I think this is the third incarnation for this cart by the same owners. They have done food from Kazakhstan and gyros and now the latest is crepes. I tried the nutella and banana crêpe($ 5). The crêpe was warm and springy. It was a good mix of nutella and bananas. It was sweet without being overwhelming. The food was okay. The couple running the place were very friendly and welcoming. Maybe I am food cart elitist bitch, I can accept it if I am but I think these places should do one thing and do it better then anyone else. Maybe this cute cart and the lovely people who run it jut haven’t found their niche yet.

damn. someone beat me to reviewing this place! I don’t know anything about Kazakhstani food, but I saw it on the portland food cart blog and said to myself«when is the next time you will get to try it?» I hopped on my bicycle during lunch, biked there, but i had a hard time finding it! The sign is small for a big chrome food cart. just look for the green kazak flag. The two ladies in there are super friendly, very chatty and definitely authentic… I do sense accents. So my favourite dish is the okra tomato sauce over a bed of wild basmati rice. I also love their other vegetarian alternative, instead of okra you get garlic marinated cauliflower which is pretty good. But okra is rare most of the time so I’m gonna go with the okra. You also get a side of salad! $ 5.50 pretty cheap. I’m a vegetarian so I wouldn’t know how the meat dishes tastes, but they have this meat oriented hearty soup that smelled so good. So far I’ve returned about four times since they opened over the spring. I love a full stomach while biking back to work.

Kazakhstani food? What’s that like? There’s okra — I’m in! Looking over the menu I couldn’t really anticipate what the flavor would be like. Fortunately, they offer a sample of everything. One bite of the Bomae(the okra dish) and I was happy. The okra is mixed in a tomato sauce with onions and spices, all poured over a ton of basmati rice. A side salad with a wee bit too much onion was included — all of $ 5.50. So much food! Most of their dishes are vegetarian, offering a red bean or cauliflower version of the okra dish. There’s also soup and kebabs. Great experience! I would sum this up as Kazakhstani comfort food — it is pretty heavy.
