Recently moved into the neighborhood. So we ventured out for a walk with the doggy to check out a bar or two. After an Effin FAIL at Effins(they wouldn’t let us tie our dog up outside), my husband and I came upon this bar. Wow! What a pleasant surprise! Lots of beer on tap and really cheap domestic sprcials. Pool & darts. Didn’t look like they served food, but that’s fine with me — keep it simple. Talked with the bar tender who was super friendly and chill, turns out he was the owner, but just sold the bar. Let’s hope the new owner doesn’t make many changes. Why ruin a good thing?

NEVERJUDGE A BOOKBYITSCOVER!!! i love this bar. my favorite bar in San Diego by far. free pool, free darts, beer pong, best happy hour on fridays, jukebox, and its never full of idiots. only the best people on earth here. Cory and Jason are both awesome guys. the regulars like Reggie make McMurphys what it is. THEBESTBAR. this is not a fancy downtown im gonna wear a suit to a bar. this is the bar next to a tattoo shop where the bartender says hello when you walk in. i like em dirty, dark, cheap and full of good times. like my woma… i mean… err, uh… nevermind. they serve hot dogs sometimes which are delicious and they have a huge backyard to play beer pong and smoke your cigarettes. i wish bands would play there.(wink wink to ownership) if you come on the right night, its packed full of college kids having a fun time, or it could be completely empty and you could play all of the songs you want to hear on the jukebox and cry in happiness at how amazing this bar is. FRIDAYHAPPYHOURISINSANE!!! $ 1DOMESTICPINTS $ 4PITCHERS how ya gonna beat that??? im looking at you san diego… step up your happy hour game. if you want a swarm of people this is probably not the bar for you, but if you want a genuine bar with good people to have a conversation and watch the game, then alas, you have reached your destination.

Is this place even open? I went on a Saturday night at 7pm and there was no sign of life.

Never sure when the bar is open or closed. I’ve been there on Mondays when they are open and Saturdays when they are closed. Great beer selection but the free pool seems to attract a seedy element that I would rather not encounter when I am out drinking with my lady.

I love this bar!!! It’s my kind of place!!! until they cut off that country tune haha! Just kidding! Came here on a Friday night and there was not too many people but just the right amount for the size. They play hip hop/mix/a little country song from time to time. Pretty chill! Super cheap pitchers until 10 pm. 4 bucks!!! That’s right 4 bucks!!! Nice bartenders and great crowd of people here! You will know everyone by the end of the night and their life stories lol! Lots of fun, a bit of a hidden location but that’s what makes it special I guess :) if you like to play pool there is a table in the back and don’t worry about any cover charges here, free entry free fun and laughs! Only open late so don’t try to start happy hour too early!

I really wish this place served hard liquor. With that being said, this is the perfect place to just hang out with your closest buddies. Play the jukebox, play some pool, or request a table to play beer pong or flip cup.(In our case, cider pong) Actually, this place has the most delicious cider! It’s definitely a must-try.

McMurphy’s is a great little beer bar! Its right in the college area and has a great selection of beer! They have beer pong on the back patio and pool up front. They dont have food but you can order delivery from the Cheba Hut next door.

McMurph’s is a good place to chill on a Friday night. They have two pool tables inside, cheap pitchers, beer pong in the back, and good vibes. Everything is pretty clean, even the girls bathroom(which is rare for a bar). Get there early though because it gets pretty busy as the night progresses.

alright, so until about a month ago, i never knew this place existed. considering i go to SDSU and have friends who’ve literally lived just blocks away. for a dive randomly on el cajon blvd, i love this bar. free pool and a good selection of beer is all i need to be content in life. a friend and i meet up after work on fridays and usually have a beer or 2 and play a few games of pool to get the weekend started off right. the prices are perfect, $ 4 – 5 for a pint of good beer, a few Stones: 13th anny, IPA, Sublimely Self-Righteous, some other random locals and the regulars, Sierra Nevada, Stella, etc. also, on friday’s they have i think what was i told was $ 6 domestic pitchers, which is a steal if you are just planning on drinkin forever. they also have a patio and some makeshift beer pong tables, and from what i could tell they have weekly tournaments or something. either way, for a dive bar near state, i would much rather prefer this place to effins. GOGOGO.

Not bad been here a few times, plenty of beers on tap most in the area by far. Great selection of local beers on tap hey maybe get some Alpine Beers on tap? Just a suggestion. Big patio out back, inside has been redone nicely. Plus the prices are great…

Ok, I am writing this review to set something straight. I am the FIRST person that actually works at this bar that is writing a review on it. Let’s not get it twisted«Kolby». So… I work here and I am practically related to the owner so of course I got a little defensive with those two unsubstantiated reviews… but I’m over it. There are 30 beers on tap here and they love filling them with local brews. I’m willing to bet more then half of the beers on tap are not available at AM/PM. And I’m one of the biggest jerm-a-phobes out there and can guarantee we use all the required sanitizers. This place is no club, but offers a friendly inviting atmosphere where you can chill out and drink. Korey, the owner, did wonders to this space since buying it and he is continually working on ways to make it even better.

