Stopped there to check it out. Worst onion rings I ever had and their famous chili tasted liked doctored up Hormel chili out of the can. Not a real friendly atmosphere either. Not a place I will be going back to. Alot better places to go to.

I’d never been to Clary’s before, though I’ve seen it many times passing by on Virginia Street. I came here for lunch with my Cuz who lives in Reno as well. It was a nice day so we opted to sit outside. Good thing we could sit outside as the inside was really loud and not much seating besides the bar. We seemed to get a lot of stares as we walked through the narrow path to the outside. The outside was much better as far as the people noises, but the sounds from beyond the fenced in area, reminds you, you’re still in an urban environment. The sounds of buses and traffic and the expletive filled chatter of urban youth carry into the dining area. I did find the seating on the bare metal chairs a little hard on my rear end … maybe I need more padding! Our server was over right away and friendly enough. Looking over the menu there’s selections of appetizers, salads, burgers and sandwiches. Breakfast is served in the mornings as well. We start with 2IPA Ickys.($ 4.00 ea) and decide on lunch. I went for the Patty Melt with fries($ 10.50). What grabbed me, was the burgers and Patty Melt are ½ pound patties hand ground on site. My Cuz goes for the BLTA, which is a BLT with avocado added($ 9.50) with coleslaw as her side. There’s a TV mounted to a wall outside, but the brightness of the sun makes it really too had to see very well. As my Cuz’s enlightening conversation continues, our food arrives. Eat now, talk later! I notice my patty Melt comes with a huge mound of fries, though a bit greasy with the oil glistening in the sunlight. The fries are thin cut … not my fave cut, but I’ll always eat fries! My burger patty was cooked as ordered, medium … a change from most places! My Cuz’s BLTA looked nice, I thought it could have used more bacon, but she liked it OK. She said the bacon had a good flavor and was happily munching away. My first bite of my Patty Melt, well, the meat was good and grilled onions were there, but the bread I thought was a little too soft. I was grilled fine, but it’s just the type of rye bread used. It was a more fine grained softer bread. I prefer a coarser rye that adds texture to the Melt, but that’s just me. Some my find the softer bread easier on the roof of the mouth and more squishy. Still a nice rendition of the Patty Melt. The fries, though house cut fresh, were a little too greasy for me. When you can see the shine of the oil on the fries, that’s just a little too much. But I did eat them anyways. When we got the check, I was gonna pay, and I noticed no sales TAX! It’s included in the pricing of the food! COOL! I like that, so you can figure the prices compared to other places are a little less the 8% less than the menu says. This makes adding way easier too. Overall, Clary’s wasn’t the greatest best bar and grill I’ve ever been to, but not a place to avoid either. I did have a very locals private restaurant feel to the inside as stated by another reviewer, but sitting outside was fine. I’d be willing to try other menu items another time.

We have been a few times for breakfast now and always enjoy. It was time to try a dinner option. The place is as stated before, comfortable and friendly. We ordered fish and chips, mushroom soup, steak with peppercorn and a chicken piccata. The soup was really quite good and could have had three bowls. The fish and chips are overloaded with chips/fries. The fish was just fine but will request more slaw next time and prehaps leave off the chips as I am not a chip kind of guy. The slaw was actually good. The steak came with garlic mashed pots and stealing a bite, they tasted as advertised and darn good. I was told the steak was one of the best in a long time. The veggies on both meals we actual fresh very well cooked veggies, not the usual throw aways one finds in most restaurants. The piccata was as told to me, a bit salty but would still order it again as it was that tasty. So we all enjoyed our food and beers at a very reasonable price with great service.

Went to this place for the first time the other week. The food was sooo delicious! Big portions and cooked with fresh ingredients. Some of the best food in Reno. The service was great too! I will definitely come back and recommend this bar to my friends.

We frequent the Ruby River steak house across the parking lot from Clary’s, but never gave that sweet little Irish pub much thought. It’s a bit unassuming. In fact, last night was my first time there and a friend passed it, twice, looking for it, though I told her it was across from the Peppermill and across the parking lot from Ruby River.lol. At any rate, it was a VERY pleasant experience. Small, quaint, warm, friendly. That little dive vibe, but it’s a GOOD dive! It’s my new favorite! Our waitress(I believe her name was Maria) was a darling! I was waiting a good spell for a friend and she kept checking on me and striking up conversation. She’s got quite an engaging personality! And the food is absolutely fabulous! My Guiness was good, but could have been a bit colder. This place offers all things good. Since watching many cooking shows and being a fan of Bar Rescue and Kitchen Nightmares I’m somewhat of a tough critic. I believe Clary’s would be Chef Ramsey and John Taffer approved! T.M.W.

