Sail Liberty

Captain Phil and JJ are wonderful. We called last minute and they were able to fit us in. We joined the sunset tour and cruised around the bay for a couple of hours with captain Phil. He had us at all you can drink beer and wine. Phil was knowledgable and fun. Definitely a great date night and worth the price.

Ahhhh, this review is a few weeks overdue! We had friends in town and wanted to book a boat last minute, and I happened to call JJ and she was so incredibly helpful and friendly in getting us set up for an memorable boat ride along the harbor on a Saturday afternoon! She was responsive, got all of our questions answered, set us up with everything we needed to know and we were on our way the next day! When we arrived at the boat, we were blown away by the beauty of it. It’s an antique-​like boat that’s been restored and looks so dreamy! It fits up to 6 people and is perfect for an afternoon activity among friends. Captain Philip was so, so wonderful throughout the ride — all smiles the whole time while allowing us to goof off and do our own thing! The boat was perfect, Captain Philip and JJ were friendly and gracious and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the experience! My friends from out of town said it was their best experience yet in San Diego! Thanks again you guys!

Just a fantastic tourist experience (and this is coming from a local!). Met Jessica through a business event and she told me about her upcoming Brews Cruise, where a host from Helm Brewing would be onboard sampling beers for their guests. We decided to book the whole boat, and I’m so glad we did!
It’s a gorgeous sailing vessel-​I think if the weather had been nicer (we were in the sunset cruise window), we would have spent more time exploring the boat and crawling around. Instead, we enjoyed the Helm Brewing host explaining to us their backyard brewing style, and got to enjoy food, drinks and lots of laughs with our friends!
I would happily book again to impress clients or take a romantic cruise! The online gallery is completely accurate-​this boat is beautiful and Capt Phillip and Jess are great :)

We had a party of 7 go for a Sunday afternoon sail on the «Liberty» with Capt. Phil. What a wonderful experience. The Liberty is a vintage design sailboat which has been refinished in modern materials. The result is a showpiece that can comfortably accommodate up to 8 passengers. Phil is an experienced captain who quickly sets you at ease that he is more than a match for the job at hand, more important on a sailboat. His detailed knowledge of the bay makes the sail informative and fun. He is accommodating and courteous to the adults but he is great with kids so be sure to bring them. Sail Liberty for the highlight of your San Diego experience.

Captain Philip and Jessica are fun hosts on their beautiful boat named Liberty. Their harbor tour is so much more intimate and personal than some of the other cruise tours in San Diego. We had a wonderful experience sipping mimosas and soaking in the sights. Truly a one-​of-​a-​kind experience! I’d like to go back and experience their sunset cruise.

What a fun adventure. We did the sunset cruise on Valentine’s Day. Capt Phil took very good care of us. A well experienced Capt that has thought of everything to have aboard to make a nice evening. We will definitely be back.

I went with my kids aged 2 and 6 plus their grandparents. We had a great time, Capt Phil was very good with the kids and oldies! we saw dolphins, sea lions and more!

Phil and his Sail Liberty made for a very entertaining afternoon on his antique sailboat. We went on a sunset tour, and saw the Midway Aircraft Carrier, Coronado Bridge, a sea lion sunning colony, a sunset over the Coronado, and much more. We passed a mock cannon battle between two antique ships, and our ship fit right in.
Captain Phil is entertaining, and his stories about San Diego and his own long history on the water are really interesting, and beyond what you’ll typically hear. The ship is intimate, probably no more capacity than 8 or 10 people, so it has a different feel than going on a giant Hornblower cruise — you’re in the action and really feel like you’re on the water.
Great trip worthwhile for both visitors and locals.

My husband and I took the Liberty harbor cruise several months ago and had the most fantastic time. I’ve been meaning to review ever since, but was just a little slow getting to it.
We were in SD for just a few days and at the last minute decided to book a sailboat ride. Jessica took the call and was very accommodating, and provided us with excellent directions to the harbor as well as relevant information — like that we were welcome to BYOB. When we got the dock we were met by Capt. Phil, who was super nice and welcomed on to his beautiful sailboat. The boat accommodates six passengers; my husband and I were with three hilarious young Canadian bros, which definitely made the trip more entertaining.
Capt. Phil provided us with snacks and drinks and well as lots of interesting information about his boat and the harbor. It was a beautiful and memorable time that I would suggest to anyone visiting the area — I would definitely go again if I were in the area.

