Dental Designs

This is a public service announcement — don’t get sucked into the cheap iSmile plan a previous reviewer mentioned and start going here. Every 6 months when I went in they found five new cavities that needed to be filled «immediately» despite my financial situation (no dental insurance) and stated personal conservative approach to treatment. They also recommended I get braces on repeat every single visit despite me telling them that I had no interest on the very first visit.
After my third such appointment here, I decided to seek out a second opinion and it turns out none of my 5 new «cavities» needed to be filled at all! In fact, my new dentist only saw 2 that needed to be watched (not filled) and the other three were basically non-​existent.
I have a zero-​tolerance policy for dishonesty, especially in the dental profession when there is so much asymmetric information between patient and provider. It’s horrible that they attempt to use their expertise to take financial advantage of patients by over-​treating, especially those paying out of pocket. I highly recommend you stay away or at least get a second opinion before undertaking any expensive procedures here.

The best dental experience of my life! Becky, dental hygienist, is patient and extremely good at not only cleaning but educating patients on the ‘why’s and how’s’ of proper dental maintenance I can do at home in-​between cleanings. She is AMAZING! Dr Johnson delivers honest, thorough, research driven answers to questions. He offered such a wealth of information that I feel I know more about my teeth and how to care for them than ever before. This is a place I actually look forward to visiting– even if I have a cavity :)

Lets start with the good news. These guys offer probably one of the best deals for an exam and cleaning in SLC. I shopped around and did not find anyone that came close to their deal of two cleanings, exam and x rays for less than $ 100. I believe they offer this cheap exam and cleaning as a loss leader and then nail you with a large price to fill cavities. That being said they did a good job with the cleaning and exam. Nice office space as well.
What annoyed me the most about Dental Designs was the terrible scheduling. I scheduled my original appointment only to have them call and move the appointment because they were running behind. Ok no big deal lets schedule it for a few days out so we wont have anymore problems. I didn’t expect to get several more calls from them trying to squeeze me into their gaps in scheduling because they had cancellations.
I also felt more like a number than a patient/​client. They break down the process into stations and it feels like you are being herded through some sort of factory farming process; receptionist, cleaning, more cleaning, and then the doctor. Once I got to see the doctor he moved the chair up and down and smiled at me. I am twenty nine years old not five. What I am trying to say is I didn’t feel the personal attention I have gotten at other doctors offices and it was not the most professional.
Overall I had three cavities and it was going to cost around $ 470 to fix them. I scheduled only to cancel two days later when I found a better deal. My new dentist recommended only filling on of the three cavities for a much cheaper price and I felt like a patient and not just another number. In summation I would recommend them for the cleaning and exams because of the price but would not have anything else done here. Drill, fill, and bill. I also had a friend that had a filling fall out that was done at this office. A new website wouldn’t hurt.

Go here. The office is very upscale Utah – happy receptionists, granite-​tiled walls, and inspirational quotes about teeth vinyled to the walls in Papyrus font.
My hygienist was no-​nonsense and knowledgeable. And Dr. Clifford – what a love. I had cavities, jaw-​clicking, and various pains from previous fillings, and my complaints were taken seriously and handled professionally. Parking is plentiful. Your teeth will be happy if you let these people work on them.