I ordered something called the pancake sandwich. It was unusually different from something I would actually eat for breakfast. But I must say that it was pretty good.

Seeing all the positive reviews, maybe we came here on an off day in the kitchen, but neither my husband nor I enjoyed our meals here. The service was good though: quick, friendly, and attentive. We were staying at the Peppermill and decided to come here because it was walking distance and well rated. I got the fish and chips; he got the wings(nitro). The fish was mostly batter and didn’t have much flavor, and I wasn’t really a fan of the tartar sauce. The fries were generously portioned but soggy; no amount of ketchup or hot sauce could save them. My husband said the wings had good flavor but the nitro was hotter than any wings he’d ever eaten before, including the hottest flavors at Wing Stop &BWW. It actually messed his stomach up and gave him epic heartburn for the rest of the day. Never fun while on vacation. We’re not in Reno often, so it’s unlikely we’d go back to try other things the next time we are in town, but if we did we’d probably stick to burgers. Seems like most people who reviewed this place well liked the burgers.

Tucked away in plain site, Clary’s is the kind of family-owned place where everybody knows your name. Over the past 60 years, this horseshoe shaped brick building has been home to a drive-in burger shop, beauty salon, liquor store, sports bar, Irish pub, and now a very comfortable bar and grill. The bar itself is well-stocked with a handful of brews on tap and a pretty impressive selection of spirits. Although there are a few TV’s tuned to sports programming, the combination of tasteful décor, fresh flowers at every table, and a sound system purring«soft sounds of the ‘70s» make for a nice break from the more common cacophony of sports bars. With my sandwich I enjoyed a cup of housemade vegetable and meatball soup, reminiscent in both seasoning and composition to Mexican albondigas. Clary’s signature cheesesteak wouldn’t pass muster in Philly, but it’s a damn good sandwich on its own merits. A grilled Italian roll is loaded with nicely-seasoned roast beef, grilled onion, chopped jalapeño, and a blend of four cheeses – shredded and melted on top – served with your choice of side and a cup of au jus($ 11.50). In other words, a French dip gone deliciously fabulous. A side of fresh onion rings was shared by the table, and although the serving was ample for the price($ 5.50) they suffered a bit from being over-battered. Though crunchy on the outside, the excess of batter made for a cakey interior that was a bit off-putting. An order of Icelandic cod fish and chips – with a side of coleslaw – suffered even more from an over-abundance of batter. The four large pieces of deep-fried seafood weren’t crispy at all, making the experience much like eating a fish-filled doughnut($ 11.50). The tartar sauce was quite sweet and lacking in dill or lemon flavors. Though artfully presented in a lettuce-leaf bowl and obviously made fresh, the slaw was just kind of average and forgettable. The saving grace of the dish was a heaping portion of very thin, fresh-cut fries. Though they could have been a tad crisper, the inside was fluffy and the flavor was very good; they quickly disappeared. Having heard good things about Clary’s burgers, we chose to try a patty melt paired with another pile of those yummy fries($ 10.50). The best thing about the sandwich was the most important to get right: the ½ lb hamburger patty was perfectly seasoned and cooked to order. They say they grind Angus chuck and make their patties in-house, and I’m inclined to believe it. The rye bread could have been a little more toasty, but plenty of grilled onion and melted Swiss cheese hit the spot in this decent rendition of an American classic. From the brunch offerings was selected a French benedict, featuring a big ol’ slab of French toast topped with slices of thick-cut Canadian bacon, poached eggs, and Clary’s «Bene sauce»($ 11.50). The sauce was definitely not Hollandaise – with a color and consistency more like country gravy – but the flavor was plenty appetizing. You could definitely taste the nutmeg and cinnamon of the toast, which worked better with that sauce than I’d have guessed. Thin-sliced home fries – topped with chopped scallion – and a big wedge of blood orange on the side completed the dish. I skipped my usual dash of Tabasco and mixed the home fries with the bene sauce to good effect. While chatting with the very friendly hostess we learned that the establishment has recently undergone a change in ownership. Despite the couple issues that made our meal less-than-perfect, we really enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend the place to friends. I think with just a bit of «batter practice» on the deep-fried items, this cozy joint could become one of my favorite haunts.

