Delicious food. Great atmosphere. We were served by the owner who recommended great wine and better dishes. Amazing!!!

We just left Fado and it was so delicious that I had to write a review to let everyone know how great it was. Happy hour is full of great deals. We had oysters with a delicious mignonette, salt cod fritters, and meatballs. Everything was excellent. We had a house salad and a pork dish as main courses. They were both amazing. Although the food was great, the service made the meal. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming! And Ross, the owner, assured us that he’ll be adding Pastel de Natas to the menu soon. We will definitely be back.

Wonderful flavors, attentive service! We’d long been curious about Fado, but since we’re planning a trip to Portugal we thought we’d be initiated into some cuisine. The service was attentive and patiently fielded our questions. The sardine appetizer was amazing. Everyone in our party had a good meal. The physical space was a bit tight but did not detract from the experience. We plan to go back.

What a gem! I live on the East side and for some reason had never given these guys a try, so glad I finally did! My group sampled the delightful salt cod fritters which our lovely server suggested we try with a side of their house made piri piri. The steamed clams were some of the best I’ve ever had. We shared several more dishes which were all a complete home run! One of the best meals out I’ve had in ages, highly recommend this fabulous restaurant!

We just had the most an amazing dinner. Starting with happy hour cod and potato fritters, meatballs and deep fried green beans. For main course we shared the pork shoulder with root purée, and the scallops with bacon. We basically licked the plates. Wednesday is half price wine, so we enjoyed a wonderful vino Verde. For dessert we devoured the cinnamon sugar coated custard filled doughnut holes. Great evening with great food, And the service is awesome. Thank you, looking forward to my next visit.

This is my first Portuguese food experience. I am beyond impressed! The food was healthier but so deeply delicious at the same time! The owner personally brought us our dishes and explained each one. The service was efficent and so pleasurable. I will definitely be back!

Ross was a spectacular host — he called to confirm our reservation and asked whose birthday we were celebrating, then had menus printed with a personalized greeting placed at our table! He and one(that we noticed) server are always on the go between kitchen, dining room, and bar so it might take a minute to get their attention, but every bite & sip is worth it. Spicy linguiça flamed at the table, garlicky grilled shrimp, and flavorful lamb meatballs were superb sharing plates. The white wine sangria was refreshing as well as their own ginger ale, which had a creamy smooth finish. Fresh, perfect melting-in-our-mouths malasadas were presented as a final birthday treat. Wonderful evening for our group.

Wonderful home-cooked style food served by nice people. Although large plates were available, I chose smaller plates so that I can sample different dishes(tapas style). I had the garlicky kale/collard greens, sauteed to tender-crispiness, and clams in white wine, garlic and parsley. The tender lamb meatballs, which had an interesting taste of cumin and cinnamon(?) were served in a gravy on a bed of white rice were very tasty in a homey sort of way. I was looking forward to the grilled sardines, which sadly weren’t available.(Other patrons asked about the sardines too.) When I was in Lisbon, the grilled, fresh-from-the-sea sardines, sprinkled with salt, and a squeeze of lemon, were so simple yet most delicious way to eat fish. But I digress… The white sangria was refreshingly tangy and sweet, but despite the $ 8 price, was small and didn’t seem to have much alcohol. I would definitely eat here again, and if I lived in the Hawthorne neighborhood, I would be a regular customer.

Fado is now my new favorite restaurant! I was so excited to see that there was a place offering the authentic Portuguese food that I had been craving since my trip to Portugal last summer. The owner, Ross, was our waiter, chef and bartender. It was great having the owner explain the dishes, talk to us about his history with Portuguese food and then pick out a couple of fantastic ports within the price range we were looking at. Now for the food — incredible! It took me right back to my time in Portugal. I had the salted cod of the day(bacalhau do dia), which was very very good. In addition, we shared the sardines and flambeed sausage. Grilled sardines are quite tasty! Who knew? And the sausage was fully cooked, but grilled on a flame to reheat it right at our table. My dad got the pulled pork(best I’ve ever had!) and mom got the cheese plate(yummy). As far as I know, this is the only authentic Portuguese restaurant in the NW. If you want a great meal and Portuguese wine or port, this is the place for you. I can’t recommend it enough and will definitely be going back again and again.

No one in our group had ever had Portuguese food before so we decided to check this place out(it was near the Airbnb we were staying at). I’m glad we did! The food was great, make sure that you don’t miss the Assador de Barro and the lamb meatballs. We also had the summer vegetable risotto which was delicious. The bartender(possibly also chef and owner?) Was really cool and friendly. His drinks were also awesome. Don’t miss this place!

The food is absolutely fantastic, and the service the same. Ross regaled us with stories of his family and his love of The Goonies, and entertained our taste buds with his cooking. The girlfriend and I are not big dessert people, but we ended up ordering the entire dessert menu for the table — both options were amazing. Pineapple marinated in a Port reduction with cinnamon and vanilla, and a fantastic Beignet-like doughnut ball were the options, and neither can be missed. Both members of our table who ordered the risotto declared it the best they had ever eaten. The Cod flaked off at the slightest touch, and was full of flavor, as were the potatoes and squash it rested upon. Our guest from out of town was by the end of the meal already planning his next trip to Fado, bringing his wife and child next time. Their vegetarian and gluten-free options are as good as anything else on the menu.

