6.50 ( ) To be brutally honest, this is one of the worst Chicken Karaage dishes I’ve ever had. Not only was the chicken dry and bland(seasoning? hello?), but the«breading» felt more like a thin layer of corn starch that was really chalky. – SALMONNIGIRI&HAMACHINIGIRI…$ 4.75 and $ 4.95 ( ) The only reason why I didn’t give just one star. Both seemed fairly fresh, but the salmon was better. The Hamachi wasn’t bad, but the cut wasn’t as flavorful in comparison. In any case though, I thought both were a little pricey for what I got. – RYANROLL — Shrimp Tempura and Cream Cheese topped with Avocado and Unagi…$ 9.95 ( ) I ordered it mostly because it’s my friend’s coworker’s favorite roll, but I admit I was also mildly intrigued. I like all of those individual ingredients, but together they were a miss. For me, the tempura batter was more gummy than crispy, the unagi sauce was really sweet, there was just a sliver of avocado, and the rice was overcooked. Seeing as how several of Midori’s more favorable reviews mention living/working in the area, perhaps I have to live/work nearby to appreciate them as well. Midori certainly has a convenient location though, as parking in the area is incredibly easy. Still, based purely on food, I’d rather go to one of the many, better alternatives nearby that are comparably priced. But again, maybe I just didn’t get the memo.

This place was SUCH a disappointment!!! Unilocaler aware! This place recently change management so the high 4-star rating should be discounted! As a sushi lover, I would definitely NOT return back to this sushi place until they make some changes. I came here on a Saturday night with my friend on 9÷13÷2014 as I saw raving reviews from fellow Unilocalers for good sushi. However, I had to gave this place a 1 star due to the following: 1) Asked for Uni: Ran out of Uni 2) Ordered Soft Shell Crab instead: Came back 15 mins later saying that there is only half a crab left(how can you only have half a crab left?! — I’m glad at least you told me) 3) Asked for 1-cent sake shot that was highlighted on Unilocal: No longer have 1-cent sake shot due to recent management change and it does not serve alcohol. 4) Ordered Amaebi: Saw the chef went back to the kitchen to grab what it seems like frozen shrimp How can I not rate 1-star base on this experience! My friend and I ordered: * Chirashi – Good portion but the sashimi does not taste fresh * Spicy Tuna handroll – Acceptable * Hamachi kama – Super dry * Sushi Deluxe(my friend’s) – Does not look fresh * Amaebi – Previously frozen Only-pro: The waitress was very patient and nice. continue to serve us tea. definitely no wait to get below-mediocre food.

Worst experience I have ever had. Sat for an hour before being told that they had run out of sushi rice. Everyone in the place got the wrong orders and had to be apologized too. Will not be returning.

They have a very nice menu and friendly service. I went in to try out some rolls and I was not disappointed. Great variety and I am a picky eater so you know I’m not lying when I say that.

So happened to see this place while on the bus and decided to Unilocal it. I saw it had good reviews so I bookmarked it. It was one of the best restaurant experiences I had in a while. This is even the first time I’ve posted a review. Everyone was very polite, esp our server,(sadly didn’t catch her name). She was amazing! Very nice and always checked on us from time to time. Their prices are very reasonable and their sushi portions are bigger than I’ve had from other restaurants. Would definitely come back and recommend to other people!

Not here for the atmosphere, no Rock n Roll… Very nice people and the sushi is outstanding! The tuna and butter fish were amazingly fresh.

Excellent cozy establishment! A nice way to end a night after work with some delicious sushi crafted with both taste and delight for the eyes. The server was nice and polite. She recommended the dynamite roll and that was a first baked roll I’ve had and I must say I liked it. The omg roll was a definite go to if you like spicy tuna and a bit of crunch with the shrimp tempura. The rainbow roll was okay but the other two rolls were much better. Overall nice experience, worth another visit given the chance.

