Salmon wrap was delish! A little overpriced if you ask me, but that’s food trucks for ya! Will go again.

How did I note write a review of this amazing place. My girlfriend had this on here«if ever in Portland list» and so we hunted it out. It’s located with a lot of food trucks with a wide variety of meals. BUT — THISISAWESOME!!! Lefse being used in a creative way, that is nearly a cardinal sin with my girlfriend’s Norwegian family, but wow… what a great meal. I went with meatballs as I recall, my girlfriend did a seafood wrap… wow. We loved it. had desert as well. Great price and great food.

All you need is the meatball lefse. The owner/cook is super friendly. This is a great stop at the Belmont Food Pod. The meatball lefse is savory, sweet and tart, and soaked in delicious gravy. A great gateway dish into Scandinavian food.

I feel like I need to revisit Viking Soul Food to give them an adequate review. I got the special when I visited. It was a grilled peach, brie and walnut wrap. More of a dessert or a snack. I’ll be back Viking Soul Food!

It was a pleasure to be introduced to lefse and Norwegian food in general. The salmon lefse is probably my favorite, it’s unbeatable and feels fresh. The Norwegian meatballs with the special gravy is great if you’re not into smoked salmon. Then again, if you can’t appreciate smoked salmon save your $ 9 and drink soylent.

Came cause I had to try it… Greeted kindly. Ordered the smoked salmon lefse…$ 7.50… When I went back to the window and ordered the tea… I noticed the lady took my money. And preceded right back to my wrap… It freaks me or when basic hygiene isn’t adhered to… Viking or not The lefse didn’t have much flavor. The sauce on the mostly salad wrap was good… Salmon was good just sparse… Really small compared to the price and indigents I think things could be stepped up… I might give it another go… Big might…

It’s always fun trying out a new cultural food experience(yay Kachka), but the flavors here just don’t quite go together very well. It’s not bad, just imbalanced or something, a bit sweet(we had the meatball and the salmon). However, the texture of the lefse is great.

Delicious wraps. Wrapped in a Norwegian potato pancake, lefsa, with tasty stuffings such as smoked salmon or spicy chicken sausage. The smoked salmon is particularly sumptuous. The lefsas themselves are fantastic. Very thin and soft, but holds its structural integrity very well. Viking Soul Food is surely one of the best food carts around.

Nom nom nom nom… I would eat lefse every day if this cart were closer. We swung by on our way through Portland for a quintessential PDX food truck experience, and we were not disappointed. We both had the house cured salmon lefse, but my bf swapped goat cheese for the crème fraîche due to an allergy. The wrap was light, and delicious, and just the right size to fill me up… even though I really really wanted to follow up with a sweet lefse. I also dug the lingonberry iced tea — super tasty without being too sweet.

Had a lefse with smoked salmon the day before yesterday. Dying to go back again. I was driving back with the lefse and thought I would taste it while stopped at a red light. It was so good, I finished it while driving.

Viking Soul Food’s smoked salmon lefse is a tasty Norwegian burrito that is reason alone to visit the cute food cart. I’m really beginning to appreciate food carts that only offer a few items. I say be focused, execute it well and people will come.

Stopped by here for a quick dinner. Me and a bud shared 3 things: Norwegian meatball lefse, chicken sausage lefse, and smorbrod. –Norwegian meatball lefse($ 7.50): my favorite of the 3. Love the unique blend of flavors ranging from the fermenty goat cheese, to the savory meatballs, to the sweet cabbage. –Chicken sausage lefse($ 8.50): the chicken sausage itself was quite good, with a subtle spice kicker combined with the soft horseradishy-tasting slaw. These flavors didn’t go as well together in my palate as their meatball lefse. –Smorbrod($ 7): thick pieces of beef on a small bed of slaw and slice of rye bread. The meat was tender, the slaw wasn’t too sweet, the rye was toasty and earthy(in a good way). But the whole thing was TINY and such a tease! For the price, I was really hoping for something more filling, but instead got like a tapa-sized open-faced«sandwich.»

The Lefse is the Nordics answer to the burrito. See you’ve got this potato tortilla thing and they stuff it with meat and veggies. I can’t be too far off right? All I know is that I have been over by Good Food Here on too many occasions and this places hasn’t been open for one reason or another. Finally one a random day, it’s back open and it was either Brazilian food(which is also a cart I never see open) or Viking Soul Food. I’m a sucker for a good meatball so VSF it was. Meatballs in a creamy dark gravy with pickled cabbage. It worked really well. I actually liked the picked cabbage the best. It was different. A bit sweet and not a lot of a vinegar taste to it. The meatballs were your standard Scandinavian meatballs and were solid and the gravy served to make everything work together. It’s one hell of a unique burrito and as long as they are open when I return, I will try other items from them including their sweet options. Good food here at Viking Soul Food. Enjoy.

