Very similar to other bbq restaurants in the area in terms of appearance and setting. Our server(Marcy, I think) was so nice and accommodating to our dietary needs. The wait for our food was minimal and everything looked and tasted fresh. The brisket was moist and tender and well portioned. The sausage had fantastic«snap», was well seasoned and served as a link, not pre sliced. The green beans are so good! Really flavorful well suited to the meats. The Coke slaw is good and provides the often needed cut to the flavor a of bbq. The spicy sauce is legit spicy. Made with Thai chiles it is dark red with visible seeds and very good. The regular sauce is top notch as well. My kids loved their meals and by the way, the fries are really good. Drinks are big enough to not require refills. They also have a 10% military discount. We will be back!

Prices — okay not great Food — okay not great Service — okay not great It’s a near place to visit just to say you have been there, but overall it doesn’t necessarily warrant a return visit.

First visit and last. Food is way over priced, small portions and everything was cold. Our first waitress didn’t come back with answers to our questions. It was like she purposely avoided us. Very disapponted

today my wife is suffering from food poisoning, after eating one bite from a piece of Talipia that was spoiled rotten. The chicken fried steak I ate was cold and the gravy was lumpy and hard. This place needs to be shut down.

Great bbq and they have a really spicy Thai sauce. Same owners as tongs thai next door. The time I went, which was a couple weeks ago, I had very friendly service and the quality of the food was really good. The only thing was cleanliness. I would’ve liked it to be a little bit cleaner and maybe more servers walking around. All in all it was a good experience and I would recommend going.

This place is amazing, I was in town and I happened to see the restaurant advertised on food network. So my family of 8 came and from there the lunch just got better and better. We got the blooming onion what an amazing work of art and so incredible in flavor. I got the brisket sandwich with double brisket, the smoke was rich in the meat and the overall flavor after one bite I said to myself the next time I’m in San Antonio I will have to make time to eat here again. This place is a must to return to!!!

What a disaster. I’ve been Unilocaling since 2008. Look at my previous reviews. I don’t bash just to bash but I had an awful experience here last night. My girlfriend and I showed up at 7pm last night which was a Friday. The place was dead with only one other table having been sat. We were seated fairly quickly and were given menus and asked what we’d like to drink. That’s where the good ends. As I reviewed the menu I notice the prices were outrageous! Considering this is an old school dive I’d never expect to see a burger without fries cost $ 12.99. Despite the fact that the prices are appalling given what the restaurants overall vibe we reluctantly placed our orders. The girl got the Thai Spice burger and I ordered a Brisket sandwich since the BBQ plates only come with certain sides which do not include Mac and cheese or mashed potatoes. I do not like cole slaw or potato salad so I saw no point in getting a BBQ plate where I’d be paying more money for sides that should be included with their plates. Beans and fries were the only sides left and didn’t appeal to me. Once the order was placed which was at 7:09 we waited… and waited… and waited. In fact shortly after we showed up at 7 a few different groups of people trickled in after us. These tables were somehow served food before us. At 7:45 the waitress told us our food was still being worked on. At this point I looked at my girlfriend and we decided to no longer wait. We gave this establishment nearly 40 mins to cook our order and it never came. I have no idea what happened and no explanation was given. We told the waitress to cancel the order and we had a lovely dinner else where. This place was a huge disappointment. FYI the prices on here are totally inaccurate. This is not an under $ 10 place. It’s more like under $ 20 per person. I’m all for supporting small businesses but I have a feeling this place is riding on the coattails of their Food Network special. I won’t be back.

First visit. Now much to look at but food is good. Hamburgers are huge and fresh buns. Chechens wings were crispy and very tasty. The ff were very good, but onion rings were soggy and not good. Over all good. Was not to please with rest rooms very dirty. Mold growing along baseboards. Tried not to think about id this might be in kitchen. Was there at 11:45 and is was a packed house so apparently most think it’s great! If you like whole in wall type of place I would recommend.

Great service and food seems to be on par. I think the burgers here are the best.