Why did I even bother coming here? For the lure of $ 1 oysters during happy hour that’s what. But I should’ve known it was a mistake when I walked in close to 6pm and there was no one else there. What a really awkward setting when there’s more staff than customers. They require the purchase of a drink though it doesn’t say so on their online menu but okay fine it’s happy hour. The part that bothered me the most is that though their happy hour menu lists all cervejas as $ 3, apparently the cider doesn’t count because it’s not a beer. Yet on their menu and the drink board on the wall, it lists the cider under cervejas. How misleading and it just turned the whole visit sour for me. Of course they did nothing about it and no apology either. As you can guess, I don’t plan to return — the oysters are just not worth it.

Fado Portuguese Kitchen is a nice stop for Happy Hour Oysters. We haven’t tried the regular menu, but both times went for HH. The oysters come with two sauces, one being a red piri piri pepper sauce. It’s a nice change from the traditional cocktail sauce. We tried the flaming sausage, jamon with cheese, and Wine clams as well. I enjoyed the clams and oysters best. The ingredients for the Sangria Blanca were promising, but I didn’t think they come together well. Service on both occasions were attentive and friendly. It was nice to hear Fado music.

Excellent little place over on the eastside on Hawthorne. Thought I’d give Portugese food a try this week and was not disappointed. Started off with the Assador de Barro which is flambeed Linguica sausage(done at your table side) for extreme dramatic effect. It tasted heavenly good with the alcohol fuzed well with the meat. Also got the lamb meatballs which were delicious with all the spices. I got the risotto with chicken which was average(the portugese cheese in it was good though). My friends got the AMejios e Linguica(clams and Linguica Sausage) which was the best dish by far and also the Piri Piri chicken which tasted nice as well. Very friendly service, so give this place a shot if you’re in that area and want to try out a new cuisine!

A Mt Tabor place to watch! Unlike some other neighborhood favorites, this place does not have an hour and a half wait… yet. Upon entering Fabo we were greeted in a way that was comfortably exciting. We had our 14 month sin so we elected to sit outside on a nice Friday evening. Fado is on the pricier side, but ovver small and large plates. It’s offered as Portuguese but definitely has a Portland fare, making this a sidestep from traditional fare, but executed very well. First up was a small plate of meatballs. Served atop rice the small plate gets you 4 nicely portioned meatballs, perfect for a taste shared by the table. The gravy was well seasoned and great consistency and ratio for rice, meat and gravy were perfect. The continued quality of fare went into our large plates, my lamb fell apart and was again, well seasoned. I’d have loved to see a purée but honestly no complaints! The large coffee and traditional donut with cinnamon sugar is a great option for a split. The dough was light and fluffy, with a delicate amount of cream inside. Nailed this potentially overwhelming desert. I would say my review is more 4.5 but this is definitely a place to bookmark for future visits!

Fado Portuguese Kitchen is amazing! I have been to Fado a couple of times: once with my big family and once for my sister’s birthday. The good was great! It brought me back to my childhood. My family is from the Azores and I remember a lot of the food from when i was young. Between both visits i think my family has tried all the food on the menu! I wasn’t disappointed with anything. Even my mom(born and raised in Azores) said the food was pretty authentic. My only surprise about this place is that they don’t serve Portuguese Sweet Bread. I wish that they would. :) It might be a niche market, but I think it would make Fado even more impressive! Thanks for being in Portland and thanks for serving amazing food!

I have been craving Portuguese cuisine for a while now. Fado delivers! The space is welcoming and the service is so warm. Each of the dishes transported me to Portugal. Even the intense aroma upon entry was reminiscent of Portuguese markets and eateries! Amazing traditional sardines, delicate and flavorful meatballs, super adorable linguisa flambé, all punctuated by regional cheeses and a very thoughtfully curated port selection. Can’t wait to return!

Ah, Portugal. I don’t pretend to know you well, but had a truly lovely 3 day trip to Lisbon two years ago. On our most recent date night my husband decided to take us back, to the cuisine at least. It was dead on a Friday night at 7. The service was attentive, which I would hope given the circumstances. There was no Fado music playing. :( We decided to explore the small plate menu because so many of the dishes sounded delicious. Many yeeps have recommended the tableside flaming sausage and it did not disappoint. The egg with peas and bacon had a nice hit of garlic and everything tasted fresh. The salt cod fritters were a mild disappointment, and the mussels we had to send back. There was something majorly off with them. The server told us the dessert options and we went for the doughnuts, which was an excellent choice. The bottle of wine we ordered was very good, and all are from Portugal. We were slightly sad about the mussels, but were so pleased when the server came with the bill and let us know that they had comped both the mussels AND the dessert. On our way out we ran into the chef/owner(?) who was very apologetic. We chatted for a few and went on our merry way. A very nice way to end the evening!

Fado Portuguese has been on my bookmark list for a while. Last night was the first time I had a chance to eat there. Normally I am fairly decisive in my reviews but I am torn with this one as I write this review to rate them 2 or 3 stars. If you read the reviews sequentially it appears this place has begun to struggle from their original success. I wish had gone back and reviewed them before I made my reservations. Here are my observations: 1. On a Saturday night at 7PM there were a number of things not available including the basic house salad. C 2. Service is excellent. Our waitress was wonderful. A 3. Food: Simply ok but really no very memorable. My wife’s, who is not a super picky eater, did not finish her risotto. Usually I am trying to steal her dinner while last night she was giving it away. My soup was good but certainly not anything special. C 4. The atmosphere is nice but again fairly basic. B 5. Fair if the food improves. C+/ B– I hope they get this place back on track.