We were lucky enough to enjoy an afternoon on the beautiful of Phil. The is one of a kind and getting on it was clear to see this would be a magical sail. He’s restored the sail boat to the beautiful original state and the love and care is seen everywhere. Once we got out of the marina, the sails went up and Phil was nice enough to let me skipper for a bit. The sunset was magical and the host the best you can ask for. There are delicious snacks on board along with some good drinks. We learned a lot about the boat which we were curious about and got to enjoy a romantic get away in our backyard. I can’t wait to go back and bring my friends and family. Thanks Phil!!!

I signed up for this as soon as I heard about it! It was the best experience!!! The boat is unique and beautiful, Captain Phil is a top-​notch sailor and a great host and the sail route is perfect! I can’t say enough good things about this. My husband is an experienced sailor and he was impressed, too. We had perfect weather, a sunset and as we were returning, a breath-​taking view of the San Diego skyline all lit up. We are all looking forward to our next sail!

Five BIG stars for Sail Liberty!!! I went on a sail recently and was impressed from the moment I met Captain Phil. I could tell he cares about sailing and his customers. Such an upbeat happy person! The boat was amazing with its history and detail. We had fun in the harbor and even hit the ocean. Never felt rushed and learned some cool things on the voyage also. HATS OFF TO YOU CAPTAIN PHIL AND SAIL LIBERTY. YOU ARE A CLASSY DEAL AND YOU WILL SEE ME AGAIN. Thank you!

We went on a fairly last minute sunset tour with Captain Phil. The whole process was easy and stress free. The Everything was perfect. Captain Phil is friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. His friendship sloop is a charming boat and has a lot more character than your garden variety tour boat. I cannot recommend this highly enough and I will most definitely take another tour with Captain Phil the next time I am in San Diego.

I had a great time on the boat. Fantastic weather, fantastic boat and the most important… fantastic Capt. Phil. Next time I am San Diego with kids, I make sure to bring them on board.

Oh man, what a beautiful time on a Beautiful classic boat. There is nothing else like this anywhere on the West coast. Captain Phil took us out for a wonderful Sail. He did everything to make sure that everyone aboard felt comfortable, was safe and had a good time. Captain Phil, is an experienced captain and knows so many details of the harbor and the history of his boat. He has restored this boat to museum quality and every attention to detail was paid in both the boats construction and restoration. Liberty is a sea worthy and Salty boat, the kind of boat that was built to work rough waters in any condition. If you are thinking of sailing, a sail charter in San Diego, historical tour, whale watching, just being on the water, or having a good time in San Diego. If you want to throw a special party or have a little special event, make sure you get in touch with Sail Liberty. And I hope that you have the wonderful day that we did.

Such a great experience. My husband and I plus a few friends all had an amazing time. Great price, friendly captain, gorgeous sailboat and scenery! I would highly recommend this to everyone!

Not being much of a sailor, I was surprised by how much I liked the boat and the harbor tour. It was a smooth sailing day and we got to go right by the aircraft carriers and Seaport Village. The views of the city were amazing and we were able to move around the boat and take many amazing pictures of the city skyline and the sunset. Captain Phil and JJ were very friendly and I loved knowing that we were using a small local family business.

We took an amazingly great trip out on the bay on this beautiful sailboat. We had fantastic weather and a really great captain to take us out on the water and enjoy the beautiful downtown views. The boat is spacious and very clean. The crew was friendly and fun. The food was enjoyable and the sunset was great.
We motored out from Shelter Island and when the sails went up I was so impressed. It really is a beautiful boat to see. They have rebuilt this baby and boy does it shine! The mast is a solid tree with cool wooden rings that pull up the sails. Such a historic jewel! We have two young children that loved moving around on the spacious vessel. They watched all the birds flying around, and all the seals and dolphins swimming around.
