So I must admit the cheese steak and the service itself is awesome. But the guy with the pollos hermanos apron and long hair just wasn’t very sanitary about his practices. He handled money from one paying customer and immediately had started making food for myself and other customers. It’s quite gross cause I can’t even imagine how many different bills and times he wiped sweat off his forehead. It’s kind of messed up cause anyone who is serious about working in the food industry should be serious about CONSTANTLY washing their hands. It’s so easy and constantly overlooked but is something that’s ridiculously important. Really didn’t want to make a show of it, just ended up giving the cheese steak to a homeless man after I took one bite and almost threw up because I couldn’t get the image of him not washing his hands. Hopefully management has some type of training with their workers because it’s so simple to just wash your hands. What are you guys going do if an inspector sees that? You’ll get docked points in a heart beat.

The Steaks Fifth Avenue cart brings to Portland some delightful Philly cheesesteak bliss. Although they have one of the very few carts that Pioneer Courthouse Square holds, their fifth and oak location proves convenient. Prices are appropriate and the food good. Chips and soda can each be inexpensively procured on the side. I go here on occasion. It turned out well last time. The sandwich was piping hot when I received it. Had I a few more minutes, I would have waited longer to dig it. The cheese was coherent and they ommitted the peppers upon my request. It felt creamy, great for outside the city of brotherly love, but there is still room for improvement. Add some light to your day with this place.

I was pretty disappointed. Ate here last year — amazing. Everything was perfect(if not close to perfect). Today I happen to be in downtown and felt like visiting one of my favorite burger place. Staff just like before was friendly. However the burger… The meat taste overcooked and was super salty. It was a huge disappointment considering how much I used to love this place

As I was walking up to the counter of this very clean, shiny, and sharp-looking food cart, the owner(I assume) was stepping out onto the sidewalk to take a break, but the minute he saw me, he stepped right back into the cart and took my order. I ordered a cheeseburger(with two slices of cheddar cheese mind you) and ponied up $ 5.50 for what I was sure to be some eating pleasure; it most certainly was. Tomatoes, lettuce, and onions were also offered along with the double-sided cheese, but I demurred on the onions(just don’t like them). I could also have gotten bacon for another dollar, but I was feeling kind of basic, so no bacony goodness today. They also offer double cheeseburgers, Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches, various canned sodas and water, and chips. I’ve not seen this before, but once the owner had toasted the buns for my burger, he sat them down in front of me on a sheet of foil and let me know I should add any condiments from the counter in front of me and hand it all back to him. I thought this was a really efficient use of time for both of us. So while I doctored up the buns, he finished my burger up and put that part of the package under a lid to steam the burger and also melt the cheese perfectly. Once ready to eat, I realized the burger was of high quality meat and was perfectly seasoned. I sat right down there and was filled up pretty fast by this one-third pound burger. I didn’t crave chips or soda today, but if they had had actual fries I’m not sure my fried potato addiction would not have overcome me. Oy, temptation, thy name is french fries. Anyhow, the burger was perfectly housed in it’s Kaiser bun which stood up to all the ingredients but did not allow the burger patty to shoot out when bitten. Nicely done Steaks Fifth Avenue(love the clever name). Your excellently-prepared burger was all I needed for a great meal on this beautiful fall afternoon. Thanks. I will return for one of your Philly Cheesesteaks soon.

YUMMMYUMMMYUMMM! Every time I’m in Portland I’m going to get me a cheesesteak! 2nd best to my own. The chef was very friendly and confident in his skills. I highly recommend checking it out.

This is always a great go-to spot for lunch when I don’t want to stroll too far. The small cheesesteak is big enough for a filling lunch, and the service is generally friendly and quick. He’s been open for quite a few years now, and I’ve eaten here probably 6+ times. The cheesesteaks are consistently tasty, but I probably wouldn’t recommend getting a burger here. Not that they’re bad at all… just that there are better options and their strength is clearly the cheesesteaks.

Best cheese steaks in Portland, hands down. Huge soft rolls, flavor steak, peppers and onions and Ben is a delightful, sardonic food server. This guy knows what he’s doing. You won’t finish one of the cheesesteaks and still feel hungry, unlike some other places within walking distance.

I’m not usually a Philly cheese stake person, but this guy’s was delish! I got the medium and it was a perfect size. He was very friendly and nice and plays music when someone wearing Oregon duck attire walks by. Best food truck I visited.

Fantastic cheesesteaks. Having grown up on the east coast I’ve been to Pat’s and Geno’s in Philly. This is the best cheesesteak outside of the city of brotherly love! Highly recommended!

Went here for lunch with a friend. Since I have IBS I’ve missed my cheese steaks. I know I can’t have onions or bell peppers. But I sure do love me some mushrooms! My sammy was loaded with steak tons of mushrooms and cheese. Noms Noms. Was super good and filling. Amazing

I’m addicted to cheesesteaks. This virtually confirms one of my past lives has Philadelphia roots. I got one large Philly cheesesteak with the works($ 7.50). Thin-sliced sirloin mixed with grilled onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Add white American cheese. Place all in a soft hoagie roll. Cue happy noshing panda. No wonder Chris has been open for such a long time. The cheesesteak was delicious. The sirloin slices were juicy, the veggies still had that awesome crunch, and the white American cheese became that pleasing edible glue to bind it all together. Just as vital was that soft roll. Not only did it hold the filling in place, it gave that bit of relief from the meat/veggie/cheese triple-team. I apparently like food combos triple-teaming my palate into oblivion. Perhaps a bit more meat, veggies, and cheese. Maybe I can get a special order out of that. Super loaded Philly cheesesteak. I’m certainly willing to cough up a few more bucks in that situation. Chris also has 1⁄3 pound Angus beef patties for his burgers. I now suddenly have a vision to combine cheesesteak and cheeseburger in a hoagie roll. And add bacon. Oh, and this spicy panda must have hot sauce with all that. If someone asks for this(or already has done so), let me know how it is. I mean, it has to be epic, right? I think that’s a virtual foodgasm moment. For those who probably missed the memo about a zillion times by now, I am normally weird. Check out Steaks Fifth Avenue ASAP!

I admit to coveting Andrew C.‘s Philly cheese steak a week ago. Having never met him before, I simply drooled in silence and kicked myself for not getting one. PSU food cart flash mob take two. I was a woman on a mission today. I blew past every cart on 4th with one singular goal in mind: Get to that new cart(damn it really is bright) and order up a cheese steak. The cart dude was nice, efficient, and, frankly, working his ass off today. One solitary man. Many, many steak sandwiches. Kind of hot if you ask me. Perfect food cart lunch! Piping hot melted cheese, delicious grilled meat and veggies. Soft sub roll. I may have to make the lunch trek up from Wilsonville more often. Or call in sick and save myself the drive. Awesome lunch. Mission accomplished.

Phillies on the Phly opened their third cart at the PSU pod to offer their tasty Philly cheese steak sandwiches and hamburgers for hungry student — or those such as myself who work nearby. I’ve been to their 5th and Stark location and this sandwich($ 5.75 for a medium) seemed a lot better, for some reason. Maybe I caught the other one on a bad day. It had just the right amount of salt, veggies, cheese and meat. Really good. The guy running the cart is very nice to chat with if you ever want to learn about his experience with food carts. He’s very likable.
