Had to have the food truck experience while in Portland. We were actually searching for the trucks a block away, but SO glad we stumbles on this place! Had spicy basil chicken, which was FABULOUS, and perhaps overly generous. Perfect spice for the mild(I was asked… went mild and glad I did. Medium might have put me over the edge a bit). Fresh peppers, tomatoes and chicken that was just perfect. Will be trying to get back before I’m heading back home!

I’ve always wanted to come here, especially after witnessing a man come by with a reusable container and the Thai Herbs owner filled it up for him– no words exchanged, just food and cash! :) I was boring and got pad kee mao– it was exactly what I wanted: lots of veggies and tofu(my «meat» of choice), fresh, hot, filling all for 6 bucks. He didn’t ask how spicy I wanted it and it came actually pretty spicy(which I like!) but if you are adverse to spicy, let him know!

I freakin’ love Thai Herb food cart. The cart sticks to a classic food cart design. You know, it looks a little trashy, but every bit of food coming out of it tastes amazing and fresh. With all the fancified carts popping up around Thai Herbs, I fear that it may be hard for them to compete. But I am here to tell you that their food is some of the best and most affordable in town. It is still possible to pay only $ 6 for a plate of food and a drink!!! Thank the lord and thank Thai Herb Food Cart! In fact, the lunch plates are usually large enough to last into dinner. It’s simply the best. DO try their curries. You will not be hungry or sorry afterwards. DO tip the nice people who make the food for you. They are sweet and generous and totally deserve the extra change. Have fun cart shopping and don’t forget to check this place out.

Pretty basic Thai food here. The ingredients are fresh, so big plus there, but the flavor it is a little lacking. I got Pad Khing served in a biodegradable carton, but the main course was wrapped in foil. Tons and tons of rice was included and the whole course was very filling, plus it came with a soda for $ 6.00. The line was short, the guy was sweet and it was good enough. The big draw here is the freshness of ingredients. There are tons of Thai options on this cart block, though.

I had heard of this«food cart» thing and was intrigued by the idea. So, these things aren’t taco trucks as I know them in L.A. These carts are all different. Some look like mini RVs and I think most are mobile though it doesn’t look like they move off from the parking lot they were parked in. After going round and round, I chose to get a red curry with tofu from this food cart. It was $ 5 which included a free drink. I opened up the box and was pleasantly surprised to see it was in one of those biodegradable bamboo take-out boxes. There was a ton of rice. And it was good rice. I was shocked. I don’t think I have ever had such good rice anywhere before. Okay, maybe this is a hyperbole but I have definitely never seen long-grain rice from a Thai take-out place. I had seen them actually chop the vegetables and cook the curry to my requested medium-spice. Very impressive for a «food cart.» Wow! The only thing was they wouldn’t give me a spoon so I didn’t eat most of my curry since eating curry with chopsticks is a damn near impossible task. Cash only.

Besides the excellent Thai Herb in Multnomah Village, there is a food cart owned by the same folks, with much of the same menu in the«food cart row» at SW10th&SW Washington(across the street from the Portland Culinary Institute). The most excellent feature of this cart(besides the quality and quantity of the food) is the very inexpensive price. The majority of dishes are $ 5 and include a soda or bottled water. There can(at times) be a short wait for your food as the cart is usually busy, but it is well worth the few extra minutes, given the quality, quantity and cost of the food.
