I was vacationing in Utah from Florida and was told by some locals that Black Sheep Wool Co. was the best yarn shop in the area. Unfortunately I did not get the wonderful customer experience that previous Unilocalers have described. They do have some nicer yarn brands, but not nearly the selection that I was used to at my local store or expecting in a state where knitting is more popular than Florida. I bought five skeins of yarn. The first skein broke on the swift because she was winding it too aggressively for such a delicate yarn. The second fell off the swift about ¾ of the way through winding because she didn’t have the swift tight enough, so she handed me the ball of yarn in a giant tangled mess in the end… both skeins she should have just replaced if she had any customer service skills. I also asked her a few questions about techniques and she didn’t seem to be as knowledgeable as she should be to own or be working in a knitting store. My review would be a one star, except I was told that they have general help sessions that are free, which is great. My local store in Florida charges $ 5 – 10 for the help session if you need assistance.

Fantastic staff, excellent selection and I walked out $ 125 poorer but WELL worth it!!! :) I am visiting from out of state and I found the prices here to be less expensive than what I pay at home. I will absolutely be back next time I am in SLC!!!

This is my first yarn shop. I don’t get over there very often, but it was the first yarn shop I went to when I was new to knitting. The people are friendly and knowledgable and the yarn selection is pretty good. You won’t find cheap yarn and supplies here, though. If you’re looking for your grandma’s Red Heart acrylic, go to one of the big box craft stores(and yes, there is a place for Red Heart acrylic and big box craft stores). If you’re wanting to splurge or get ideas, go to this terrific little shop.

Black Sheep Wool Company is the place to go if you are stumped on a knitting project. They have phenomenal knitters working there, all willing to help. They even have a special time set aside to come in for help on projects. The time changes from time to time, so do call and check. The shop has a wonderful array of Shetland wool, the best in the state. Good selection of yarns appropriate for baby knitting. Full array of mainstream worsted wool. If you are confused on what gauge fiber to buy, what would work best on a project, etc., the advice you get here cannot be beat. Excellent classes offered. Delightful surroundings.

For 3 years Black Sheep Wool Co. was my local yarn store and one I frequented often. Sadly, I don’t live in the area anymore but I do come and shop when I am visiting. Black Sheep has a wide selection and large inventory of yarn. I can always find yarn to work for any project I need. They have also been very patient and helpful with my indecisive self while I am choosing the right yarn for a project. Don’t be scared or intimidated – just ask for help if you are new to knitting or have questions about yarn substitution or patterns. Also, a wide varitey of classes are offered and are worth looking at if you are interested in learn a new skill or to widen your knitterly horizons.
