I’ve been to Toast a couple of times over the last year. The first two times, I wasn’t overly impressed, but it wasn’t terrible. On Mother’s Day, my boyfriend and I decided to try it out one last time. We were seated fairly quickly, but the waitress did not come back to our table for another 15 minutes. We ordered drinks, which were incredibly overpriced(Mother’s Day«special»), but I expected that so I wasn’t too surprised. My boyfriend ordered the French toast(the safest choice in my opinion) and I ordered one of the breakfast sandwich specials they had that had pulled pork on it. It sounded delicious but what I got was disgusting. For starters, it was cold. The English muffin was so soggy there was no way I could ever pick it up. The pulled pork was sickly sweet and acidic and didn’t go along with anything on the plate. The egg had absolutely no seasoning on it and the cheese wasn’t even melted. There was no thought put into this plate whatsoever… Which was really unfortunately because it was being sold for $ 16! I have no idea how these guys stay in business, truly.

Would not recommend it. Price to high for something you could make at home. Waitress having an attitude about splitting the check 2 ways. The only thing was good was blood orange mimosa.

This review is long overdue. Toast is hands down my favourite brunch spot in PDX. Let me tell you, it is small and mighty! Recently(the last two years or so), I’ve become and avid bruncher(yes, this is a thing) and I’ve gone back so many times I’ve tried everything on the menu and have started to tell my server to just, «surprise me». And when I say I’ve NEVER been disappointed, I mean it. From the wait(usually about fifteen minutes) I can tell that I’m not the only one with an affinity for this quaint breakfast spot. One of my favourite things about Toast is probably the daily ‘Blue plate special’. I’ve been wowed by the meals on the board numerous times. Not only does the board feature meal specials but there is usually a delicious pastry they’ll give you a sample of the minute you sit down(I usually take one to go). The staff is really friendly and they’re always down to answer any questions you may have. I took a friend today, he ordered the, Go Home Thomas, after his meal he exclaimed, «best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had, hands down.» Needless to say, we’ll be back. If you haven’t tried toast, I encourage you to do so. And if you have, go again!

What’s the big fuss over Toast? I was recommended the Big Ass sandwich which consisted of two wimpy bacon strips, a weak schemear of goat cheese, eggs and frisée. Oh, right, the rosti– greasy goo disk accompanied this sadness. Utterly bland. BTW, if you’re in the food biz serving paying customers have the decency to season the food before sending it out! I know it’s simple grub but give a damn.

I wrote my first 5-star review of Toast back in 2011. It remains a 5-star experience all these years later. The Go Home Thomas has been my go-to meal here at Toast since 2011. I’m a creature of habit. I find something I like. I stick with it. Recently, however, I strayed from Thomas, and I had a mind-blowing breakfast experience the likes of which did not seem possible. I tried the Fleece was White as Snow. Thick cut toast slathered with a mint pesto sauce, piled with sauteed kale and braised lamb shoulder, and topped with an egg. And yes, there was a potato rosti on the side. Holy mother of all breakfast creation. This dish has reinvigorated my admiration of Toast as well as my desire to go there on the regular. They still have a a great selection of(ahem, pint-sized) breakfast cocktails, and they still offer a self-serve coffee-while-you-wait option. Brilliance all around!

most of the stuff is too expensive and the thing that’s $ 9 was just fine. it took a really long time and tha bitches sitting near me were mediocre conversationalists ATBEST. that’s not factored into my rating, just feel the need to get that off my chest. i’m still here. they’re still talkin’. idiots.

Located walking distance to where I stayed, this looked cute and promising! It wasn’t bad, but I wasn’t incredibly impressed. It probably gets a 3.4 in my books. Small, diner-like with big open windows to make it bright, it was intimidate and could only hold so many tables with an extra back room. The menu wasn’t too riveting, but I got the bad ass sandwich and the friend got eggs Benedict. Mine came with bacon and I’m surprised they didn’t have a meat substitute, but the waitress asked if my friend wanted to eat the bacon… that’s something I usually ask for, but I had this weird hint that she was into him. NBD to me, but she was a bit offstandish to me and yet really really nice to him. Soooo funny. Has little to do with the review, though. Well, maybe. My sandwich was oook. The bread was similar to Texas toast — thick and light, but I don’t really like that. And the fried eggs just seemed semi cooked over easy. And it was really over easy… still lots of egg white that hadn’t changed properties and become actually white(still clear). When I read fried egg, I expect the egg to be fried and crisp on the outside with a good egg porn action when you cut into the yolk. But hey, eggs are hard to cook correctly… The sandwich was fine. Had arugula and egg and this Rosti potato cake on the side. It’s a German/Swiss thing and almost like a latke. I liked it but it wasn’t flavorful enough for me, so I added ketchup. Usually you do, so I guess that’s no big deal. He liked his Benedict but he was super hungry so not sure I could read his review right ha. Pleasant, but not thrilling. I’d say skip it and try sweedeedee or some other more highly acclaimed place unless you’re in the area.,

EXTREMELYUNDERWHELMED!!! If you are looking for a Portland good food place, this is not it! Bread is basic — tastes like it was bought from WinCo and didn’t have gluten free options. Hashbrowns are so basic. The prices are WAY too high for the quality of food — each breakfast entrée is around $ 13-$ 16 and it should be an average of $ 8-$ 9 at most.

Food took 50 minutes. No gluten free bread. This is Portland-i don’t understand how there could be no gf bread at a place called toast. The hangar steak I ordered looked more like hamburger. For $ 15 I would have expected something a little better. I had to use my friends napkin to sop off all the grease that pooled on my plate. It was super loud and cramped. Doubt I’ll go back.

