I have been there a lot the food is good but the service is shitty. My second to last time there, there was a uncooked chickpea in my food and I almost cracked my tooth. I told the waitress about it and she was not even pressed. She just listened and let my comments pass through her like uncooked piece of chicken. I came this last time and I told her the vegetable pakora is nasty and she said thats how it is and walked away. The samosas were so salty I was reminded of when I almost drowned in the ocean. She really thought I was gonna pay for that pakora, she was mistaken when I paid for everything but that. Bish Wah! Love the food but service is gone like the hair on my head. Shame

I was very iffy about Indian food prior to trying this place out due to a coupon I found online a few years ago. Trying to figure out if that’s a good or bad thing because now I go at LEAST once a week. Not to mention whenever anyone asks«Where should we go?», let’s just say my answer isn’t ever surprising. I live for the butter chicken or chicken mahkani which is a super creamy tomato sauce with thinly sliced moist chicken that comes out with a pat of butter melting on top. Um… what? Yes please and thank you. The garlic naan is fantastic, soft snd fluffy yet still crispy on the outside. Just like the gods intended. I also love the mango lassi, which is basically a yogurty mango cup of deliciousness. You’re welcome. Indian food can seem intimidating but this place makes you wonder why you haven’t taken the leap sooner. So go forth and leap!

Came here to celebrate a family member’s birthday. She was craving Indian food and Unilocal ended up showing this place as one of the higher rated Indian restaurants in the area. It is located in a strip mall a few doors down from 7-Eleven. It wasn’t very crowded when we arrived at dinner time, a little after 5:00pm, on a weekday(Thursday). I noticed 2 – 3 other parties in the restaurant. We were greeted, seated, and menus were brought out to us promptly. After returning with water, our server answered questions we had about the dishes on the menu. We ordered: plain naan, garlic herbal naan, chicken tikka masala, chicken vindaloo, macha kors takari, chicken momo, and a mango lassi drink. The food was delicious… I really like the chicken tikka masala and the salmon dish(macha kors takari). Between the two different naan breads, everyone preferred the garlic. My only complaint is that the portion to price ratio could be better. For the price, I expected better sized portions of food. Service was good initially, but tapered off midway and flat lined at the end. Our server never came back to refill water or ask us how everything was. We had to ask for our bill and flag someone down for a small box for our left over naan. Overall, I’d rate this place 3.5 stars. The food was good, but there’s room for improvement in other areas. 4.0 /5.0 — Food(taste) 4.0 /5.0 — Décor /Cleanliness 2.5 /5.0 — Service 2.0 /5.0 — Value(portion to price ratio)

Came here with my bestie after she had a tattoo started and completed in the Sports Arena area. We recently had Indian food and I told her about the great Nepalese/Himalayan food that my other bestie had taken me to nearby. So down the street we go to this lovely restaurant. We ordered the dumplings aka chicken momo, garlic naan, tikka masala, and don’t remember the name of the veggie curry but it had eggplant. I absolutely love the food here, consistent about the flavors as the first time I tried their food. I was cracking up because the momo was shaped kind of like a volcano with a crater in the middle, perfect for putting some dipping sauce in and eating it. My friend said, perfect, it comes with it’s own sauce holder. I know the curry portions are smaller than what people are used to at Indian restaurants, to me it’s perfect portion. You don’t have to take to go, that’s actually the amount two people should be eating anyway. I will always love garlic naan and there’s is very good. Will return and have to try their other curries.

Simply it. Delicious food. Our wait time was 45minutes but it’s understandable when it’s busy, but the reason why we eat out is for the laughs and the yummy food to share with the ones you love, right?

I love coming to this place for their Chicken Tikka Masala! I prefer spicy so I go the whole 10 and it’s awesome every time! Their garlic naan compliments the dish very well! I recommend this place of you’re craving something different. Best Indian/Nepalese restaurant in town!

Went here for lunch the first time last week. Surprised by how packed it was, but there are two dining rooms so I got a table right away. Once I got to the table though, it took about 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge that I was sitting there(ready to order). I finally ordered and waited a little but longer for the food to come out. I got the Saag Aloo and Chicken Tikka Masala, they were both good with great flavor. The Saag Aloo though only had one measly potato in it, which was sad. But for $ 10 total(including tip) I can’t complain! Will come back!

