Lot of great places to drink in the area — wimpy’s is definitely one of my favs. I have had the burgers(actually was a main source of meals when I was broke), I have also drank excessively there with friends and lovers alike. great dive bar. actually an ‘upscale’ dive bar compared to a lot in Oregon. wish I was walking down the street right now to pop in.

Really love this little place. It’s small and cozy with booths and a narrow, longer table in the middle that can accommodate about 6 people(at that table). It’s not fancy and I wouldn’t recommend it as a date spot. Sometimes it’s completely empty. If you’re looking for that classic hole-in-the-wall Portland dive-bar, this is one of them. It’s connected to Dark Horse next door, so they share a kitchen and a bathroom. The food is pretty impressive, being well-portioned and tasty(mac and cheese is great, baked brie, good beet salad, etc). 2TV’s for zombie or football watching. Current bartender is a very nice guy who does a great job. Previously there were some bartenders who were less attentive unless you were part of some«in» crowd, but once they started to recognize you it got better. Shouldn’t have to be that way though. Worth checking out if you’re on 21st and want to avoid crowds.

$ 3.00(!) cheeseburger basket with fries and a pickle on Tuesdays. What more do you want? Best deal on the block.

Wow. What a joke. This place is awful. I had two drinks here and went outside for a smoke and when I came back in my drink was gone and I was told I was cut off. Not drunk. Not buzzed. They bartender was super rude. Place is a dump. Not in a fun way either. Barf.

The bartender is rude, when she asked to see my id, she told me that I looked a lot younger than my id. I’m almost 40 years old, you don’t have to tell everyone in the entire bar about it and cause a scene. She was loud and trying to start a conversation with me but I just wanted a drink and to crawl into a booth to be with my boyfriend. When I closed my tab she said the card was declined, so we used another card. Well, when I got home both cards have been charged. The bartender is the worst part of that place.

Very cool little dive bar. I’m typically not a dive bar guy but I found out that they do showings of Game of Thrones on Sunday nights! I went this past Sunday and it was awesome. Great little crowd, wonderful bartender, and great beers on tap. I felt warm and welcome in Wimpy’s and I’m sure if you visit them, you will too. Thanks guys!

How do they stay in business? I don’t know either. Not mad, just curious how a bar that has nothing really going for it stays afloat next to the awesomeness of the other 21st ave bars?

The atmosphere here is great, I enjoyed the music, but the bartender was WRETCHED. She was soooo put out to have to serve you or answer any questions with our entire group; I am such an easy customer too, so frustrating.

Great location, decent bar, terrible bar tender. The bar tender is a fucking princess, that wont shut up about every customer that walks through her dimly lit castle. If you want great service, cheap drinks, and a great bar tender go next door to O’Brien’s you wont be sorry. also who the fuck charges $ 2.75 for a beer? Why not $ 3? Why not $ 2 like every other bar on the fucking planet?

Great little dive on 21st. Cheap drinks, ok burgers. Always plenty of whiskey and coke. Usually quiet… I’ve never seen it packed. If you need a dark little corner to relax, this is the place.

It’s not the most extravagant place you’ll visit(Hello, Dive Bar!), but it’s dark and laid back. Mostly, though, go for happy hour. There were cheap beers, and you can order food from next door. I got a grilled cheese and fries for $ 4. That alone is worth it.

Wimpy’s. My sweet, sweet Wimpy’s. I love Wimpy’s. I love the darkness, I love the drinks, I love the music, I love how it’s sometimes incredibly warm in certain parts of the bar(Why? WHOKNOWS!). I also love peaking into O’Briens next door to watch basketball on the big screens. I love Wimpy’s. Seriously, I really do like it. The bartender is great, like some sort of Rosie The Riveter of alcohol. The drinks are cheap and the food is also cheap and made quickly. And the portions? The portions are plentiful, friends! Then there’s the overall mood of the bar. Some might call it dank, some might call it cramped. I call it comfortable. God I love Wimpy’s. Sweet, sweet Wimpy’s. Great place to start or end a bar crawl.

