Fantastic staff and Dr! Hadn’t had my eyes checked in a looooong time because it’s just too scary to me but the staff and Dr really put me at ease from the moment I walked in. Great selection of frames and excellent customer service. I’m very happy with my new glasses!!!

We LOVE Uptown Eyecare!!! The staff is fabulous; super friendly and personable. And, they have great frames that stay current to trends. This place has remained constant in quality and efficiency over the four years we’ve been to them and highly recommend them.

After a lifetime of only needing reading glasses and being told I had a slight astigmatism, I was talked into $ 800 glasses (the frames were under $ 200, which is the cheapest they have at Uptown) with «HD» progressive lenses. When my glasses came in I could not see through them. I was instructed by the staff that I just needed to get used to them. They told me I needed to learn to see with them by pointing my nose at things.
Struggling with the glasses (who wants to think they’ve wasted $ 800?), I learned that Dr. Friberg’s explanation of progressive lenses wasn’t very reality based. She told me, essentially, that they were a different kind of lens that gave me the perfect prescription for every line of vision. Uh. No. Technology isn’t QUITE there yet. Dr. Friberg got the lab they use to make me trifocals with no obvious line on the front. That’s all progressives are. I’ve shown those glasses to two subsequent optometrists (separate people who have examined my eyes in the same way she did) who’ve shuddered. My next prescription was the same as the one before Dr. Friberg’s office.
Dr. Friberg had a very strong sense that I should order the lenses with Uptown because other progressives don’t work the same «HD» magic. That I need to choose from among these frames, because they work best with progressives. Since my experience here, I have been very careful to visit independent optometrists. I don’t think the person recommending glasses and lenses should be the person examining your eyes; there’s a conflict of interest. There are notable exceptions and good people, but Dr. Friberg isn’t one of them.

Terrific experience. After going all over town to find glasses that I liked, I found multiple pairs here. Turns out my prescription was expired so they got me right in and I found the doctor to be very knowledgable and friendly. If you have a small face, definitely check out Uptown — they carry multiple brands that really work for those of us that have small heads. It’s so great to have glasses that actually fit!

I think this Doctor is the best I have ever seen! I moved here a year ago and when my contacts ran out recently I had to find an optometrist here in PDX. I did an internet search because no one could refer me to a good eye doctor… and I sure am glad the search led me to Uptown EyeCare! The doctor and staff were all so helpful and very kind! She was genuinely concerned with helping out my vision problems and fitting me w the most comfortable perscription. In all the years that I have been wearing glasses/​contacts I have never had such great service! I deffinately recommend Dr. Friberg!

The Doctor does a good job of finding the correct prescription for your glasses, the problem comes when you order glasses from them, they are unable to deliver. I paid $ 765 for a pair of glasses, they told me I would receive them in 1 to 2 weeks. As of today, it has been 40 days and I still have not received the glasses. They refuse to return my money. They have essentially stolen my money.

Dr. Zuzana Friberg was smart, thorough, and friendly. I saw her because I got an eye infection while traveling in Portland. She really went the extra mile, spending extra time to research which of several drugs would work well and cost less. I’ve been going to optometrists for 25 years and she was the best so far.

I’m updating my review of 2010 to reflect another two years of great service by this office. I find them consistently performing at high levels of customer service regarding the patient’s health and pocketbook. If I seem enthused, that’s only because I’ve had horrible experiences with other optometry offices and want to give these guys credit. It’s nice to be remembered by name, and not treated as a number/​revenue source.
Doctor Friberg demonstrates clear concern for her patient’s well-​being. She takes the time to explain everything she’s doing, why, and what the results suggest. She is clearly interested in making sure the patient is well-​informed of the state of their eyes and the options available. In addition, unlike other Optometrists I’ve visited she is clearly interested in developing a long-​term relationship with her patients.
Katie and Torrey work the front office, and have been immensely helpful with everything from scheduling, billing, fitting, and repairs. I had a warranty issue in 2011 and my lenses were replaced quickly and without hassle. Also, during my last visit i was referred to an outside clinic that has specialized equipment, and they made sure the visit was as smooth and seamless as possible.
Check these guys out, your eyeballs will leave smiling.

After choosing Uptown Eyecare & Optical based on the positive Unilocal reviews, I have to agree that this place is great. The staff are upbeat and professional, the office is clean and pleasant, and I had a very positive eye exam experience with Dr. Chewerda. The staff answered my insurance questions, made checking in and out a breeze, and helped me to select a new pair of glasses from their extensive range of options. Overall, I really appreciated the friendly and efficient service, and I will definitely be returning here again.

