It was alright. They have a bunch of good reviews and friends have talked this place up so much that maybe my expectations were too high. I went with a friend today around 12. It was busy but the line went pretty quickly and our food was ready within 10 minutes. The cashier was super friendly and up beat. I love the chalk art menu, that was pretty cool. We got the lobster roll, some Korean bbq sandwich, shrimp fried rice and chowder. The bread on my lobster roll looked really good but was kind of dry and didn’t taste fresh. The Korean bbq sandwich was good. The shrimp fried rice was average, nothing better than what I can make at home. The chowder was pretty good, really flavorful. Overall the food wasn’t bad but I don’t think it was worth $ 40 for lunch. I probably wouldn’t go back there, but I am glad I finally tried it!

Can’t add much to the 600+ review, except it is great and the ladies that work the register are upbeat and professional. Best tip I can give: is if you are going to the St. Archer’s Brewery stop by here to get some grub. It goes really well with beer, and the shrimp chip are superior to the free popcorn at St. Archers.

Great food. Love the names. If you’re in the mood for seafood, and a sandwich, this is your place. Customer service was quick and very polite. Would recommend to anyone.

I came in here last Friday with my coworker for lunch and the place was packed. We stood in line for 10 minutes and waited another 10 minutes for our food. We had to eat rather quickly since we were on our lunch break. We ordered the lobster roll and the crab sandwich. Everything was delicious and fresh tasting. The lobster roll was not really that big but the umami butter and fresh lobster pieces made up for the size. The crab sandwich was a good size and the tomato relish and 4 different types of cheese really made it tasty. The sandwiches were accompanied by shrimp chips. I used to eat these when I was little so I didn’t hate them but didn’t love them either. I think it would be great if they could give the option of switching out the shrimp chips with fries or regular chips? Overall, the food was delicious. I couldn’t rate it higher than 3 stars because of the long wait and the high prices. Our lunch cost $ 35 and some change for 2 sandwiches and chips. In order for me to come back, I would love to see some specials.

OVERPRICED and SKIMP on food. if i pay $ 15 for a sandwich, i expect much more than just 6 pieces of shrimp in it. the pictures on Unilocal are DECEIVING. there is only meat on the top of the sandwich and basically nothing inside. this place is a TOTALRIPOFF

Supernatural Sea to Sandwich lives up to the hype. The lobster roll with umami butter is delicious. It is also reasonably priced especially for the amount and quality of lobster you are getting. I definitely recommend it along with the Siren. The shrimp in the Siren are perfectly cooked and seasoned. Both were some of the best sandwiches I have ever had, but the lobster roll was by far my favorite. My sister and I wanted dessert and they sold macaron ice cream sandwiches. They were average because the macaron cookies weren’t properly made. If you want dessert, I recommend going somewhere else but the actual sandwiches were that delicious, it made up for the okay ice cream sandwiches.

Really tasty, fresh seafood sandwiches. Very affordable. First comes first serve. Their most popular item is the«siren» sandwich and their lobster roll with house made umami butter, which was my favorite. Everything was fresh and really flavorful. I definitely recommend it.

I got really lost coming here via Google Maps. Dropped into two other plazas before finding the store(which looked a lot different than what I imagined). Walked in and felt happy knowing I was closer to food and the ice cream macarons. I was promptly assisted and given suggestions and chose the sandwich everyone has a hard time pronouncing. Once the order came, I was disappointed. I paid $ 17 and the size and presentation was a lot less than expected. I put my expectations and went in… More disappointment settled in. It’s not like the seafood wasn’t great. The lobster was good, BUT it lacked the OOMPH I expected from a place deemed #1 for sandwiches in San Diego. I expected more flavor and size for its price. I guess I paid more for the lobster than anything though. And the chips… Random. It looked so out-of-place on my plate, but I ate it. Well, one lol. It wasn’t my cup of tea. All in all, great service and churro ice cream mac(once thawed).