By far the best Indian food I’ve ever had! The curry was great and the food was really VEGAN friendly as well. The lunch special includes naan and two sides and rice… A real deal for anyone on a budget. Just great place

Is the food worth the service? We were extremely disappointed by our visit after all of the great things we had heard. The food was very good, but the service varied between dismissive, disinterested or annoyed. We were the only people in there for the first half of our meal. We felt unwelcomed and on edge the entire time we were there which most likely impacted our ability to really enjoy the food.

What can I say but that I LOVE this spot. Their $ 7.95 lunch special($ 1 more for salmon tikka masala) is the best deal in town. Comes with two entrees and basmati rice and lentils soup. And naan! Doesn’t get any better than that! However, when asked how Spicy you want your dish it, a 6 on a Monday is different from a 6 on a Wednesday. There is no rhyme or reason so if you are sensitive to spice, let your server know. Does get a bit crowded during the 12:00 lunch hour so plan accordingly if you have a big group. I can only speak on the lunch specials and don’t know how dinner portions are. Based on the pics… It’s seems generous. Best Indian and Value in town hands down.

First time in San Diego and first time in this little restaurant. Food was not exceptional, but it was good and satisfying. We ordered Veggie Momos, Aloo Gobhi and Malai Kofta along with Aloo Parantha and Cilantro naan. It came with complimentary Soup and Rice. Best part was the Dal soup and Veggie Momos. The Dal soup was made of Mung dal and Chana dal, had mild spices. It was served hot so made it more delicious. Veggie Momos were so good. The kind of Momos, I have been dying to eat since my Delhi days. Main coarse was routine stuff, you get in other Indian restaurants. Not much to write about. Definitely a must visit restaurant.

The lunch special is SOOOOO good and the portions are awesome. Let’s just say I had some leftovers. You get to choose TWO of the items on the menu, and it comes with lentil soup and naan. I opted to trade for the garlic cilantro naan(no problem). The amount of naan for two was plentiful. I would say I got about a good 6 pieces of naan! I recommend the Chicken Vindaloo and the Chicken Tiki Masala.

The reason this isn’t a 5 is because I think this place wasn’t as great the second time around. Both times I got the chicken tiki masala, the flavor is sweet, rich and creamy. First time I asked for a 3, and it wasn’t spicy. This time I asked for medium spicy, 5, and it wasn’t spicy at all. Next time I’ll try a 10 just to see if they actually make it spicy. My boyfriend got the lamb boti kebab, which is pieces of lamb on a sizzling plate with veggies. Although tasty, a bit overcooked by the time it got to the table. That’s the trouble with the sizzling plates. We also got the naan of the month. The first time we got it, it was super crispy, sweet with cherries. This time, it was softer, no crisp at all and had a ton of dried fennel in it. If you like food stuck in your teeth, get it. Otherwise stick with the garlic naan or wait till next month. Overall, I’d go back again. This is by far the best Indian food place in San Diego. I just hope it doesn’t go down from my last meal here.

This place is amazing! A friend and I randomly came across it one night and we’ve been hooked ever since. By far one of our favorite spots to dine. The ambience is nice with soothing music playing overhead. There’s also a rear dining area where you can sit on a pillow at a low table(with your shoes off of course so come prepared; have clean feet, socks or a decent pedicure so you won’t be embarrassed). The servers always have impeccable customer service and make you feel welcomed. Now down to the food! Whatever your taste preference, this place has it and it’s simply delicious. Many herbs, spices, sauces and meats to choose from. My personal favorite is the chicken tikka masala(I prefer mild but you can get it as spicy as you want), the chicken momo appetizer and the garlic naan. If you’re a foodie and like to explore, Taste of the Himalayas is the perfect place to please your taste buds. Very satisfying!!!

