Went here for lunch one day– snobby waiters, decent Belgian food, hipster spot. Definitely a must try but also not the best spot in town.

Wow. What a gem! Was able to walk in on a Thursday night to this restaurant. and was surprised by one of the best meals I have had while in Texas. Mussels mussels mussels. Must try! I tried the pesto muscles. I literally wanted to drink this sauce. My date had some mussels with a tomato based sauced. He raved about these. If I were in San Antonio longer, I would 100% come back here, purely for the mussels. I also had the Steak Au Poivre. It was tender, flavorful, and cooked to a perfect medium rare. Awesome wait staff. The décor was easy on the eyes. Overall great experience here. Will recommend to everyone who comes to San Antonio. You won’t be disappointed.

We came here on a tuesday night. We had two appetizers, a seafood crêpe & the escargot. They were both delicious. You can make the seafood crêpe as your entrée. It Is a fulfilling dish alone. I really love the escargots. I wish they would put more escargot in it though. My entrée was the mussels with chorizo, smoked paprika, chili, white whine, & red pepper. This was very delicious. It has a combination of smokiness, slight spiciness, & the hint of white wine in the background. If I had a bigger stomach I would have eaten all of it. My partner had the seafood puff pastry. This was very delicious too. This is almost similar to the seafood crêpe. Last we had two desserts. The chocolate mouse top with red & blk raspberries & the pear crêpe top with chocolate and caramel. Both were both deeelicious. The service was also great. The employees seem to work in teamwork. We had different employees brought what we need and didn’t wait too long. I highly recommend this restaurant.

2ND Visit: Just as great! WoW! I must go place to eat. 1ST Visit: WoW! The muscles were amazing and according to the owner we didn’t even make the top three! The main dish was awesome! we had duck and puffy pastry with seafood! No room for desert. Will bookmark this restaurant for next trip!

Amazing! We went tonight with a party of 20 people. The food was authentic, well-prepared, and used quality ingredients. Service was relaxed yet excellent, we never had to search for a server. We have traveled to Belgium and the restaurant evokes a very similar feel to a real Belgian bistro… Wine list is not too flashy but features good pairings at various price points. Can’t say enough positive things about La Frite — we will be back!

Great restaurant in thriving King Williams neighborhood. They specialize in mussels with about 8 different sauces to choose from. The steak frites were wonderful and the black drum was one of the best fish dishes I’ve had in awhile. This has been my best dining experience so far in San Antonio. Check it out!

I was so excited when I finally went to eat dinner at La Frite! I really wanted to like this place because I would pass by it every time I am in Southtown and thought it was such a cute place. I got all dressed up and had really high hopes but was pretty disappointed by both the food and the service. Like a lot of other people have said, the service is slow and the server rarely comes back to your table for anything. We got some cold bread with little butter packets that looked and tasted just like the sliced french bread from HEB. My date and I both ordered the soup of the day but I only got mine. He didn’t get a chance to ask if his was coming or not because the girl rushed off as soon as she left the plate on the table. I will say the potato soup was really really good, but my date never got his soup. We didn’t see the server again until we got our food, which we waited a long while for, so by that time he was over the soup. The fish I ordered was good but the side vegetables were just there and nothing special. I seriously wouldn’t be able to tell my plate from what you would get at Luby’s aside from the price. For dessert we ordered the crème brûlée, which was perfect. Definitely get dessert if and when you go. The soup and dessert are the only reason I didn’t give it 2 stars. Also I want to think that maybe it was just a bad night and that I should give it another try.