Been seeing (thanks to her! haha) Dr. Friberg for two years now. She has a great personality and a very patient-​centered approach. I recommend her!

I love this place! The staff is so friendly and helpful. They took care of all my insurance before I came in. The doctor and the office staff were professional and nice.
I had a regular exam and then picked out my first pair of glasses. They have a huge selection and are able to order more. I got my classes sooner than they predicted: less than a week. I have also gone back in to have them re-​flitted because i’m obsessive. they have been great!

I received a message from the office manager Katie, stating that I could come in (again) and get my contact lens prescription properly adjusted after Uptown’s doctor gave me a prescription that was too weak. I was told that they would be happy to make another appointment for me, that is, after I pay ANOTHER $ 39. (Also, I am out $ 65 for the 2 boxes of contacts that they will not exchange for the correct prescription.) I find this ridiculous. What poor customer service. My prescription is WRONG. My vision is blurry at the fault of their doctors, not due to my vision changing wildly as they want me to believe. I have had the same prescription for over a year and it was fine. Now I am expected to pay for their mistakes. I have been a happy patient of Uptown for a few years up until this point. The trust is now gone. Not only do I have zero faith in the ability of Uptown’s doctors to accurately assess my vision, I also feel that their main motive is to make money. Not only is my prescription wrong for the 2^nd time, but they will not make it right unless I pay more, thanks to the loophole in their policy. All I can say is, word of mouth is powerful.

I had to get someone to repair my Von Zipper sunglasses. One of the arms were twisted and one of the lens popped out (I sort of got mad and threw them across the room one night). Katie Hammel & Torrey Dally at Uptown EyeCare helped me and they repaired my sunglasses for FREE! I couldn’t have been more pleased with their willingness to help me. Thanks ladies! =)

Dr. Zuzana Friberg is a fabulous optometrist (eye check-​er-​uper)!
(There are also hip glasses, but I can’t comment on those since I already have plenty.)
I’ve had laser eye surgery (PRK. The laser was, in fact, mounted on the head of a shark. He was a very skilled surgeon.) so I carefully have my eyes checked annually, and thus go to proper opto-​checker-​uper, not a «how many fingers am I holding up?» one.
Dr. Zuzana went above and beyond — not only did she do the usual comprehensive check (and was cheerful, enthusiastic, and happy to geek out and explain what was going on), but she also carefully noted the position of a freckle in my eye (no, my hair’s not red) so that future docs could find it, and gave me printouts of the shape of my cornea. (These are now my desktop background. Well, not really.)
Oh, and white-​water rafting tips. (You know you’re in Portland when …)
I didn’t have present need for glasses, so I couldn’t avail myself of their opticianal services (spectacle-​monger), but the kind optician kindly tightened and cleaned my glasses, just because they’re cool like that.
So Uptown gets my whole-​hearted (4 chambers) endorsement!

I decided to go to Uptown Eye Care and Optical after I had a very bad experience at Eye Health NW. I can’t say enough how friendly and helpful Dr. Friberg was and how wonderful Katie was (the office manager). They made me feel so comfortable and didn’t try to pressure me into anything. Dr. Friberg was very detailed with all the information given to me and I will recommend this place to everyone. I took a chance by going here because it wasn’t through a referral, but I am SO glad that I did!

My wife and I have both used Uptown for glasses, so my review relates to optician service only (not optometrist). We got great service — above and beyond. We both had bad experiences with eye exams elsewhere and as a result both brought bad prescriptions to Uptown. My wife’s Rx was closer to reality than mine — when the glasses were made she could see fine except at distance. She went back to Uptown and they suggested she revisit her optometrist. She did and, on re-​exam, they changed her Rx. Uptown processed this as «Dr. error» and made another set of glasses at no charge. My Rx (again, not from Uptown) was ridiculously off. Uptown caught this based on comparison of the Rx to my existing glasses (with which I could see better than ²⁰⁄₂₀) and (once again) suggested I revisit the optometrist. I did (see my review of Broadway Vision World) and returned to Uptown with a new Rx. My new glasses are great and I can see better than ever. I call that great service. Katy is the best.

Uptown Eye Care and Optical is a great eye clinic with personalized service and wonderful customer care. My favorite part about this clinic is the amazing selection of designer glasses and sunglasses. The frames are to-​die-​for, so cross your fingers to score low on that eye exam so you can cash in on those insurance benies and upgrade to some sassy readers for your stylish face.