Really great food and huge selection with decent prices. With naan and a dish id say it’s about $ 15 – 20. The service was excellent and the space is nice with a big mirror on one wall so it looks more spacious. The rice seemed really buttery. That might be a good thing since I’m sure it tastes better, it just doesn’t seem as authentic as id hoped. It seems a bit Americanized. Great place. Worth a try

Date of visit: 8÷25÷2015 I used to come here for the lunch specials, which are definitely awesome. Dinner is quite a bit more expensive, but the quality and taste are still the same. They use a lot of fennel here, which I’m not a big fan of, but I still eat because the food is so good here. Mango Lassi. The mango lassi is pretty typical here. It goes great with curry, especially if you’re having spicy curry and need something to temper the heat. Daal Soup. This is my favorite daal soup in San Diego. I hate getting too full off of soup, so this is a nice starter. I also like that it’s pretty much just daal and nothing too complicated. It’s as simple as soup can get. Vegetable Samosa. The samosa wrappers here are more doughy than flaky. They also have a lot of fennel in both the wrappers and potato filling, so these are definitely not my favorite samosas. I had forgotten that I wasn’t a big fan of their samosas, so this was a good, albeit expensive reminder. Chicken Tikka Masala. We got a medium spice level, and I thought it was too sweet. Cam really liked the spice level, but I definitely could have endured more spice. The gravy is thicker than most other curry places, and the portion was a little small. Since Cam and I had split the soup and samosas, we still had leftovers, but there wasn’t a lot of chicken. The chicken that we did have though was pretty tender and the flavor was great. Overall, Taste of the Himalayas is definitely a great lunch place since their lunch special is such a great deal. If you’re looking for gigantic portions, this probably isn’t the place to go, but I’m definitely a fan of the flavors used here — it’s definitely a unique experience. We’ve also never had an issue with the wait staff — they were super attentive and always made sure we had our waters filled and asked if we needed anything else.

Authentic Indian food in a small mom and pop restaurant. My brother works nearby and comes very often for their lunch special. Less than $ 10 for lentil soup, 2 dishes, naan and rice. Very reasonable prices for yummy foods that fill you up! Everything I have tried here has been phenomenal and super flavor filled. You can taste all the spices they put into each dish. You can choose your spice level. I always go with 5 which gives you just the right amount of spice to still taste all the strong indian flavors. First, the complimentary lentil soup is very flavorful and tasty. It is kind of creamy and you can taste the spices that were put into the soup. My favorite is the Chicken Tikka Masala. It is the perfect amount of sweet and spicy. Pair it with the Naan. OMG it is amazing. The naan is freshly made and perfectly buttered with a nice crisp. You have a choice of garlic naan or plain. Both are very good. I also tried the buttered chicken. I can’t really taste the difference between that and the chicken tikka masala. The only way I noticed was that the buttered chicken came with a glob of butter on top. We also got this redish chicken. I forgot the name, but it was also very tasty if you are looking for a dish that isn’t saucy. It had Chinese flavor to it and great flavor. The Lamb Biryani was also very good. It’s like a indian fried rice. Lots of spices and very flavorful. The portions look small, but it is very filling. Don’t be fooled.

I’m a sucker for a good lunch special. My fiancé works in Point Loma and he’s talked about this wonderful place with great lunch specials for months. Needless to say, I had to check it out. For their lunch specials, it is available Monday-Friday, you get to pick any of the 2 dishes listed(saag aloo, chicken tikka masala, vegetable coconut curry, chicken vindaloo, goat curry, etc) served with rice, naan, and lentil soup. Woaaaa the choice of two dishes plus all the sides makes one big lunch that will leave you in a wonderful food coma! Pair it with a mango lassi and you’re good to go! Prices are amazing, a range of $ 7.95−9.95. Great for lunch huh? I’ve heard amazing reviews about their dinner as well as other dishes(momos, anyone?) and will definitely be back! Now as I conclude this review… I’ll be giving into my food coma by taking a nap! :)

Came here for lunch and was not disappointed! Lunch was under $ 10 for small soup, naan bread, rice, chicken tikka masala and coconut curry vegetables-wow! Let’s just say I was full for the remainder of the day. I ordered my food to go and it was ready in 10 minutes, which was very convenient. Will definitely return to try more.