I was very excited to come here, French food is my jam! Walking in, you’ll see cute little tables with white tablecloths and tea light candles. It’s a nice atmosphere for a date! The server was very friendly and helpful. She offered the specials of the day and explained the menu thoroughly, which I appreciate. We started off with escargot and crabmeat crepes. Escargot was covered in a garlic herb butter sauce and perfectly tender. Yum-o! The crabmeat crepes came with a delicious creamy sauce which I enjoyed very much! It’s a bit heavy if you prefer lighter choices but my friends and I found it perfection. I went with the Vol au vent fruits de mer for my entrée. Awesome decision on my part. It comes with a puff pastry, green salad, and seafood. The fish was perfectly cooked and I loved the creamy white sauce(possibly a similar sauce to the crabmeat crepes). There was salmon, shrimp, mussels, and a white fish, perhaps, mahi-mahi? The puff pastry was flaky and soft. And the green salad had a delicious dressing as well. Both my friends also enjoyed their meals. Would definitely recommend this place!

Delicious Belgian and Persian food. This place is fancy/swanky in a way that makes you feel like a total food champ. And though the neighborhood/area has a preponderance of good Tex-Mex places, there are precious few restaurants where you can get a steak tartar with a side of escargot. That being said, I have had better steak tartar and better escargot. So this place gets an A for effort but a b for the quality of the food. Overall it is still a great place. So whether your boss is taking your lab/office out to dinner or you have a hot date to impress, give serious thought to giving this place a whirl.

Je né sais qui — a pleasant quality that is hard to describe. But let’s try… La frite is quaint, romantic, and the best place to bring your boo, or good friends from our town. We started with the escargot bourguignon and the crab meat crepes. The escargot was tasty but the crab meat crepes were the star of the appetizers. I had the steak frites and was very impressed with how perfectly the steak was cooked to medium rare perfection.

The food and service is right on point. Pretty much your classic Belgian French Style Bistro. It is a great break from the the Tex-mex and mediocre restaurants in SATX. I am in town several times a year for conferences and this is a place I will go to for a nice meal. It’s in a great neighborhood that is not too far from the convention center to walk(15 minutes) or plenty of off street parking in the area. My only complaint is the place is very small and it gets very loud. You can hear everyones conversations at every table around you and when people are laughing it can be overwhelming… Other than that this a great place for a great meal.

I came to La Frite last night, as they were participating in Restaurant Week and my boyfriend and I wanted to take part in the three course meal they were offering. Unfortunately, the starter I wanted was not available so we opted for ordering regular menu items. We got the beef bourguignon and the duck with berry demi glaze. The wine in the beef bourguignon was very strong, which I didn’t like, but my boyfriend loved it. I ate the duck with polenta and was impressed! The service was great. The waiter was perfectly attentive in that he was always available when we needed something but didn’t hover or overdo it. The environment was cute, but somewhat loud. Luckily there is a wall basically cutting the restaurant in half, which helps in limiting the noise. The only part I can call a real disappointment was the desserts. We ordered chocolate mousse and a pear crêpe. The crêpe was dry and lacking flavor; I love pears and I love crepes so I expected more out of it. The chocolate mousse had a strong alcohol flavor and aside from that it just wasn’t anything special. Overall, I recommend giving it a try!

I wanted to like this place more after having heard so many good things about it. Food was good. Some of the food was great and some of it was just ok. The chicken pastry was good but the vegetables they put on the side look like sad, cafeteria veggies. Hubby enjoyed his mussels. And the sundried tomato tart for an appetizer was my favorite thing we ate the whole night. So good! I think what turned me off to the place was the food took FOREVER! I watched a table of 8 and a table of 2 all get their food promptly while we sat there with empty glasses of water. When we asked about it, the waiter was full of excuses and never apologized. Told us the kitchen was very busy. We ordered a cheese plate for crying out loud! How long does it take to toast some bread and break off chunks of cheese? The cheese wasn’t even sliced all pretty so it wouldn’t have taken any time to assemble. The food continued to come out extremely slow even after everyone in the restaurant left. Not sure what gives. The couple that got their food very promptly arrived well after us and left well before us.

I adore this place. The food is so reminiscent of Brussels. Delightful bright salads, particularly the house salad and endive salad. Great wine list. Vol au Vent with either seafood or chicken is creamy and decadent with puff pastry. My favorite was the duck breast, rare, tender, slightly sweet and well balanced. Excellent baguettes, intimate ambiance, attentive service. Recommended.

