I would give this place 2 stars because, well, I’ve literally experienced better, but the New York Bar plays some darn good music-lots of throwbacks! Aside from that, it really is a bar to just chill and hang with friends, which is why I came by-there were also a lot of people just sitting around talking with friends. I can’t imagine myself really going back for any reason aside from that. Didn’t pay for my drinks, so I can’t comment on the pricing. The vibe and look of the place was pretty cool though, I really liked the décor and the light up tables, very intimate and stufffffff. As other Unilocaler’s said in their reviews, if you’re in the area and want to grab a drink with some friends, check it out, but it’s not a place I would say you HAVE to check out.

First off the drinks here are expensive. I paid $ 4 for Michelob Ultra. This place has nothing to offer as they have no DJ and no cute bartenders. The blonde girl was especially rude to me even after I left a 20% tip, needless to say it was my first and last time there. Try Angry Elephant or Evil Olive if you are in the area but avoid this place!

Cool atmosphere from what I got to see, seemed like a good crowd. BUT they don’t take out of state ID’s? I’m a New Yorker here for work and got excited when I heard about New York bar, just for my boyfriend and I to be turned down because we had out of state ID’s. PS we both have NYID’s. I don’t get it :/

Not sure what it’s like when it’s prime time, but this place is cool. Clean, friendly service and the décor is inspired. We’ll be back.

I enjoyed myself; nothing spectacular. I had beer because for some reason I didn’t have faith in the bartenders mixing abilities. Bar service was really not that fast for how late we went and the amount of patrons that were there. I really like this set up inside. I am a New Yorker and the theme is pretty on point. Ultimately, I would return. Really chill environment but the staff will kick you out at exactly 2 a.m. At the end of the night the bartender literally(physically) took our beers out of our hands and told us we had to go. It was all jokes at the time but when I look back that’s pretty crappy customer service. Kind of tacky actually now that I’m thinking about it. Note: If the parking lot is full just park in the bank parking lot behind the building and you can walk through the alley.

I love this place. The bartenders are really nice and friendly. They are almost always playing great music, you can play darts, they’ve got TVs. They also do a service industry discount if you bring in your pay stub… which means $ 2 whiskey cokes sometimes! Always a great time to be had.

Ok, I have to drop my 5 star rating to 2 because of last night. My friend, her brother and I went to the bar last night to have few drinks before we head home. My friend’s brother have a out of country ID with no visible date of birth and the bartender told him that she can’t serve him which I understand. But then she said she isn’t suppose to serve me alcohol either because I have an out of state license, but I look old enough. I was like, what? Why? Even the Texas government thinks my California driver license is a valid ID and you don’t think I have a valid ID? Anyways, I got my drinks, Jack and Coke and it is more Coke and ice than Jack, so yeah, I didn’t enjoyed it either. My first time here was good, but last night left a bad taste in my mouth, so I think I will only come here if I’m in the neighborhood and maybe a different night.

Nice chill place, great seating, music and vibe, the one thing I did not like was the male bartenders would make you wait 10 – 15 mins for a drink while the stood there and talk to each other, female bartenders were great and pretty too!

I love the drink prices here! I like this place a lot better now that it is smoke free. The bartenders are really good and making drinks based on what you like. If I tell them I want something sweet or sour they give me suggestions and i’m never disappointed. Good for large groups.

This bar is kinda funny. It’s fun but nothing crazy or really exciting happens. There’s a juke box — no DJ. There’s an open area but no dance floor. There’s seating but obviously no VIP. It’s just kind of a hang out spot. It’s a place where friends come to chill and enjoy the ridiculously cheap drinks. I came with 2 of my guy friends once and we all got pretty tipsy(about 6 drinks each) for under $ 30!!! Amazing. So the pros… CHEAP drinks(you can;t even get a coke from the convenince store for this price!) You can control the music It’s a good hangout spot and everyone there is laid back and everyone talks to everyone(it’s not an uppity spot where eveyrone stands with their own clique) And the cons(dun, dun, duuuuuuuuun)… No dance floor Bartenders are kinda rude sometimes and I feel like they dont even want you there It’s a good place to just hang out though. Eveyrone should check it out at least once…

STAYAWAY!!! This bar is terrible. First you arrive and drive around looking for parking for a good half hour, when you finally make it inside you are more than ready for a drink, BUTWAIT first you must stand in line for a good half hour just to get one. COMPLETELY understaffed. It is a crowded mess of people bumping into you as you try to find a place to stand, and you will be standing the whole night because unless you get there at 8pm all the seats will be taken all night. Then on to the more important topic. the bartenders themselves… The first time i was there the female bartender who apparently is the head bartender or manager was in a fight with 3 female customers in the womans bathroom. She did not hold herself to the standards a manager should while arguing with these girls about a spilt drink. I was not in this argument so i just assumed these girls were just drunk and being silly. I got drug back there another night and i was trying to close out my tab and i told the same woman bartender i needed to close my tab… she searched for a second and then stopped and resumed making drinks. She then straight up ignored me for 45 minutes!!! Calmly i decided to get another bartenders attention and see if he was more responsive she oveheard me asking him to close my tab and yelled at me «You opened your tab with someone else!!» Well i was unaware you had to close you tab with the same person you opened it with but regardless i still need to close my tab. So instead of pleasantly finding the bardender i opened with continued to ignore me. I got ahold of the right bartender who was very nice and responsive but all 3 bartenders MINUS the original rude one frantically searched for my card which obviously they had given to someone else! They comped my tab which was nice of them but principle of the matter is they lost my card and the MANAGER/HEAD BARTENDER was completely rude and unaccomidating. Also, both of the nights i went were filled with indoor and outdoor drunken fights. Not classy! So all in all if you are trying to have a good fun night in san antonio STEERCLEAR of this terrible terrible bar!!!