The food was nothing special. The best thing I had was the bread they used for my chicken sandwich. The chicken breast had a nice seasoning to it but it was so small and thin. Neither my husband or I liked the onion rings but the fries were ok. Someone seriously needs to work on new menus, not to mention they were so dirty and sticky. I expected so much more from you Bun and Barrel. :(

I had the sliced BBQ brisket sandwich and onion rings. Both were really good. I took a star off because our waitress forgot about us and left us sitting to pay for quite a while. I eventually had to flag someone else down. I would definitely go back because of the good food though.

This place never disappoints. The food is absolutely amazing. Savory, spicy, sweet, and traditional are some of the flavors you can expect to have here at Bun n Barrel. Their vanilla shake is so, so good!!! It’s definitely got the classic taste you look for when you drink one of these. Spicy Thai burger is no joke. But!!! It is absolutely delicious. It’s a must try if you’re up for the challenge. Carlos Angus Burger is so good. The burger just melts in your mouth. Their classic twisted buns that they make here in house are very good! Fries and onion rings are super good, too! Trust me; you can’t go wrong with this mom and pop shop. You’ve gotta come try!

I had the two meat plate(brisket and sausage) with slaw and potato salad. The sausage was the best part of the meal. The brisket was dry, had no pull, no smoke ring, and honestly tasted(and had the texture) like it was reheated. The slaw was a regular slaw and was acceptable. The potato salad was not my taste(lots of celery seed and pickle flavor) but I know that is others taste. My husband had a two meat sandwich(brisket and sausage). The best part of it was the bun. He said the same thing about the brisket with a tough texture, dry and tasted reheated. The place was clean and the service was perfectly acceptable. We will not be returning though and after the hype we had read online were ultimately disappointed.

Great burgers and guy from the diners drive-ins and dives was here! Huge burgers, huge drinks. Fast food. Friendly service. Delicious food. Recommend it to anyone. It’s not super expensive. Actually it’s a really great price! Get in here for lunch or dinner!

I came here for lunch with a coworker. I was debating between Spicy Thai burger and Brisket, seems like brisket didn’t get too much of good reviews, so I got the Thai burger instead(the waiter asked me if I can handle spicy, I kind laughed and thought he was joking, but he was serious). Any hoo, the burger was out in 10 mins, it was big in size and the buns are really good. Although it is not too spicy for me, I can eat morning toast with Tabasco, but I can see why someone complains about the level of spicy, because I did sweat a little. Even though it is spicy, but I can still taste the patty and it isn’t too greasy nor dry, it was done to my liking. The service is really good, the waiter kept refill my diet coke without asking. Overall, a great experience and a good burger.

Yes, my friends and I heard about this place on TV too lol We were in town for PAX South 2015 all the way from California and we decided to stop by. The exterior is OK. Not too memorable. Inside is cozy and feels appropriate. We were not greeted upon arrival but luckily we were seated promptly. Our server, after taking a look at our group of 6, didn’t seem too happy. Had a «fuck, I have to do work?» Look on his face and sure enough, he was not interested at all in us as customers. Was very rude and every time we asked him a question he gave us that«really? You don’t know?» look. Made no effort in engaging with us, just took orders and brought the food. But he seemed quite chipper with other tables. Besides the lousy service, the food is not bad. Their sauces are quite flavorful and their brisket sandwiches are great! The other items are just OK. Almost felt like the restaurant on the Food Network and this one are two completely different locations.

My daughter(11) and I both ordered the Spicy Thai Burger. It was one of the best burgers we’ve ever experienced. That said, it was spicy. Sometimes food is too rich to eat too much, this wasn’t too spicy, but a better plan would have been for us to get a spicy thai burger and cut it in quarters, and also ordered other items. My son loved his burger too. My wife enjoyed but didn’t love her brisket. The Spicy Thai Burger is something that should be experienced as it is outstanding, that said, I think I would have enjoyed ¼ to ½ of it just as much as the whole burger. So if you go with a group, that might a great way to experience the incredible Spicy Thai Burger.