It’s a dive for an area in great need of more dives. So usually I would love it here. But the drinks, THEDRINKS!!! On numerous occasions all of my Whiskey Gingers have tasted like a glass of barely gingery sugar water. So if you come, stick to what’s harder for them to cheat you on: get a beer or a shot. Or both, I think they have a special for that. Okay, and even if the drinks WERE good, I’ve walked in here and sworn I could hear crickets chirping as some oddball mix of young 20-somethings huddle at the bar awkwardly whispering and giving you a shifty-eye like you just stormed their fort or something. This includes the bar tender that is usually there: 20-something girl with odd vintage/hippy style and horn rimmed glasses, I’m not impressed. Obviously I mostly dislike this place, but as I stated before it’s a hole in the wall where you won’t be bothered by a sports event or the popped collar crowd that frequent the NW. +1 star for it.

I had never heard of this place before Jeannie’s pub crawl — and now I know why. It ended up being one of the most dark, dank, and unfriendly places I have ever been to. The PBR was cheap, but so was the service — as I gather from others who were there, we Unilocalers were not welcome there, and not worth the trouble. Well, no worries to the ownership of Wimpy’s — we won’t be returning anytime in the foreseeable future.

Truly disappointed and peeved during this visit. It was totally dark when I arrived and took a while for my eyes to get adjusted. Honestly, I can’t complain about $ 2.50 well drinks, but when I got a beer for twice the price of a well, something just ain’t right. The place is a total dive to begin with and the service wasn’t that great. It was even worse when the server lady/bartender/hipster? whatnot lady bashed the people that were leaving the bar. I guess she don’t like tips and no customers so I definitely won’t be going back…

Four stars and five stars reviews… wooooww…this place must be really awesome. I love the interior of this place, dark, red lights, funky curtains, yes… I dig it. Too bad, the bartender chick with hipster glasses and hat serves us drinks with bad attitude. According to her, it will be an hour for us to get a burger. On top of that, she was thrilled and said out loud«THANKGODTHOSEPEOPLELEFT!» after most of us walked out of that place. Well one of our friends was trailing behind and heard the whole thing. She just doesn’t know that we are not«just those people». We are Portland Yeeps. We like good service or at least decent service, we give GOODTIPS, we write reviews, and post them to share with other people. No more Wimpy’s for me, well at least, not when that ungrateful still employed and still get good amount of tips bartender work there.

If this bar were any darker inside I think it would actually start sucking the sunlight in from the outside like a black hole, thus resulting in a slightly darker world. On the flip side, during my short tenure in the bar, I had a sneaking suspicion that I was glad it was so dark in there. PS: I tipped $ 2 on a $ 17 tab, which was exorbitant for 2 Hornitos drinks and a Stella on draught. That’s ridiculous.

Where’s Popeye when you need him?! I don’t know who Wimpy had to blow to get a bar named after him but I hope that he gets better service than I did from the clown pouring weak drinks at the bar. This place is totally fucking dark, in more ways than you can imagine. One star for darkness, two stars for ultra-darkness.

I remember hating on this place, but last night as I was looking for a reasonably priced burger I saw their banner reminding passersby that, um, they were under new, something. It was dark, okay? I honestly don’t recall what was wrong with this place. I think it was a general state of disrepair, but they must have renovated because other than the common fault of being a bit too dimly lit inside the interior is fine, just fine. I’d even say rather nicer than 21st Ave B&G down the street. The bartender was responsive, the beer cold($ 2.50 PBRs all day! Not sure if that’s every day) and the burger tasty. The tater tots were both crunchy and slightly greasy, hell of a trick, really. I’d say I’d definitely be back, but they should have spent some of that renovation money on their men’s room. It’s pee-musty like a mofo. Really awful.