I think I’ve fallen into an alternative universe. My friend found out about this place and showed me their website. It’s funny because the owners as just like us, Me: Caribbean background with a penchant for spicy food. Her: Nordic background with an obsession for Lefse. It’s a small world after all! Anyhoo, we tried the lefse with lingonberry and cream cheese and that thing is a KILLER. It’s super thick and satisfying and will make you feel dirty for consuming all those calories but so worth it.

I got down and had some pickled herring! Also had Lefse and it was so good I slapped myself. Not giant portions but healthy, flavorful, and carefully prepared morsels.

I’m glad they are back! Today I was somehow craving this cart and the house-cured salmon Lefse is still pretty great. The prices have increased by 13% and I feel the filling is less substantial. Still delicious.

Life is a cruel joke. Today I found out that I’ve wasted 23 years on this planet without trying lefse, and just as soon as I’ve found my new love, it’s being taken away. Viking Soul Food may be ceasing its cart operations, but the memory of the incredible house-cured wild-caught salmon lefse with dill sour cream and crisp fresh greens will forever stay with me. I’m actually debating going back for dinner tonight, and lunch tomorrow, and dinner tomorrow… and so on until they tell me they’re closed and I have to leave and no I can’t follow them home. To add insult to injury, their lingonberry iced tea was the most refreshing non-alcoholic beverage I’ve ever had, and paired perfectly with the wrap. I understand that they’re closing for circumstances beyond their control, and now I’m tempted to host unnecessary events just to book them as caterers. THATGOOD. Get some through Saturday!

This food truck was my most looked forward to eats in Portland. They have a sauce that is described as Thor’s hammer and listening to the owners speak in Scandinavian was priceless! Thanks for pronouncing Mjollnir for us. The bread for the wrap was fantastic. It’s called Lefse and is similar in texture to a crêpe but unique in it’s own Scandinavian way. The meatballs were the way too go. That is their signature dish. I don’t care if there are two of you and you want to order something different so that you can try more things. The person that doesn’t order the meatball will be disappointed because the other person isn’t going to want to share. Support this mom and pop place with unusual ethnic eats. They texted me when I called them to make sure I had visited already before they closed early for a family emergency, I don’t care if there wasn’t really a family emergency(I’m sorry if there really was one) and they just wanted to take the rest of the day off it was cool for them to care enough to call. They did not disappoint. Thanks for putting out something cultural and unique and sharing it with the world.

One of the six-to-ten food carts I bookmarked to try while in Portland for the week. I drove out of my way to find this pod, and this was the only truck open that really caught my eye– lefses are pretty unique, and with a BF who hails from Russia, the salmon one was a must-have. Also gave the pickled herring a try, too. For starters, the lefse is a thin Norwegian flatbread, baked on a griddle, consisting of no dairy or eggs, and is gluten-free. We opted for the Akevitt-cured smoked salmon with dill crème fraiche, pickled shallots, and watercress. Though the leftse was served almost warm, the fish inside is cold(heads up!) — the combination of dill sauce, shallots, and watercress make for an interesting and complex meal. Pickled herring is one of my BF’s favorite foods from home– if you’re familiar with herring in fur coat, that’s basically his favorite dish. The version presented here was a little different than he prefers, but tasty and flavorful, and well worth the $ 3 price tag. Signage up at the trailer indicates that the owners are currently going through a family emergency, and their hours may not be consistent. Edited to add: according to their website, May 17 will be their last day of business as a food truck. Sad to hear they’re closing, but understand their reasons why and wish them the best in future ventures. Glad I got a chance to try them while I could. NEWEDIT: THEYREBACK. From their website: After a brief hiatus, we reopened on July 17, 2014, serving our Norwegian lefse and other Scandinavian goodies on a limited basis, just 3 days per week.

VIKINGBURRITOS!!! Did that get your attention? :D I was intrigued by Viking Soul Food’s adorable name and the Scandinavian inspired menu. The food was so good that we ate here twice while visiting Portland. On our first visit, we had the meatball lefse(lefse is like a Norwegian thin flatbread) which had a yummy cheese sauce and red cabbage and it was DELICIOUS. We also had a sweet lefse which had lingonberries with cream cheese and it was also really really tasty. We came back the next day to try two more different lefses — we tried the salmon lefse with the dill sour cream and the veggie lefse which had mushroom and hazelnut patties and blue cheese. Both were also very tasty. But the meatball lefse was my favorite of these amazing viking burritos. I haven’t tried a lot of food carts in Portland, but so far, this is my hands down favorite!!! Also, the cart itself is cute too — it’s like a silver trailer and has Viking decorations at the window where you order. And if you take a look at the business card, one of the people’s business title is «Viking Descendant.» So. Awesome.