I got the Neptune(substituted avocado for the bacon) and the garlic shrimp fried rice. Free drink for getting sandwich + side combo. Service was friendly; everyone who works there seems happy. The energy and atmosphere are infectious. Rice came out first and pronto. Yummy garlicky rice with chunks of chopped shrimp piled high in a bowl… and my mouth. Next, the sandwich… heavenly. I’m a scallop girl; it was bomb! Bread was crisp on the outside, soft on the inside and buttery: scallops, avocado, and sauce were yum delicious. Shrimp chips were surprisingly delicious, as well. Nice touch. The food had soul! I got full. Took my hubs a Cthulu and my leftover rice. Thumbs up and five stars from him. I will return to this spot whenever I’m in SD again.

We have visited Supernatural Sandwiches again several times. The sandwiches are still excellent but the service is suffering during peak times as a result of their popularity. For example, I only realized that my recent takeout order was prepared wrongly after I left, and did not have the patience to wait for a replacement after I drove back and received a refund. They should have at least offered me a free drink or even sandwich for my troubles! I can’t say that lack of customer appreciation has encouraged me to return.

I came here after being prompted by a San Diego Thrillist for best grilled cheese sandwiches. The famous grilled cheese mentioned in the article was the Griffin(spicy lobster grilled cheese), one of the seven sandwiches listed on the Sinister 7 side of Supernatural’s menu. Going in my game plan was to order this sandwich as my mom and I are currently eating our way through San Diego to find the best grilled cheese sandwich. It didn’t happen. I was totally distracted by all the other delicious sandwiches listed on the menu — blackened tuna, spicy garlic shrimp, shrimp bahn mi, etc. The menu highlights fish, which the website boasts to be local, fresh, and sustainable seafood, but there are also sandwiches on the menu that contain steak and chicken. I ordered the Siren(spicy garlic shrimp, garlic aioli, tomatoes), my cousin ordered the Phoenix(fiery curry chicken), and my mom ordered a modified Griffin(grilled cheese without the lobster). Each sandwich comes with a side of shrimp chips, which I actually could have done without(I’m not really a fan of shrimp chips). Fortunately my sandwich was enough to fill me up. 1. The bread was soft, yet toasted perfectly with just the right amount of crunchy texture. The website says the bread is also harvested locally. 2. The shrimp was cooked nicely — a nice pink/opaque color coated with a delicious spicy garlic seasoning. The spice is actually more on the mild side. 3. And one of my favorite aspects of the sandwich: the bread has its bottom still intact, useful for no sandwich spillages! We all left with smiling faces, full bellies, and a consensus that we would definitely all come back! P. s. And they played Josh WAWA?! Yus.

This place is worth the hype. The lobster roll is so yummy! Only downside is that there’s not enough seating with how busy they are.

Went here for my second time tonight! First time a few months back I got the Griffin. SO. DAMN. GOOD. It’s like so good that you have to express it by going«Ohhhh» and tilting your head back as it melts in your mouth. Same thing happened tonight. This time I got the Kappa(crab melt) and the shrimp fried rice. Kappa was yummy, but tasted a lot more like tomato than crab. The shrimp fried rice was incredible! I can’t wait to come back again and try the rest. :)

When we feel like splurging a bit, we go here for some awesome shrimp/scallop or even lobster sandwiches. The interior décor changed quite a bit from our last visit. Seating arrangement could be better as I feel it’s a bit cramped. On this recent visit, we had Kappa(Smokey Crab Melt), Cthulhu(Lobster Roll) and Harpy(Shrimp, Bacon & Goat Cheese). We’ve had Harpy before and this is actually DH’s favorite off the menu. Cthulhu had big chunks of lobster meat however the bread was a bit dry. Meat to bread ratio was not on point but flavor wise it’s an awesome lobster roll. Kappa however was full of tomato and that’s all we tasted — it was weird. I could barely taste the crab. We still like going here every once in a blue moon and I think we’ll keep it like that for now.