Amazing, amazing mussels! That’s the first thing I have to say. You can’t come here and not order the mussels. We have had the basil pesto and thai mussels, they are both unique and extremely delicious. The sauce is just addicting! The service however can get pretty slow. Both times we have been here, the place has been packed. Be prepared for some screaming competition. 2 for 2 now that we left with our ears ringing from our«neighbors’ conversation». Their food is well prepared and executed, but the flavor is not exactly my cup of tea. We ordered the steak hanger and the duck the first time. They were good but needed more seasoning so it seemed. However, we couldn’t get the mussels out of our heads, and had to come back just for the mussels.

OMGee! Could I love this place anymore? Actually I think I could. If they sold my favorite Belgian beer«Kasteel Rouge», that would put it over the top for me! Everything from the décor, to the ambiance, the service, and the food was exceptional! Even though this is a Bistro, the atmosphere still feels very elegant, with low lighting and intimate. Tables are close enough to where you can be involved in your neighbors conversations. If you decide to go for dinner, this place is definitely romantic enough for date night! For an appetizer I ordered the Escargots Bourguignon, and for my entrée I had the small Pesto Moules with a side of Frites. Everything was super delicious as expected. I’m excited to find a restaurant in the SA area that knows how to make good escargots! I love escargot, but unfortunately not every restaurant prepares it properly. My husband opted for the Prix Fixe menu which is a 3-course meal for $ 39. This menu changes nightly. He had a savory tart for an appetizer, lamp chops with au gratin potatoes for an entrée, and chocolate mousse for dessert. I tasted everything he had and they were all amazing as well. I think the au gratin potatoes were some of the best I’ve ever tasted. Definitely give this place a try, you will not be disappointed! I can honestly say La Frite is on the top of my list for favorite restaurants. Can’t wait for our next visit!

Oh la frite. All those Friday nights I spent getting messy shelling mussels and slurping broth. If you come here, you must get the mussels! Any of the flavors is a great choice but make sure you get them! The fries are also good but they are not as crispy as I like. I almost never finish them simply because I’ve filled up on mussels. I also tried monkfish for the first time here. It was chewy but the flavor was nice(because of all the butter it swam in). To finish off your meal, get a Belgian waffle. It’s crispy and delicious. I think it was the best waffle I’ve ever had. Service is spectacular! The waiters are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I think they are the nicest waiters of any French restaurant I have ever been to. The ambience is nice. A cute place for your first or 50th date. Overall a charming restaurant with awesome food and great service. I recommend this to everyone asking for French food in San Antonio.

FABULOUS. pro-tip: make reservations because this place gets very busy! among our table of 5, we tried the duck breast(~$ 20) served with vegetables and what tasted like polenta mashed potatoes, hangar steak($ 21) served with fries and vegetables, crab crêpe($ 13) served with a side salad, mussels($ 12), and seafood puff pastry($ 19) served with vegetables. we also got a side of fries($ 5) which comes with this amazing parsley lemon garlic aioli sauce. everything was absolutely delicious. seriously, everything! my personal favorite dish though was the crab crêpe just because of how unique it tasted. the food came out relatively quickly. and the service was very friendly. they were quick to refill our waters and clear our dishes. would definitely come here again! highly recommend

This is the best place I’ve ever eaten in San Antonio. Fully deserving of 5 stars. The escargot was life changing. The salmon was the best I can remember having. The outside was crisp, and this inside was juicy and tender. The frite’s where good, but everything else on the menu made these a minor part of the whole experience. Next time I’m in San Antonio I will be eating here again.

Slid in here for an early dinner with a colleague. Cute little bistro with friendly, knowledgable staff. Escargot was great. The crab crêpe was also great. I tried to duck too. Really good. I ordered wine but wish I had tried thier array of Belgian beer. The desserts were unremarkable however. Skip the dessert and order more beer.