It’s nice to know that there are still SOME bars out there that act like they appreciate your business and treat you like a customer rather than an asshole who’s lucky to even be in there. there is nothing i hate worse than going into some«cool» bar with a bouncer who CAN’T WAIT to kick someone’s ass, a Bartender whose too busy«Vogue-ing» and chatting up some chick to serve anybody a drink, that«Apple Bottom Jeans» song on fucking repeat, and prices that make you feel like you’re springing for 230-packs every time you buy a beer. McMurphy’s is a family-run joint that shows you some respect while you are in there… actually, a better word for it is hospitality. Cory(owner) will pat you on the back and say hello, sarah(bartender) will serve you with a smile and ask you if you want something to munch on for free while you wait… i’ll take an all-beer dive bar like that on El Cajon blvd over some posh(faggy) club full of choak-stains in downtown or PBANYDAYOFTHEWEEK! if i’m shelling out $ 20 for a beer at a place full of neon lights and hiphop music, the LEAST they could do is act half as cool as the people from McMurphy’s.

I frequent the Murph as much as I can. Pros: Free pool, good beer selections, beer pong tables, and Darts. Cons: The jukebox is a little expensive, lots of Bros with flat brimmed new era hats, and chicks that are not hot enough to be bitches but still are. The clientele is better during the week and it’s less crowded if you enjoy a mellow atmosphere.

I love this place! McMurphy’s is a great place to just chill and relax. They offer a wide selection of beer… yummy…and wine. The owner is awesome and the bar tenders are extremely nice and fun! You can’t beat free pool everyday either!

I love this bar. I could go into a long drawn out explanation of exactly why. I could tell you about how the ridiculous group of people I hang out with and I have created a score of memories within the walls of this bar. I could tell you how I’ve been going there since the day it opened, and have a record of being there 4 times in 6 days(give or take). I could even tell you how it’s one of those«know your name» sort of establishments where the bar tenders(and the owner himself) are all warm, friendly, and genuine. Excluding ALL of that, McMurphy’s Pub is still a wonderful place to go. What’s your favorite beer? Odds are that McMurphy’s has it on tap, has had it on tap, or will have it on tap in the near future. What I like about Cory(the owner) is that he likes to try the beers he has on tap himself before leaving them there. Better than that even, if you tell him about a great beer he’s never heard of he’ll seek it out and try it himself. This bar also has a night for many a varying types of bar goer… Tough Monday at work and you want to go somewhere to unwind in peace? Go to McMurphy’s. Wednesday night and you and your buddies need to get some beer gaming done? Go to McMurphy’s for the beer pong tournament. Thursday night in the college area and you don’t want to drive all the way down town? Take a $ 5 Dollar cab to McMurphy’s and get a pitcher of Boddingtons English Pub Ale, just one of a few quality beers you won’t find on tap at other bars in the area. Don’t want to shell out a dollar for every game of pool? Head to McMurphy’s where you can play for free… every night. The bottom line is this, there’s only one place I’m talking about when i tell my friends«I’ll be at the bar.»

There used to be a TV show about a bar«where everyone knows your name.» Well, McMurphy’s is it’s real-life equivalent. My friends and I discovered it over this last summer, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more chill place to drink some varied beer and relax. The crowds are never too crazy(except on Wednesday Beer Pong nights, apparently), and there is plenty of room in the back to relax and talk with your friends. Pool is ALWAYSFREE, which is a great respite from paying ridiculous hourly rates at places like Q’s in L.A. And, unlike the other bars on El Cajon Blvd., the owners always greet you with warmth and a great attitude. They have plenty of great beers – now over thirty apparently – directly on tap at affordable prices, which is such a boon for college kids who want to drink something different than the standard Natty Light without dropping a ten spot for each freakin’ pint. It’s a good spot with great owners, great beer selection, and a chill atmosphere. If you want a party, figure out a way to drive down to PB and drink watered-down cocktails that empty your wallet. If you want good brew and good people, go to McMurphy’s.

Great hangout for students and people not looking for a lot of thrill. It is a basic bar, except no liqueur yet. Nice big patio were you can smoke ciggs and drink at the same time and the girls behind the bar are nice and friendly. THey had $ 1.00 drafts when I was in last Fri night and they are celebrating their one yr anniversary around Halloween time. Good as any bar on EL Cajon blvd.

Two stars for nice beer selection on tap. But I won’t be back. They don’t sanitize their glasses as required. They had sanitizer there, in case health department came by, but just washed and rinsed with dish soap. Disaster waiting to happen!