I’ve been coming here for a long time. Super nice and friendly staff. Food is always good. Prices are great. Very Convenient location. Only downside — atmosphere and decoration leave a little to be desired.

These guys were so accommodating! Our office is next to the hospital and we have had the worse time finding a sushi place that’s open early enough to feed us lunch around 11:30am. I came by and placed a $ 300 order and they made it happen! I had never actually eaten at the restaurant so I blindly placed an order and just picked a bunch of the deep fried items since we do have non-sushi(raw) eaters and deep fried is always a safe bet. That was my mistake. Some of them were overly battered and it was deep fried over kill. But, the sushi was great and we will definitely order from them as long as they can feed us around 11:30am!

Disclaimer: I usually go to Midori before 7pm with my little kid and husband. Service is super friendly. This place has really grown on me and I think their fish is as fresh as anywhere. They have some really tasty rolls, good seaweed salad and love that they have sake bomb specials(after a long week, a long commute and a toddler, sometimes it’s necessary, don’t judge). I can walk from my house which is why I go here more often than say Ebisu, Tanuki or Umami(iconic and historical vs. scene and ambiance). But I give Midori props. It’s super casual which I like. While I still think their rolls have just a little too much rice, I always enjoy the food here.

This place is incredible. Definitely will be returning again soon to try out some new rolls and charbroiled fish. The chargrilled tuna was off the hook. Incredible. The side salad is the cheap teriyaki variant, but nonetheless, totally fine by me considering how good the fish and sushi was and at such an affordable price point. The hawaiian roll with large lumps of fresh tuna was mind-blowingly on point. The other rolls that my friends ordered were equally awesome. ProTip #1: Hot tea is 1.25 per person. Tasty. ProTip #2: You have to ask for the complimentary green tea ice cream. It’s a secret favor. I’m coming back again to try the chargrilled salmon. Pretty sure I’ll try everything on the menu at this rate.

This review has been on my draft quite some time now and I guess I’m finally getting around to finish it along with all my other reviews. I always pass by this place on my way home and its in my neighborhood. I had the dragon roll and some sort of salmon roll(can’t really remember). The dragon roll was good but nothing out of the ordinary. Felt like it was missing something. What ever the salmon roll I had I didn’t really like. First the salmon didn’t taste fresh and I honestly felt sick after I ate 2 rolls of it. Maybe I went on a bad day and well need to give the place another try?

With about two dozen sushi competitors in the area, including exceptional choices like Tekka, it’s really mindblowing that Midori gets 4 stars. Yes, the menu is chock-full of interesting rolls. Yes, it’s really inexpensive for sushi. I suppose they have 1 cent saki(thought we didn’t try it). However, the quality of the food is terrible. Almost every roll contains imitation crab. A sign of low quality, but we persevered, ordering a rainbow roll and a sushi lunch(4 nigiri, 6 spicy tuna roll, 5 california roll). The raw fish was either chewy(the hamachi on the outside of the rainbow roll) or mushy(the salmon). The seaweed salad was corrupted by shredded immitation crab. The tobiko on top of the rainbow roll didn’t have that ever-plesant crunch, but was, like the salmon, mushy. The california roll was fine. The spicy tuna was grocery-store quality. It’s just unacceptable to serve fish of this quality. Service was fine, and they did take off the rainbow roll, since we got through ½ a piece each before spitting out the chewy fish. Either come here, get plastered, and stick to fried, non-fish items like tempura or go to any number of awesome sushi restaurants and enjoy a great meal!

Midori is a small, or more accurately put, tiny, sushi spot. But don’t be fooled by its size. Some of the best rolls I’ve ever had were from Midori! Excellent, attentive staff combined with great quality and inexpensive sushi. Oh, not to mention the green tea ice cream is complimentary! Tastes like the real matcha stuff, too. I’ve been here multiple times and I’ve always ordered different rolls each time. It’s all good! My favorite rolls are the: Spider, Rock & Roll, and G-Spot. My friends have been here for Happy Hour. They really do have dirt cheap sakes(dirt cheap as in 1 cent!)… What more can you ask for? Oh yea, maybe more seating? :-)

Oh Midori Sushi Rolls — I miss you. You are only 7 blocks away and I was there yesterday and I miss you again. Fairly priced, great service sushi place in my neighborhood. What could be better? — Their rolls!