Probably the best sandwich I’ve ever had. Period. It’s a little joint tucked into a strip mall, next to a military barber. You wouldn’t find it, except for the outstanding Unilocal reviews. And yes, it’s worth finding it. Lobster rolls are hard to find on the West Coast. I’m from Boston and schooled in Maine, so I know a thing or two about lobstah rolls. And this place takes it to a whole new level. Craazzzzzy good! Like nothing I’ve ever had before. I’ll drive here again from OC just to try other items on the menu. The Griffin I ordered had seriously large chunks of Maine lobstah claw meat — the tenderest part of the shellfish. It’s in this spicy red sauce that is like no other. Then it’s melted into some gooey cheese and sandwiched into soft crunchy cake-like bread. Wow! Incredible. The crab meat equivalent — the Kappa, is smokey and equally delicious. They don’t make this stuff anywhere else. Incredible concept. The scallop bacon chowda is a meal in itself. A bit on the salty side, but it’s worth it weight on this exemplary menu. We were there at 2:30 on a Monday, and it was packed. I understand from our waitress that the chefs are Filipino, Vietnamese and other Asians. Excellent job people. Fantastic concept. Unique. Perfect execution. Congratulations on a job well done.

So satisfying to have such indulgent sandwiches! Not a place for those seeking low cholesterol, gluten free, low salt, seafood allergy free diets. However, if you’re going to fall off the wagon. This is the place to do it & not regret it. I had the Siren from what the lady at the counter says is from the«healthier» side of the menu. None of the items are healthy but all look and sound so inviting. Lobster, shrimp, bacon, cheese! What! All the mouth watering items that gets your taste buds salivating! The shrimps in my sandwich took at least a couple of bites to finish 1 shrimp. The shrimp even fell out a couple of times. Ah-ha! That’s why there’s a fork & knife provided! I took a bite of my daughter’s sandwich, The Aphrodite, which had shrimp, bacon & cheese! Still a solid sandwich. Please come and try these awesome sandwiches. You’d be depriving your taste buds.

Who is this chef? Very interesting and delicious sandwiches. Definitely thinking outside the box. The first time I came here I tried the Nessie. So tasty. Quality ingredients. I just went here again last night and had the shrimp Banh Mi which had crispy chinese sausage with fresh veggies on a fabulous crispy french roll. Perfection. Shrimp was nicely cooked. Also decided to try the shrimp fried rice as a side dish. For $ 5 it comes with a fountain soda. That fried rice is BOMB. It’s a smallish portion, but lots of flavor. Very yummy. Can’t wait to try more.

DEEEEEEEELISH! So I was leaving my luxurious stay at The Waterfront Marriot, I was staaaaaaarving. I wanted to give Mr. Blais another shot and try his more casual spot The Crack shack. I headed over there and saw a crazy ass line, I pulled over to the side and said F this, what’s my Plan B. I almost went to StreetCar merchants but I wanted to wait when I came back to SD with the Fam. I said ya know what, lets do Supernatural Sandwiches. So I was on my way! I’m not familiar with SD that much and thank god this place was on the way back, but damn this place seems like it’s off the beaten path in some rinky dink shopping center. I parked and sat in my car and hit moms up and asked her what she wanted off the menu. She told me and off I went! I walked in and there were two girls in front of me both friends but separate ass orders UGH. I wish I came in before they did because the first friend ordered with ease. Her pasty friend not so much. She asked every fuckin question in the book about the menu and after all that bullshit, she wanted a chicken sandwich with basically nothing on it. She should have stayed her ass at home and ate her own food to her liking o_O. I will say after and I shit you not 10 minutes of this, the cashier was a doll and answered every question with enthusiaum. Praise the lord for such a patient person a young one at that. I’m new to this place but as a true foodie, I always stalk the menu the night or hours before so I know exactly what I want with no questions asked like Miss pasty pants(eye roll.) So FINALLY it was my turn to order and believe me I had enough time to figure it out LOL. I ordered Shrimp fried rice, Scallop bacon chowder, The Kappa, The siren and two orders of Shrimp chips not knowing your sandwiches already come with it LOL. That was fine by me since the shrimp chips were so damn good and held me over when I drove back to OC: D Again the cashier is stellar. I didn’t’ t catch her name but she was so sweet and never turned off the charm. Now for the food. I got home and started to unpack everything. Of course I took my food porn first then taste tested everything :) The sides are very tasty. The scallop bacon chowder was so good. Thick and creamy and packed with proteins. I loved how they give you a little bag of Chinese donut bits to put in your soup. It was perfectly seasoned and I would get this again easily. The shrimp fried rice was good. It doesn’t have your Chinese food fried rice flavors but more like the Hawaiian fried rice. My Mom didn’t think it had enough shrimp, I said mom their in bits and not full size. The cup they serve it in isn’t big enough for full size shrimp BUT if you plate it, there is a good amount to plate! The shrimp chips, were addicting! I couldn’t stop eating them n the way home. I was glad I over ordered because my mom was hooked as well! Now for the sandwiches. The Kappa was everything I wanted and more. I had to make sure what kind of cheese they used because a few weeks back I went to Slapfish and finally splurged on that 15 dollar seafood grilled cheese and my heart sank when the waitress set it down and it was made with American cheese o_O. For 15 bucks you better have something better than government cheese or at least give me an option to choose. Luckily the owner is giving my money back on top of a meal on him the next time I’m in: D So back to Super natural’s version. Their sammy is a four cheese blend, none of the government type LOL. All cheese’s I adore just don’t ask me to remember which HAHA. Someone made mention that their sandwiches didn’t have enough seafood and I beg to differ because mine was packed with seafood and so was my mommies sandwich. So flavorful and the sandwich made great leftovers in my toaster over. The Siren had about 8 full sized shrimps and I was amazed how loaded with ingredients this sandwich had. Another flavorful sammy and my mom was satisfied! Overall this was such a great meal and it traveled VERY well on the trip back to OC. I can’t wait to come back and try other sandwiches and get more of those crack shrimp chips!

