This is an awesome spot for cheap drinks, great dogs, and always great service.

Zach had me thinking chilli dogs for days. I went with a group of 6 and it was just what we all needed. I will definitely be back.

Oh boy. I come here late night for the hours and the tasty hot dogs. But if you want good service, make sure to hang out when Brett’s makin dogs. The curly haired woman named Sam… hot dog, I have never received such surly, short and downright bitchy service. Wanna know what’s wrong with the Portland service industry these days? Come visit Sam.

Listen… I originally hated zach’s shack due to shitty people that work there… Until Brett came into my life. I will come here now. Brett, the bartender was not only engaging and nice, but made the wings dog super special! I love this pace again.

Really overpriced for what you get. Good flavors and topping ideas, but tiny portions and not so top-of-the-line ingredients. Our fries tasted like they were baked cafeteria fries, and the«cheese» that was supposed to be on our cheese fries was a meager portion of crusty cheddar. The staff was friendly and the vibe was cool, but in a city like Portland you’ve gotta up your game in the wiener department. I left disappointed.

Lets get this out of the way: the dogs are delicious and the back patio is super nice to chill and play ping pong. This being said; the service is shotty at best and at worst, AWFUL. I don’t know why but they seem to only have one person on staff at a time, and that person is so stressed and miserable that the environment gets plagued by their attitude. Primal grunts of frustration and crude expletives ting from the back kitchen, and the«server» does a great job making the customer feel like the bad guy, simply fir ordering food. That combined with a terrible wait time for what should be the easiest possible food to make, turns a potentially great place to eat into a negative freaking nightmare.

Friendly vibes, late hours, and good, cheap grub. Zach’s Shack is frequently my last stop of the night after a little barhopping with my friends. A single sausage/dog is the perfect size for a late nigh snack. I admit, I don’t actually like hot dogs. But you can substitute a linguiça, a cheese-filled sausage, or a red hot for just a buck more, and they’re delicious sausages! My friends and I agree, whether you go for a linguiça or a hot dog, the Chicago Style is definitely the thing to get. It’s got all the spice, salt, and meat you crave at 2:47 A.M. after a night at the bars. Despite being a tiny establishment, Zach’s is always fast on the draw, serving customers quickly even on crowded nights. I’ve never seen a server or a cook without a smile, even when dealing with drunks from the nearby bars. And while you wait, I’d highly recommend browsing the extensive jukebox selection, particularly if you’re into funk and soul. Zach’s Shack is a great place for when you want to keep the fun going.

They have trivia at 8p on Thursdays!!! They are Open 12pm to 3am every day. It is so amazing to be able to grab a hot dog at 12:30am. Mm, drunk food is the best food. They have options for all people(Veggie dog, tofu, turkey dog, cheese sausage, hot link, etc). Reasonably priced in «eating out terms» and the location is so convenient to bar hopping! Very well planned location. Service is hit or miss, maybe helps to know staff? My boyfriend and I were ignored for a good 15 minutes before we were helped :( Two cider options currently! Crisp in pear on tap and Angry Orchard bottle. Try the Crispin Pear, do it!

I can’t help but love the Syd dog. They’re so good! I think it’s $ 3.75& comes delivered to my table in 5 minutes or less. I find myself craving these often. I’ve been here numerous times and don’t have a complaint. It’s obviously not a 5 star restaurant, you can’t be too picky. Fast, simple and cheap.

This place reminds me of what hot dogs should be like. Not those skinless franks you got from the supermarket.

Got a grateful dog here today which was a tasty hotdog with cucumber, onion, tomato and celery salt. I enjoyed it very much. We also got a side of fries that were just ok, I would recommend ordering them with cheddar or chili next time. The hotdogs were solid, tasty and not too expensive. I also enjoyed the band posters on the walls. The staff were very hard working and courteous, there was a bit of delay as a lot of people hit the counter with orders and they were very nice about it.

HOTDOG!!! I finally found a place that I can call home — a Mecca of sorts. The food was awesome. The service was superb. Did I mention the food? My hot dog was cooked perfectly(yes, I’ve had a bad dog), and the toppings were fresh. In addition to a great hot dog, I also indulged in some amazing jalapeño cheddar fries — made with REAL cheese! No plastic cheese here folks! The cleanliness left a bit to be desired, as did the décor, but the food makes up for it!

A place with a full bar that is open til 3 and just down the street from the Hawthorne? YES, PLEASE. They have great and unique offerings, the fries are great and crinkle cut, the cheese sticks are fried cheese… there really isn’t any going wrong. I came in drunk and starving, so I was pretty miffed when I didn’t get my hot dog and my friends had to go up and reorder it, but once said hot dog came(Grateful minus mustard) I was once again a happy camper. They have a full bar! Did I say that yet? It should be said at least once more! The prices are pretty reasonable, too.

At this point in my evening I had already consumed some hot dogs downtown at Pioneer Square, so why not have more? Cheap beer and a Chicago Dog said I was having another, that and we wanted to stay close by the Alhambra since we were seeing a show later on. My guess is that Zach’s Shack used to be a cart but it graduated to a brick & mortar establishment. I liked all the choices on dogs. Chicago, New York, Viking, Wings(and no it’s not hot wings but a hot dog with hot sauce and bleu cheese.) Of course $ 2.50 PBRs weren’t a bad thing either. Playoffs baseball on the TV, food heading to the belly and a concert in a few. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday. The Chicago dog was everything it was supposed to be. Neon green relish, sport peppers, celery salt, poppy bun, tomatoes, and pickle spears. It was a pretty large hot dog as well. For $ 4.50 it better be a bit bigger than the Oscar Meyers you get at Freddie’s. Good place to hit up if you want to grab some quick grub before a show, plus Por Que Taquaria had a line out the door. Really? Is it worth standing on a line for street tacos? Anyways, enjoy some tubular meats here.

The good: A perfect dive bar — great beer, good dogs and a fun staff. The bad: None so long as you know to expect the hot dog-centric menu. The verdict: Any dog bar that can accommodate my request for extra neon green relish on a Chicago dog gets a gold star in my book. Did I mention that they have ping pong and Jell-O shots?

Zach’s is a roadside dive bar that fell straight out of a long country road and smack into hipster central of Portland’s bustling food scene. And it’s fucking awesome. ~$ 9 nets you a killer hot dog, fries and a drink. Mind you, these aren’t fancy brats or gourmet wild boar sausages(which I love), but plain and simple HOTDOGS. Delicious, and in my case, covered in chili and cheese. The fries are crinkle cut — of course — and there’s an actual CD jukebox churning out 90’s gold in the corner. It’s nu-retro? There’s a ton of great food in Portland, and everyone everywhere seems to have some angle on being fresh, local, organic and more. So it’s refreshing to find a joint that simply doesn’t give a wag about any of that.

This is one of those places where what you see is what you get… so look more closely at the photos posted by other users. I wish I would have! I Normally don’t write reviews but I feel a little mislead by the«4 star» rating on Unilocal so here’s the low down on this place. If you are looking for boiled Oscar Meyer hot dogs adorn with bland shredded cheese and other ingredients. Look no further. Typically if you are going to eat this kind of backyard junk food, you want to go big and bold with the flavors. The next time I see this place will either be when they have revamped the menu or I stumbled home after drinking and forgot I was boycotting this place.