Midori is our go-to neighborhood sushi spot. The fish is always fresh and delicious, and Joseph(the owner and sushi chef) is a wonderful person and a great chef. He is always able to tell us a lot about the fish he is serving(where it is from, what to look for in its texture, etc). One cent sake nights(Friday and Saturday) are also a lot of fun. It can be tough if you have a large group because this is a small place, but the sake shots are generous and it’s a good time. I don’t know why people have been saying that they’re stingy with their shots, since our table ordered around 80(we were a large group) and they kept them coming! All in all, highly recommended, especially if you live in the area and want a great new local spot. Sit at the sushi bar!

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE service! The waitress was reluctant to do anything — seat us, serve us, give us water, beer, sake, food. She would literally roll her eyes at us if we asked her for utensils. I’ve been in the restaurant & customer service industry for awhile now & this was the worst service I ever got in my life… not even exaggerating! And 100 sake shots for 1 cent each is a hoax. Everyone has to order a meal. They don’t even pour the shots out for you, like I’ve heard. They serve it in small bottles of sake. Each person is only allowed 10 shots. 1 small bottle of sake = 10 shots. They give you paper dixie cups to drink it out of. Keep in mind, my friends are I are not just cheap college kids trying to get free stuff, but we were definitely treated like it! DONOTGOHEREEVER!

Came w/a friend who is a Unilocaler to meet up w/more friends, all Unilocalers but 2 but they were all cool and funny ass folks that jokes profusely about sex. Reservations at 9, Els and I got there from San Jose on 280 and was there about 10 minutes prior and waited patiently in the car– we parked a few feet away from the restaurant so already the night was going well. We waltzed in to find Nicole and Shida and Justin. I seriously forgot the sequence but Barf, Juan, Jillian showed and talks at the table were so not even R-rated but it was an open and casual restaurant w/a flat-screen TV right by our table so the ones that were laughing along but weren’t making jokes(me and Barf, for instance), we benefited from the TV. it was Barf’s birthday. most of them came from a lounge beforehand but for a penny a shot of Sake, I think that was a good enough deal that nobody could pass. Most of them ordered beer, Jillian brought a bottle of wine, and the gang had shots of Sake and some made Sake bombs. I on the other hand was enjoying my Diet Pepsi and marveling at the extensive menu. I’m not into seafood so I didn’t know but Juan pointed out that this place has more of a roll selection, not sushi. Either way I didn’t care because I was eyeballing the chicken teriyaki and tofu agedashi. what’s weird is that at the end, on impulse, I ordered the jalapeño bomb. jalapeño, cream cheese, hot sauce, tuna. DEEPFRIED. Now I know I don’t eat seafood but the jalapeño and the word, «Fried» captured my taste buds so that’s what I got. We had a split bill and everyone ordered what they wanted. when I got my order, I ate w/o chewing, I think because it was so awesome tasting. I can barely taste the tuna but I’m sure it’s in there somewhere. I finished all 4 and wanted more but I knew I shouldn’t so I continued to sit there laughing along and the jokes and thinking about Mel’s since the diner was right across the street. The restaurant was closing. we were still at it. the restaurant closed, we were still going at it. Barf left, our 2 servers wasn’t aware and brought out a birthday dessert plate thingy. pineapple and a cherry, in which Els«zoinked» from Justin since Barf left, the next upcoming birthday was his. One note– should always ask your server to repeat the order because 2 rolls came out and we were like, «WTF, we didn’t order that» moment otherwise the servers were friendly and tried their best to accommodate us.
