Really nice and clean place. Customer service is amazing and so is the food. Definitely coming back again.

This review is for the Tom Yum noodle soup. It’s sweet, it’s spicy, and possibly some of the best ramen/soup I’ve eaten. Absolutely perfect for this frigid winter day.

I never tried a Thai/Japanese fusion restaurant before so I was skeptical. I ordered the Sake Tom Yum Noodle Soup — The noodles tasted fresh and the soup was perfect(not too sweet and not too spicy). My sister got the Ramen and she said the broth was delicious. We ordered adegashi tofu and Thai donuts– both were yummy but definitely not worth $ 5 – 6 each. Service was great and attentive.

I ordered the Sushi Lunch Combo and it came with 6 variety pieces of sushi and 4 California rolls. The sushi was great and they were super fast at bring out the food. We also got some Pork Gyoza, which was fabulous. I recommend this place to anyone craving some reasonably priced, high quality sushi in downtown Portland.

We looked on Unilocal for a nearby place to eat lunch in downtown Portland today and picked Sake because it had an average 4.5 star rating. I’m guessing other people must’ve had a completely different experience than us, however, or today was an off day because we didn’t enjoy our meal at all. We shared a spicy tuna roll and got individual entrees for lunch: Mike got the garlic chicken and I got a California roll, tofu red curry lunch special. Our meal started with miso soup, which was lukewarm at best. Our rolls, which are usually served cold, were warm. Our entrees were decent, but we both had upset stomachs within a couple hours after eating lunch here. In addition to the subpar food, our service was also pretty bad: the service was very slow and our server didn’t bring us soy sauce with our starting sushi roll– I had to go up to the bar to get it from him. There were only a couple other customers in the restaurant when we were in there, so poor service doesn’t seem excusable. Mike and I don’t live in Portland, instead we visit once a year when we are in town for the holidays with my family, so we aren’t candidates to be regular customers, but we certainly won’t come back again when we are in town next year.

I’m not sure if I would call this place a fusion restaurant, but it certainly takes after each other in terms of flavors and offerings. Overall, this place is definitely more Thai, even if the décor tries to be otherwise with their cute bonsai trees and row of sake bottles. I took my family here during our last night in Portland. They were craving Thai and Japanese, so this place seemed to offer the best of both worlds. We asked for a table 15 minutes ahead of time and they were able to seat us. At first glance, the menu looks very Japanese, but once you dip into the flavors, you’ll see the Thai influences. The Tom Yum soup was pretty good; all the right spices were there, but there could’ve been a little more chili. The Rainbow Roll was basic with the cuts of fish being decent enough. In terms of the Japanese soup offerings, the miso soup was definitely a MISS. The broth was laughably light and the noodles felt like packages instant ramen. However, our two large bowls of udon were the closest things to authentic flavors out of everything. So good ambience, and good food. However, if you’re looking for rockstar Japanese fare, I think you are better off elsewhere. The Thai flavors definitely stood out and I would likely order just those options. But given the amount of Thai food trucks in town, you may find yourself in luck somewhere else.

Their Pad Thai is excellent. This place is definitely ran as a family business. We got there right at 5 luckily because the crowd poured in on a Tuesday night. Very filling, prices are a little expensive on the sushi menu

This is the first location and second on hawthorne Blvd both are it’s nice The place is neat and modern looking. The fact that it’s a new location also helps it look really clean. The sushi is just great. Most important it’s very fresh. You can really define a sushi place by how much salmon they place on the roll, in this case it’s more than sufficient. Server was very friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. Great place to go in downtown portland. !!

This place has a mellow local vibe, for real, bonsai trees and sake bottles make up the decore. The menu has some great specials, I always thinks it’s weird when resturants have a chalkboard with items that are also on a more permanent menu calling them specials, it’s okay right. Sometimes you walk into a place amd you see something on the menu that pops out at you. In this case for me it was the crispy chicken with tamarind sauce. It’s no easy choice at Sake. Curry, ramen, teriyaki, sushi and a huge variety of other entrees. The chicken hit the spot, so did the spicy hand roll I had. I got to try the tonkatsu ramen, the flavor was pretty good, most importantly the noodles had perfect texture. Overall this place is way above average. I found the air conditioner a bit to much. The service was great. I’ll go back again.

I didn’t even know about this place until my girlfriend took me here. I was very skeptical because either go to Thai food or Japanese food not both at the same time. Seems a bit much to me. Well, What do I know… We ordered Thai noodles soup and sushi, turned out to be great combinations after all.

Love the décor of the place, especially the seating arrangements. The workers were extremely friendly and we got seated right when we got in. The food was kinda pricey compared to most sushi places, does not have typical bento box meal. But the quality of the food was really good, especially the dragon roll. Another thing I like was the mix with tai food, it was a great combo. Overall good experience and definitely recommend –Only con dinner special was $ 18 for a small chicken pad tai and California roll.

A great meal in an unexpected city… Portlandia! This place has a great vibe and food to match. Combined with a knowledgeable staff, and amazing sake selection, it is definately one of the highlights of this beautiful city! If you are a first timer to the sake experience, be sure to ask Forrest for a recommendation!

Very accommodating for my little vegan clan! Yummy veggie maki. Pad See Ew was a little too oily for my taste but overall great!

Food: average or below average(ground chicken-bad, spice-good) Service: Poor Atmosphere: ok — intimate(small) and quiet Server hardly checked in and we sat for 20 – 30 minutes waiting for any food to come out. During that time we never got a drink refresh or a comment that our food would be coming soon — just ignored. The food was not worth the wait.

20 minutes and still waiting to cash out with my cc sitting untouched. I order 3 different rolls. The spicy tuna was NOT fresh. Unagi was delicious. Spider roll could have been a bit crispier but it was okay. The restaurant was slow when I arrived. It got busy, someone in the kitchen had to come out to assist. The two gals at the front of the house were friendly but still. I probably will not return:(

I love how they serve Thai food and Japanese and sushi! Major mashup happening but either way it worked for my fiancé and I. Got our food in a quick and timely manner, which helps a lot when you’re starving. The place could use a bit more of tidiness and make it more of like a restaurant feel rather than a home where some one on the side has a restaurant.

I have been to Sake twice now… and had a great meal both times. The first time I went, I had their Crab Pad Thai. OMG! This was so good. Lots of REAL crab and awesome pad thai. Last night, hubby and I shared the Rainbow Roll(Sushi) and the Crispy Chicken. Both were outstanding. And the service was amazing. Our waitress was so accommodating and helpful. We started with beer(hubby) and plum wine(me)…good draft beer and it’s hard to have a bad plum wine. We will definitely go back. I’m anxious to try their happy hour, though they don’t have one on weekends, only week nights.

We loved this place. Clean, classy, cool décor. Service was great. It got real crowded while we were there, which was a good sign. Sushi was spot on, as was the soup. We both had salads with the peanut dressing, which were crisp and really good. Lots of left overs for me. They have a good drink selection. I was super glad to find this place after some less-than wonderful Asian dining experiences in Portland.
