It may be a little unfair to review Comet when my one experience in here was on a Friday after midnight when there were like 40 drunk people crowding around, waiting for their greasy food. Still, there were about 10 – 12(if not more) cooks and you’d think at least ONE would approach a waiting customer standing right next to the cash register. Anyway, after someone eventually took my order and my food finally arrived(about a 10 minute wait), the frazzled employee handed me a shake that wasn’t fully closed that exploded and spilled all over my dress, shoes and the floor with nary an apology. We had to grab a bunch of tissues since she didn’t seem to care one bit. Oh well, most of it was on their carpet. The fries and slider were ok, a little less than average but whatever, it’s just drunk food.

The scene and the food are apt for night food after a pub or just a night out. Their waffle fries are one of the best I had and the burger is Awesome. Milk is another thing to crave for here.

I’ve gotten a decent shake and slider here but that’s about the only good thing I have to say. The waitstaff is not impressive and is relatively unpleasant. The last time I went it smelled like raw sewage had exploded behind some closed door(maybe it was raw sewage, maybe it was a full grease trap, working in food service I’ve had experiences with both and either way you don’t want your food being prepared in that environment). Honestly, you should just walk the extra couple blocks and go to little bros, the waitstaff might not wow you there either, but at the least it is cleaner and better tasting.

Love the old school 5 and dime feel. The burgers are delicious and so are the milkshakes and malts. I would recommend this for a date or an evening stroll.

This is reminiscent of teleway on John r and 11 mile. I ordered the monster buger which is 1⁄3 pound slider. The bun was soft and steamed with caramelized onions and normal toppings. The burgers and sliders are the most order item if you’re coming here. They also had hotdogs which were fine but would not be something I would order again. I would have rather had another slider. The chilly cheese fries were massive. Due to their nature it’s not something you can pack up. I would order the small next time. Regarding the wait staff they only had one waitress for a saturday afternoon which was not nearly enough. I finally got a refill on your water 15 min into finishing it which was when I was ready to pay. Great comfort food place. I would stick with the sliders

Such a simple concept for a place but they do it so well. Very greasy burgers, good milkshakes, great fries, great atmosphere. It can’t get much better than that. I love going here after a long night at the bars in Royal Oak because they are opened later so that those that need some food to sober up before they go home can do so. You order your burger, it’s cooked right in front of you, and it has that old-time restaurant setting. The price of the burgers are cheap, and I will always try and eat here if I’m out and about in Royal Oak. The grease is worth it, because it’s apart of their signature of what they offer.

This place is small, and retro in style. One server, and one short order cook. Service was friendly, and fast without being pushy. Prices are as good as the food, which is pretty good! I would like to return again in the future.

I’m sure this place must have good food, but I would know. The hubbs and I sat at a table for about a minute before we left. This place is filthy. Menus were sticky, dirt and old pop on the wall, caked up food reminders on the table chair and napkin dispenser. just disgusting.

If you enjoy flavorless pucks of gristly, overcooked meat, then this is the place for you. Not good. Almost inedible.

Upon waking in you will notice the feel of an old school burger place, this place has been around since I was a child and is one of the few places still standing in downtown Royal Oak over the years. I have tried many burger places in the area and I really had higher expectations for this place since I haven’t had it in years. The sliders are fairly large but extremely greasy! The bun was literally dripping with grease. As I am writing this I am wiping off the grease from my thumbs on my screen. No bueno. If your looking for sliders I would instead recommend Little Brothers Burgers down the street instead. I fully realize that I can eating a slider but I have never seen one this greasy before!

This place is small, oldchool and hipster so you must like this kind of stuff. Burgers are worth all your guilt! Delicious, fresh and very very cheap. Their fries are huge and piled with toppings if you desire to have any. My service was friendly and nice Recommended!

My husband and I visited Comet Burgers after a matinée this afternoon. The venue came highly recommended by a family member, stating it was similar to the Mercury in Corktown and Greens Hamburgers(Farmington Hills, MI). As these are our favorite burger joints, we knew we wouldn’t be disappointed. Upon entering, the burger joint reminded me of an old school diner. Small yet inviting, there is less room to sit at a table and more room to sit at the bar. Fine with us! The waitress approached us smiling. She seemed very helpful and friendly. My husband ordered two double cheese burgers with fries, and I ordered a steak and cheese sandwich. After about a 6 minute wait, our order arrived. My husbands burger looked like a single burger, but he didn’t complain. It tasted like a white castle burger, but he was happy. My steak and cheese sandwich was delicious. The perfect size with all the right toppings and garnishments. I loved it. Only issue we had was upon leaving we requested two regular cheese burgers with lettuce and pickles placed on the side. We ordered it that way so when we warm it up, the lettuce won’t get soggy. When we received our order, the lettuce and pickles were added to the burger. When my husband asked the waitress to remake the order, she gave him so much attitude. Not sure where that came from, especially since she seemed so helpful. I would think if a customer orders food a certain way, why would they be expected to pay for the food when it isn’t cooked as requested. Customer Service means everything to an establishment. Although the food was good, it will be a while before we return. My husband mentioned Hunter House would give Comet Burgers a run for their money… we’ll be there next.

I’ve been eating burgers here for nearly a decade and I’ve never left unhappy. It’s now an after school tradition with my son when. Brown cow, chili cheese fries and burgers. Delicious happiness.

Odd, wrote a review on this place months and months ago after a UYE. My photo is even the cover photo for the business at this time, and I discussed the beauty of the sauteed onions on top of the burger. Decent slider, nice coney dog.

Sliders are pretty good. Not quite up to par with Brayz or Hunter House, but far better than White Castle. I like how Comet sliders come with pickles on the side so you can add them just before biting, COLD, along with your mustard(you’ll have to add your own ketchup too, if you’re into that kind of thing). Waffle fries are nicely crisped and come in generous portions. 3.5 stars, rounded down. Nothing wrong with the place, there’s just too much fierce competition nearby in this category. Metro Detroit is very fortunate to be the home of so many good-to-great slider joints.