You know this place is funny. Every time I go to San Antonio, my friends want us all to go to New York bar. I never ever want to go. But it seems every time we go, and hour into drinking and mingling I end up meeting some awsome people, and having a great time. The drink prices are fare. The atmosphere is a mixture of friendly texans and stuck up rich people. But we all seem to coexist. I have never been to New York, but I would imagine its a little different. The bar itslelf is fancy but its the people that arent what I would consider«New York.» There is a bouncer waiting at the front usually and they do a good job at keeping out minors and people that should just go home. The bartenders are amazing. I never have a problem getting a drink. Definetly a fun place to try.

What is the deal with San Antonio and strip mall centers? It seems like such an unlikely place to find fun, yet it happens all the time here. I went to New York Bar with a friend who was in town visiting and had no desire to do the usual trip to a dancehall in cowboy boots that I would normally do for a tourist. Plus, it is close to my house so that made getting there and getting home a quick easy cab ride away. We walked in and the door guy was fun and telling silly jokes but he had a hard time accepting my friend’s out of town ID. It was annoying but I’m not sure I can even blame him because that seems to be a recurrent theme since I’ve moved here — Texan bars don’t like to accept out of town IDs. He finally decided friend’s ID was valid and we made our way over to the bar. It’s a cool«loungey» space, decorated in a very clean and contemporary style. This is the type of bar where you go to hang out and drink sitting on comfy couches, there wasn’t even much space to dance. The problem was the place was dead. I mean it was just us and the bartenders. The only cool thing about that was that there was absolutely no wait for a drink and we got awesome service and the drinks were really cheap — they had a $ 2 well drink special going on. I saw a lot of potential for a fun night. The music(because they have a jukebox and we selected two hours of tunes) was all our favorites and it wasn’t so loud we couldn’t hear each other. The drinks were cheap and the bartenders were cool and making us laugh. Plus, we were already committed to stay there without a car. There really aren’t any other bars close by, so I decided calling everyone I know in the city of San Antonio to join us would be the ideal route to getting a party started in there. Within a short while and with the addition of more people, New York Bar started to become more fun. Extra people meant less attention from the bartenders though and we had to wait a long time for those cheap drinks, but at least we had a crowd to watch. Meh, you win some you lose some…

Not a bad place. Close to where I live so I’ve visited it a few times. Assuming this place is owned by the same people who operate Chicago, Boston bar etc. It’s biggest selling point is the dirt cheap drinks. You can go in and expect good strong drinks for a reasonable price without breaking the bank. Decent bartenders, gets pretty crowded on the weekends, decent crowd on the weekdays. Most of the crowd is from 25 – 35 and you run into the usual Affliction wearing dude bras. Biggest drawback is the amount of smoke and poor ventilation which seems to be a problem in most San Antonio bars. Don’t go here if you want to go home smelling like a cheap cigarette and like washing your sheets the next day. Decent place to visit for some cheap drinks!

Maybe it’s because I’m actually a New Yorker but I had so much hope for this bar. Bartenders can only make one drink at a time. That’s cool and all, just make them a little faster please. You have a bar full of patrons. To the owners, don’t hire people who just graduated from 1−800-Bar-Tend. Drinks were really watery but you get what you pay for. The patrons… well, it felt nice to be the hottest girl in the bar for once(or at least the only one under 300 pounds). Ladies, just because you have large breasts doesn’t mean you have to let them hang out. We know you have big boobs. We can tell even if you wear a non-mesh top. PS– Please look up the term«muffin top» and«camel toe». The biggest disappointment was when the bouncer looked at my ID and said«since you’re from out of town, you should carry your passport when you travel.» Umm, what? I know that Texas is like it’s own country but you do not carry that type of ID with you to a bar! What makes it a little more funny is the fact that it was a New York driver’s license. You really mean to tell me that New York Bar doesn’t know what a New York ID even looks like? And as a bouncer of a bar, you should know how to identify a fake/real ID(watermarks, bar codes, holograms, etc etc). Even retailers know how to tell a fake ID from a real one. Guess you’re not even fit to work the register at a Wal-Mart. Hope you’re doing well at DeVry University.

the only problem with this place is that it’s kind of out of the way. other then that the bar is great. the music is a little crazy just in tar it’s all over the place because they have a jukebox. the drinks are crazy cheap. when I went I drank up the crown and coke whic was in special for $ 1.50! the bat I pretty big. I went on a Saturday night and it was crowded but not that bad. there are great tables and couches around but if it’s crowded it’s hard to find those. I would definitely come here mote if it was closer but I’ll settle for coming every now and then. when my car allows it.

Came here on a Friday night, and the doorman-bouncer was really cool and not at all a meathead with a power trip like others can be. So, we walked in and the first thing I notice is all the muscley guys with the faux hawks. Sausage fest central. Painted to look like New York with the Brooklyn Bridge on one side and high ceilings, the bar is in the center of it all. There’s a staircase leading to the VIP area, and you can definitely tell this is a newer bar. The patrons were mostly in their 30s, dressed relatively nicely. I saw one of the most interesting things I’ve ever seen here. I use the word interesting loosely. One guy(not a cute one) was kissing four girls(also not cute) at the same time. Sort of like a triple kiss, but since there were five people more of a penta-kiss. Real classy. Drink specials were decent, nothing outrageous. We didn’t stay for too long after the kissing fiasco.