I felt the need to update my review from four stars to five because each time I come back, Clary’s just keeps getting better! The ambiance is nice: a casual pub that offers nice patio seating during warm seasons. The restaurant forms a semi-circle around the bar which makes for a unique space. Each time I visit, I order one of their delicious burgers! I’ve tried many different ones and am always pleasantly surprised. The chef is always very flexible and puts an over-easy egg on my burger when I ask for it. Additionally, you can swap out the fries for another side; I personally like to order a side of soup instead. I’ve tried their broccoli cheddar and their mushroom soups and loved them both. The burgers are made to order and they are made very well. When I want a burger, this is the place that always comes to mind first.

Very rude bartender. I called and asked what time they’re happy hour is. And she said«we don’t have happy hour, we’re happy all the time». So I asked«are your prices lower all the time» … and she hung up on me. Amazing!!!

Omg — so great. We’re staying at the Peppermill and wanted some local grub. This place rocks, we came 2 days in a row and will likely return again before we leave town. Parmesan Turkey rock star sandwich

I found this place a few years ago when my friend came to town for his 21st birthday. We had an awesome bartender who made us some of his favorite drinks and they were all delicious. The next time I came to try the food, ordered the turkey Parmesan sandwich, and I was hooked. I love the burgers, especially with an over-easy egg on top. Perfectly cooked, and they’re generous with the cheese. If I’m ever in the mood for a great burger and a drink or two, Clary’s is at the top of my list.

This place has been a favorite weekend breakfast for years. It never disappoints, ever. Do yourself a favor and try the chili relleno and eggs(weekends only). You’ll be hooked, as I am. Other great choice: Benedict florentine. Out of this world!

Great place! This is my regular when I come to Reno. The atmosphere is friendly. When it comes to food they have a great well priced steak, its always the special and not on the menu and well worth it. Teresa and Kyle always does a great job!

The best Nachos ever! That’s what the waitress said, and she was absolutely right. The chips are unbelievable! The fries are fresh and«real», but not too real that my picky 10 year old wouldn’t eat them. We also shared a wonderfully fresh and tasty rib eye. The service and patrons(older crowd) were all super nice. They have TVs for games, but it’s not for the rowdy loud crowd. I’ve heard they’re breakfast is phenomenal!

We dropped by here on a Sunday morning around 9:00 am. Wow good luck getting a table. We were lucky in that someone left right as we were walking in so we snagged the dirty table and waited for it to be cleaned(I know that is so annoying to food servers as I used to be one but it was the ONLY spot in the joint.) The server was really friendly and nice. Not overly nice but just enough to make you feel relaxed. She brought us two mimosas with fresh squeezed OJ in them. Nice. You don’t see that very often. They were good. We then ordered the pancake sandwich and a California Benedict. The pancake sandwich is not a sandwich at all. I have no idea why they named it this. It is pancakes, sausage and stuff. The pancakes were very fluffy and good. The plate was large and my partner could not finish the meal. I ordered the California benedict. OMG so good. I have only ordered benedict once before at Pegs and it was ok but this one was to die for. The sauce was creamy and so flavorful. The egg was perfect. The tomato and avo were also awesome. The country potatoes were so crispy and yum! They had scallion on them and no full onions in them thank goodness. I hate onions in breakfast potatoes. Anyhow, we will definitely be back for more. Warm brick walls and a nice round comfy dining area with friendly service always makes for a great day.

Classic Bar in every sense of the word. Beautiful hardwood, friendly barkeeps, small and quaint, tv’s showing spots! I went here for dinner and had their Ortega burger/fries and my signature drink rum&coke! The server was very attentive and pleasant. The crowd was the older type and it was not noisy at all in the place. It’s Nevada so gaming is always present. The prices are more than reasonable. The park lot is rat turd small, if you’re in a SUV or a extended cab truck and there is not a open close park; welp partner, it’s time to break out your driving skills. There appears to be some sort of gated mobile park behind this restaurant with people coming in and out at all times. Be careful! Bottom line: I’ll be back(in the terminator voice) Unilocal I can be corny!

You were out all night… one of *those* nights. You can’t sleep anymore, but you can’t reasonably be expected to be a functioning part of society either. Eating is sometimes a double-edged sword on mornings like this, but you know that if you wait too long, you will be defeated by your baggiest sweatpants and the comfort of your couch and overpriced delivery(kraft mac n cheese even sounds like too much effort right now) for the rest of the day. There’s only one place to go. One breakfast that’s calling your name. And you gotta go now, or it will all be over(they stop serving breakfast at 1:00 pm on Sundays). Clary’s Chicken Fried Steak, smothered in sausage gravy, served with crispy, thin-sliced potatoes and two eggs, any way you want. Hallefreakinglujah! Do it up right with a bloody mary for a truly gut-bombing, hangover-curing experience.
