I was so sad to see this place close. Idk what happened, loss of lease, loss of interest, idk. But where else can I go and get a gyro with a bowl of Phở? And both were sooooo tasty! Hope they reopen someplace else soon!

As of March 2014 this business has closed, rather unexpectedly actually. I ate lunch here every week for 3 years. No one told me they were closing until I ordered lunch and the number was disconnected. Sad

Hands down my favorite breakfast sandwich! Sausage egg and cheese on a croissant and if your nice they might make it for you even if it isn’t breakfast time. Love love love it

Ooh La-La Café Au Lait! I have only good things to say: They are always smiling when I come in, they are eager to help and get to know you. Whenever I come in by myself or with my doggy I end up gabbing with the counter ladies for way too long. Stacy is really sweet and helpful, I found out today we have the same home town lol. I have had the Gyros, as well as breakfast, and lunch sandwiches from here. all have been really good and inexpensive. The Chicken Gyros weren’t my favorite, I prefer the other. Taziki is really good. They have good coffee too, some Saturday mornings I like to come and have a breakfast sammy w a coffee and sit outside with my pooch.

Great prices for freshly made sandwiches. salads and wonderful Phở soup! I’ve been a fan since I lived around the corner, and now stop whenever I’m in midtown. Nice folks run it and I’m so happy they survived the recession, since they are a little guy in the sea of coffee houses. Itslkind of a dive with a «celestial» theme; somehow it work’s Good job!

this place is fine. nothing spectacular. but if you want to grab a sandwich of some variety on your way somewhere, I’d say yes. the interior could use a real going over, however. it has the odd combination of being strangely quiet and having little privacy, but they make a decent falafel. it beats the quotidian subway sandwich across the street.

Café Au Lait has been a favorite of mine for a few years now! My absolute favorite items are the Gyro Salad and Gyro plate. The meat is cooked perfectly and tzatiki sauce is also delicious. The only thing that can improve is that sometimes their pita bread is hard, but it still doesn’t stop me from visiting them. The prices are reasonable and the staff is always waiting with a smile!

There are no coffee/espresso drinks to be had here — misleading business name. Sandwich I had was meh. Maybe the gyros are good, they seem to get good reviews. Dont think I’ll return… menu is a yawn, food no better than you’d get at a golf course snack shop, and the place is just kind of depressing.

Best gyro salads I’m town. Perfect grab for lunch. You can even call on your order ahead of time.

I come here for the gyros. Can’t really say much about the other food, but the gyros are really good. I tried the chicken phở based on a recommendation from a former co-worker, unfortunately it was a little disappointing. It wasn’t bad soup, but it couldn’t really compare to phở at a legit phở place.

After reading the reviews, I couldn’t pass this place up. Our office consists of about 15 people with different orders so when I heard this was a small mom&pop place, I called a couple of days before we wanted to order from them to make sure they could handle 15 lunch orders. The lady(I am assuming the owner?) answered and asked if we could send her our orders the day before so she could prepare. We had no problem with that so we did as told and the next day we called to confirm the order and they were working on it. Our assistant picked it up so I did not see the inside of the place, but when it got back to the office, everyone’s order was correct and… DELICIOUS! Now. I have had a lot of sandwiches in my lifetime, so my bar is set pretty high. While they weren’t as big as I was hoping(I am always hungry by lunch time!) they were pretty tasty. Fresh bread and fresh ingredients. Everyone else was in consensus at the office as well. And it gets better. I know! The prices are SUPER affordable — I mean I think it averaged to like under $ 6.00/person which is hard to do for a big office with separate orders(not one large catering order). We will be ordering from there continually in the future!

This is one of those nice Mom and Pop cafes that do it all; coffee, salads, breakfast burritos, gyros, homemade sandwiches and even phở! I used to come here quite often, when I lived a few blocks away, for fresh roast beef sandwiches on sourdough. Now whenever I stop in, I can’t pass up the gyro. The meat isn’t shaved off right there like at most other places but the flavor is still there, and the produce they use is always dark and fresh. Aside from the good eats and drinks, nobody can help but notice how friendly the staff is here; I feel good supporting them. Check them out if you haven’t already!

Great location, nice people and a gyro that is great. I was a little worried about ordering a gyro at a sandwich shop, but I was wrong. About as good as you could get in Sacramento. The sandwiches are also pretty good and they have lunch meals too that are pretty reasonably priced. If you’re bored you can also get a tattoo right around the corner. PS Free wifi at the café.

I can see why this spot closes a bit early; this area has the potential to get a bit seedy when the freaks come out at night. LOL. Unexpected find amongst this tiny group of shop fronts. The interior is decorated like a quaint café with its painted walls. Located close to the Press Club, I had to get their falafel. I think it was around $ 5 or so? Totally worth it. Filling, with veggies and tomatoes. The bonus was the yummy tzatziki sauce that came with it. My friend got a mocha there which she said was very good!