Three sandwiches 38.00 bucks. no drinks, no sides. no extras Ouch. My bf liked the crab sandwich he had, but I was underwhelmed by the lobster roll. Lobster was tough, and didn’t taste much butter. Kids had the grilled cheese but they didn’t seem to like it much. The people are really nice here, but for the cost I was hoping for something more

YESYESYES to everything about this place. Ever since I discovered it on Unilocal,I was soooo excited to try it. The day finally came and I had to TU too hard the night before. Hey, finals were over ok? I was hungover to the max but still made the trip here. Once I walked in, I felt alive again. You basically order and pay in the front and they will serve the food to you. I had the Cthulu, Siren, and Scallop bacon chowder and it was nothing short of spectacular. My favorite would be the Cthulu– Lobster drenched in Umami butter in a perfectly toasted sourdough bun. Mmmmmm… Even when hungover and all I wanted was to get some phở and sleep, I thought this was 10⁄10. The scallop bacon chowder came with a free soft drink. There were tons of bacon and scallops in there and even a few pieces of Chinese donuts! The Siren– Spicy garlic shrimp was mediocre compared to the Cthulu in my opinion but still good! All I’m saying is that you NEED to try the Cthulu! The decorations inside were super cute and they had little snowflakes hanging from the ceiling for some holiday spirit! I thought it was really clever how they name their sandwiches after mythological creatures hence the name supernatural sea to sandwich! I still have dreams about this place and can’t wait until I’m back in San Diego to try more of their sandwiches. Kappa you are next on my list!

Seafood forward, eclectic, unique and hip sandwich place. The scallop bacon chowder was VERY good as in, it needs to be in CAPITAL«VERY» letters. Not yelling — just sayin’. Lobster roll sandwich was on the salty side but huge chunks of Lobster claw cures all complaints. It’s filling and the thick buttered bread helps with the ratio of seafood to carb in your mouth. The Phoenix Curry sandwich was SOLID. This curry leaned towards peanutty although I don’t know if there was peanuts in it. It’s good enough by itself or even on a bed of rice in its traditional form. The Scalloped sandwich boasted moist scallops which didn’t leave you wanting for more. It fills your mouth and tummy. I like the shrimp chips(which comes sparingly w your sandwich order) It’s something most Asians grew up with and so the nostalgia and or crunchy texture w just the right amount of sodium on it brings a nice well rounded sandwich to higher culinary experience levels. I’d come back here solely for there Phoenix curry sandwich. It’s solid by all measures. Kudos to Supernatural.