Amazing food, friendly service and self serve coffee while you wait! First timer, and I was impressed. I would definitely recommend this brunch restaurant… So long as you have time to wait for a little bit. I went on a Sunday around 1pm and it was insanely busy.

Parking: Extremely bad Food: some excellent(Eggs Benedict), some terrible:(hash browns) Price: The worst I have see. I had the above breakfast and a cup of tea and it cost me $ 20 Service: bad — they seated me and ask if I wanted a cup of coffee, I said no because I do not drink coffee. I waited 15 minutes, while others were seated and orders taken then I ASKED if I could get a cup of tea. Atmosphere: cramped

This is a great little breakfast/brunch spot. I met a friend of mine here for breakfast, initially because it was equidistant to our houses. We sat outside and loved it. I ordered the french toast which came with two big pieces of bacon, fresh berries and just enough syrup. The price was about $ 1 too much for breakfast– but I’m very stingy! I’d love to go back again.

This is a fresh, friendly, solid choice for breakfast. A lovely assortment of choices(but not too many to be overwhelmed), attentive staff and a clean, straightforward environment. The menu is thoughtful and delicious. Haven’t tried it for lunch, I can’t make it past breakfast!

I did’t like the food to be honest… it had no flavor. I wanted to try this place for years but was sadly disappointed.

The best biscuits and gravy I have ever had going out to breakfast. The house potatoes are also the bomb. They come with shallots and grain mustard I think. I believe the cook them in bacon fat omg. Got there before they opened and they did not get busy until about 30 minutes after opening. The portion size was great and the waitress was fabulous.

Toast is everything a brunch place should be: small, adorably decorated, good coffee, friendly staff, and amazing food! This is not your typical greasy spoon diner though; which you may think it is upon first entertaining. They are taking typical brunch/breakfast fare to the next level. Let me tell you about my glorious experience… A friend and I arrived at 11:15am on a Sunday — prime brunching time. We put our name on the list, I think there three other groups ahead of us. They have self serve coffee for you while you wait — something I always appreciate. Our wait was modest, only about 20 minutes I want to say, not too shabby! We were seated at the bar, which I often enjoy because you get watch the magic in the kitchen happen. I ordered the Americanized Croque Monsieur — which is basically a Croque Madame. My friend got the Go Home Thomas — a fancy version of the classic breakfast sandwich. The Croque Monsier was stellar! It also came accompanied with a yummy green salad. Everything was executed to perfection: the ham was thinly sliced and stacked, the gruyère was melted perfectly, eggs perfectly sunny side up, and the mornay sauce was thick and decedent! My friend loved her sandwich which featured two scrambled eggs, house ground sausage, a house made English muffin, and greens! On the side was what they call a potato rosti — which seemed like a cross between hash browns and a latke. She loved it! I really enjoy and appreciate when a place takes the extra effort to make most of their stuff in house and uses local ingredients too. Toast is a shinning star in a city full of delectable brunch places. I will say it is a bit pricey, but I will gladly pay a higher price tag for high quality delicious food. I am already planning my next visit to Toast! Start planning yours as well.

Parking is not the best during the week as you will need to find parking along the street in the residential area. So I managed to sneak in on a balmy rainy day right before the crowds began to trickle in and was seated quickly followed by the complementary scones. Ordered the all about pumpkin tart, The gatherer, space cowboy(orange juice, ginger ale, grapefruit juice and orange flower water) and the Ginger Lemonade(orange juice, ginger ale, and lemonade). Both of the drinks were unique bc I’ve never had a drink like this and bet they taste amazing in a warm summer day. The gathers(a small skillet) had oven roasted potatoes w other veggies topped with a sunny side egg and was delicious! The all about pumpkin was a small tart topped w a poached egg cooked to perfection. The crust on the tart was out of this world crispy and and the pumpkins filling was very rich and creamy. I can tell the cook took his/her time preparing this little masterpiece. Will def be coming back and trying the pork belly w duck egg. ENJOY!

Good tasty food. But part of the decision to come here was proximity. Needed quick and close. We came in at 1240 pm, Thursday and it was easy in and out. Had the«not so dismal» cause I’m a sucker for anything hangar steak. Add the white cheddar and I’m sold. Having said that, I needed to add salt and hot sauce and ketchup. Good ingredients, just a tad lacking in flavor. Had the griddled coffecake which was hot and crisp on the edges but again, lacking in achieving the next level. Would not order it again. However, the ginger lemonade was outta this world.

We decided to try something new and none of us had been to Toast before – we have driven by it all the time and it has good reviews. We planned to meet up at 11am for Sunday brunch. There were groups of people outside waiting when I arrived. Surprisingly, it only took 15 minutes or so for a table to become available. Your whole party as to be present to be seated but they ended up seating us and the last person came a couple minutes later. My friends had coffee and I ordered a Conscious. I don’t know why it took awhile for my drink to come out, I had to remind the server when she took our food orders. Ordered two of the Bad Ass Sandwich, one with bacon and the other with sausage, and the Not So Dismal. I had the Bad Ass Sandwich and I was disappointed. The sandwich is served between two thick slices of white toast. That’s cute, Toast serving toast. It was so dry and the bread cut my mouth a little. I ended up deconstructing my sandwich to make it palatable. The sausage wasn’t very flavorful and I was questioning if they forgot the goat milk cheese because I was expecting a tangy flavor. Some acid or that tang was needed to break up the heaviness of all the components. Overall, dry and needed some kind of sauce because the egg yolk was not enough moisture. Potato Rosti was the opposite, oily and soggy. I was talking to a co-worker about it and he commented«there is something off about it.» I agree, the atmosphere and food wasn’t quite there for me. I hate leaving a place feeling greasy. Later in the afternoon, my friend text me that she had a stomachache. That’s unfortunate.
