Mmmmmm Mmmmmm finger licking good! Hot Box Barbecue has it down when it comes to pulled pork… And their tangy homemade peach barbecue sauce is scrumptious! Located in the South Waterfront’s newest food cart pod«The Gantry», they are open Monday-Friday 11 – 7 pm… Rain or shine. They smoke their own meat and tofu here to perfection. My favorite sandwich is «The Original» with smoked pulled pork or smoked tofu, homemade coleslaw, mayo and homemade peach BBQ sauce on a brioche bun. Yummy! I also enjoy the«The Maui Wowie» with smoked pulled pork or smoked tofu, pineapple, pickled onion, fresh lettuce, mayo and homemade peach BBQ sauce on a brioche bun. All sandwiches come with crinkle cut potato chips. Get there early because I have noticed sometimes they are out of certain items later in the day or evening and you wouldn’t want that to happen. 2015-117

As far as options near OHSU go, this was pretty delicious. The volcano sandwich is a winner. I recommend getting your sandwich/sliders and going across the street to the scout beer garden to eat it with a beer.

We just had the volcano and nom nom pulled pork sandwiches and they were fantastic! The pork had the perfect moisture and smokiness and the sauces where off the hook. Thanks Hot box for giving us one of the best food truck meals in Portland!

Very disappointed. I ordered the Volcano sandwich with a side of coleslaw. The coleslaw was room-temperature with an unpleasant, bitter taste. But what was worse was that it was so wet with dressing that when I pulled the sandwich out of the container there was a few tablespoons worth of fluid that collected in the bottom of the box. The sandwich was probably pretty good, but the bun was drenched in fluid runoff from the coleslaw. The worst thing was that halfway through making my sandwich the lady working there accepted some money from another customer, then went back to making my sandwich without changing her gloves. I worked at a fast-food chain as a young man, and say what you want about fast-food chains but that would never have happened at our store.

Solid pulled pork sandwiches! Everything was well considered and really tasty. We got the Volcano and the Maui Wowie. Both were piled high and a little sloppy, but well worth the mess.

Attention Vegetarians… they know how to make a tofu sandwich and they may have redefined how we eat tofu. Big old slab of smokey delicious tofu and they will sub on any sandwich for no charge. I had the Volcano and it was insanely good. Tofu, a great bun, jalapeño jelly and siracha mayo. Plus crispy onions? Every bite was amazing and not the normal lame tofu sandwich you get when your friends are chowing on pulled pork. And if you are an omnivore then if they can do this well with tofu I can imagine that the pulled pork is off the hook. The cart does not look super exciting but the magic is all inside. Run… don’t walk and get yourself and sandwich.

I ordered the original pork sandwich today and it was really good. I am not a big fan of sandwiches but this place surprised me. The pork is smoky and tender. Love it!

Just had the Maui Wowie and it was great! This is some of the best pulled pork I’ve had. It didn’t turn to mush and it had a good amount of pork flavor that wasn’t masked by sauce. Smoke shells were great too! Perfect rainy food. The cart pod could use a heater and better covers though.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! Dan,(the owner of the truck) is super nice and took his time to explain everything and even comp’d us the smoky Mac and Cheese with my order of the Original. The pork is just smoky goodness and just right. Moist, amazing sauce, but with a great bun that soaks up all the sauce. I loved this place so much, I went back the next night and got the ribs which were out of this world! A not to miss place if you are hanging around Sellwood.

I hope I got the name right for this truck. Located in the Sellwood cart pod at 13th and Lexington, they just opened on the day after Thanksgiving. The truck advertises«Humboldt County BBQ»; I’m not sure how that compares to KC or Memphis BBQ, so we stopped in today to see how they stack up. I ordered the ribs at $ 12, and my wife had their basic pulled pork sandwich with slaw for $ 8. They also offer a few other pulled pork options, such as Maui Wowee, with a slaw made with pineapple, and Sorta Torta with crema, avocado, etc. The order took about ten minutes, which isn’t unreasonable, but there were only two of us waiting for our orders. I’m not sure what would happen if there were ten people wanting their food on a lunch hour break. We took our food home, and it was still warm when we got there. The pulled pork was nicely smokey and generous, with the tangy slaw complimenting it. The bun was fresh, and there were chips on the side. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and moist. The BBQ sauce was very flavorful, with just enough heat to make it interesting. There were two sides with the ribs, a helping of slaw and an interesting corn bread chunk. The slaw, like the sauce, has a hint of heat, but I’m not sure what ingredient is responsible for it. Overall, very good food for a reasonable price. They roast their meat on the premises, and make their own sauce, slaw and other sides. I could see them in a store front at some point, and I hope it’s here in Sellwood. Reverend’s BBQ, down the street, could learn from these guys, and will face some stiff competition if they don’t pay attention.