I have nothing but great things to say about this place ! Very creative, flavorful, and beautifully presented seafood sandwiches ! I remember eating these back in the day when they were out at the farmers markets and was thrilled to find out that they found a place to settle down. Each sandwich comes with togarashi shrimp chips which packs the perfect crunch to compliment your sandwich. My personal favorites include: Siren– $ 9 Bread + Cie brioche crispy garlic rustic italian tomatoes garlic aioli hot sauce wild baja shrimp shredded peppercorn romano Chimera — $ 11 bread + cie brioche marinated korean bbq wild baja shrimp kimchi tri chili blend sauce cthulhu — $ 16 main lobster garlic aioli umami utter bread + cie brioche

Seafood and sandwiches?! I love both of those things. With as many reviews as there are for this place, I think I’ll skip the adventure part and go right to the treasures, aka, key takeaways. 1. Smaller than expected, but luckily when I arrived it wasn’t packed. I didn’t come here during typical lunch or dinner hours though — it was a spur of the moment kind of stop. 2. I didn’t see a public restoroom. Keep that in mind. 3. No alcohol! Not that it’s a deal breaker, but a nice cold brewski would’ve pleased my palate alongside my delicious sandwich. 4. I got the Griffin — SUPERDELICIOUS. With a side of scallop bacon chowder — REALLYTASTY. Note: there’s quite a bit of bacon. All sandwiches come with these… shrimp chips? I want to say they’re the togarashu shrimp chips that’s on their sides menu, but I could be wrong. I will definitely be back — their menu consists of 14 different sandwiches and I need to try them all!

Stopped by Supernatural Sea to Sandwich a few weeks ago after hearing about it from several people. At first I thought it was called Supernatural Sandwiches, I didn’t know it was primarily seafood sandwiches. That’s not a problem since I love seafood. Their menu is a little complex as they have quite a few items on the menu. I went with the Siren sandwich which consist of spicy garlic shrimp. Like a lot of people say, the portions aren’t big and it’s a bit messy to eat to be honest. The shrimp falls out of the sandwich but man the taste. It has a bit of a spicy taste to it but the flavor just bursts in your mouth. The prices are a bit more expensive which you can expect from it being a seafood restaurant. Just be wary that I’ve noticed many people not being full after having their meal and spending $ 20 or so for a small sandwich and drink.

Buenos sandwiches, novedosos y deliciosos! La porcion es algo pequeña comparada con las porciones promedio de los restaurantes de San Diego! El sabor es muy bueno y novedoso ya que la mayoria de los sandwiches son de mariscos… El siren es bastante bueno por cierto!

Tasty lobster rolls but definitely a big hit to your wallet($ 16). Supernatural Sea to Sandwich is a fast-casual restaurant that specializes in seafood offerings(but they throw in some other proteins as well — chicken and steak and bacon). Their menu composes of sandwiches but you can sub any of the bread with either salad or fried rice(free of charge, I think). Their lobster roll excels because of their nice chunky lobster meat pieces and fresh super buttery brioche bun. I definitely wanted more and I think $ 16 is probably the going price for a reasonably sized lobster roll. We also tried the Siren(spicy shrimp) and that was alright. Probably because I can’t handle spicy that well and it was quite spicy. If you are ordering sandwiches to share, I would recommend getting the lobster roll in the brioche bun and then your other protein in some other vessel because as tasty as the buns are, they can get kinda overwhelming after a few bites. The other people in our party also tried the lobster roll and the Kappa(crab meat) and also commented the lobster roll was the standout. In addition to sandwiches, they have sides and desserts. With any of the sides you order, you get a free fountain drink. We tried the bacon and scallop chowder($ 5) and too much celery for my liking but everything else was good. A table near us kept commenting how amazing their shrimp fried rice was so I’m definitely tempted to order that next time. — In strip mall, same plaza as Roberto’s(or is it called Rigoberto’s now???) — plenty of parking — small location(not too much inside/outside seating).i wouldn’t bring a huge party — Can earn and redeem points on Five stars reward — Why did they choose such a difficult to pronouce name(Cthulhu) for their most popular item???