I’ve been looking for a good falafel gyro near by to frequent and I think I’ve hit the jack pot! I get the falafel deluxe, it’s so freakin’ delicious. The pita is good, the veggies are fresh, and the falafel itself is so yummy. It’s light and fluffy, I hate when I bite into super compacted falafel. A tiny tad bit dry to me, but I’m no expert so eh. The tzatziki sauce was so yummy, and the bits of feta give the sandwich a great kick of flavor! My cousin had the lamb & beef gyro and said it’s one of the best sandwiches she’s ever had, and definitely best gyro. Running late I grabbed a falafel one to go and tried to secretly munch down in class, which did not work at all as everyone kept loudly asking what the amazing smell was haha. Very very friendly staff, attentive and kind! Definitely easy to have a nice chat with. Interior is very cute and creative and the times I went there were plenty of seats. Prices are great too, one of my favorite parts about this place as a lot of other places charge so much for falafel. The menu is extremely versatile for those who do not like gyros, from sandwiches to phở! I have yet to find any cons, overall a great find and DEFINITELY a place to check out!

I recently moved a couple of blocks away from this charming yet unassuming little venue. I had heard good things so I decided to give it a spin. The place was almost empty on a Monday afternoon… usually a warning sign. Undaunted, I chose to forage ahead. The lunch special was in effect so I ordered a Beef and Lamb Gyro with a bag of crisps and a Pop. I barely had time to sip my beverage when the Gyro was brought to my table. Well worth the non-wait! While I have suspicions that the meat may have been purchased frozen, it was freakin’ amazing. I could tell the difference between the lamb and thae beef by subtle texture and flavor differences. The produce was fresh and crisp and the dressing was oh so tasty. It was all i could do to wolf the whole thing down! The décor is dark and spartan but the staff is friendly and engaging. Best of all it was wicked affordable. My whole lunch came to a little over seven bucks! Apartment adjacent, budget friendly and, above all, damn tasty! All factors that will have me returning soon, maybe for a b-fast burrito or one of the good looking sandos on the menu. Lunch on Monday, anyone?

My last gastronomic adventure made me wanna skip down the street, screwing up the lyrics to the Laverne and Shirley theme song: Fla-may-zel, flah-mah-zel Fa fa fa freakin fabulous! I’m talkin’ about their falafel gyro sandwich! What a wonderful vegetarian delight. I’m not a vegetarian, but who needs meat when we all know that«deep fried» makes everything *that* much better? I’m surely not thinking«where’s the beef?» while I chomp on… Three. Big. Deep-fried balls of yum, enveloped in a surprisingly soft pita, lovingly adorned with lettuce, feta, tomato, red onion, and a tasty sidekick of tzatziki sauce(thoughtfully served on its own, so you can control the sauciness). So, as not to get your dreams of falafel dashed, get there early. I almost missed out on my little love-balls the other day(yes, I was that ass, unknowingly walking in 5 min before they closed at 5pm) but, they are so nice, and made my falafel dream come true.

I’ve been on a lamb fixation lately, gyros in particular, and I wanted to find try someplace different, which found me at Café au Lait. Now, I knew I wanted a lamb gyro — nothing doing with the chicken — but given the combo price was so low, I figured I might as well get the whole deal. The lamb meat was absolutely amazing. Tender but with a crunch. Very well seasoned — definitely not too much. And they put a lot of lamb inside. Also, as one would imagine for a place that also sells Vietnamese food, the produce inside the pita was also incredibly fresh. tzatziki sauce was the perfect combo of refreshingly light and tangy with a little sweetness from the cucumbers. The only faults ended up being the grilled onions, which were gross and stringy and the pita bread itself, which was bland bland blandblandbland. Fortunately, the rest of the sandwich, which is huge, made up for it. I can’t argue with the value proposition of the prices here either — super affordable. I’ll make a point to ask next time, however, if they have a gyro combo meal that might include a half greek salad on the side or something instead of chips and soda. I like getting a greek salad with my gyro, but when I saw the salad on the menu for almost $ 6, I passed. Still, excellent food. Unassuming location and décor. Friendly staff. I’ll be coming back here often.

Our trip to Café Au Lait anticipated some gyros and falafel. you know, Mediterranean food. As we walked in through the door, we smell phở. Wait, *record stopping sound* PHO? Mediterranean food. and Vietnamese food?! No way. It actually smelled like it was good phở, too! The cute, petite little lady recommended the Phở to us but I was determined to try their falafel and my boyfriend had been craving a gyro for days. Bottom line: amazing!!! Both their gyro and their falafel sandwiches are sooo good!(Read my previous review for details). Don’t deter from ordering the falafel just because it’s vegetarian! Trust me, although I loooove vegetables, I am NO vegetarian and don’t think I’ll ever have what it takes to be one, but I love falafel! At first, we were thinking the sandwiches were a bit small(we’re kinda spoiled with large portions in this country) but in the end, we ended up being really full! I’m coming back for my gyro/falafel fix every time I’m back in town!!!

$ 3.50 for a HUGE vegan sandwich? YES please! I decided to walk over here on my way back from the bank and I’m so glad I did. This little hole-in-the-wall café has great fresh ingredients, super cheap prices, and a nice selection on their menu. the employees(owners?) were very sweet and I waited less than 5 minutes for my sandwich to be made. For $ 4.99 you can get a huge sandwich, chips, and a fountain soda. I opted for just a sandwich but I did take a peek at their chips basket and saw Miss Vickie’s and pretzels, which made me happy(none of those greasy Lay’s or Frito’s, whew!). Next time when I’m hungrier I’m definitely going for the sandwich combo, or maybe one of their tasty looking salads. Definitely coming back!
