Sheish Kabob Grill

Excellent lamb shwarma, incredibly friendly service. A great great food cart! !

After ordering I thought to check Unilocal to see what the reviews were like on this place. Little did I know the last ratings were made in 2011! First thought? «Gregg NEEDS to make a review.» Second thought? «Two years since the last reviews!?» and so the review was born.
Hope settled in and I told myself that two years have passed so a lot must have changed. Eh, maybe it did. maybe it didn’t. These are my thoughts…
It seemed a little pricey for what you get. I don’t know what kind of servings you get at the other carts that sell Gyros in the same square block since this is my first time here. What I noticed was that the menu consisted of mainly Gyros so I chose the Beef Gyro. Not too much meat, not too little… hoped for more, though! Especially for the price.
Would I go back/​recommend to a friend? It’s worth a try, but probably not. There are just so many other carts and options in the area it wasn’t as ‘stand out’ as I had hoped to be able to recommend.

Sssssssloooooow. I’m into slow food and all, but this was kinda crazy. Having two orders seemed to discombobulate the two people in the cart. And, the only thing cooked in my order was falafel balls. Seemed pretty pricey compared to the other food carts and based on the food I received.

At $ 8.50 for a lamb gyro, I was a little hesitant, but due to the lack of stands open at 7pm, I gave it a shot regardless. It WAS pretty tasty but they could have put a little more meat for that price. It was flavorful seasoning on the lamb and all the ingredients seemed fresh. However, there are a lot better gyros in town for a better price too! Am I being a cheapskate?

Had the Beef Shawerma for $ 7. Decent gyro, could have used some more spices and flavor, plus the pickles kinda threw off the taste. Just kinda meh, nothing special. Friendly service though and accepts plastic.

Not here to pile-​on an already struggling little food-​cart enterprise or anything…
It’s just that, having JUST had the monster gyro @ El Masry’s cart on SW 3^rd, well, what to say but that a new high water mark has been set for the entire Mediterranean food cart scene, be they Greek, Lebanese, Egyptian, Turkish, or what have you. What to say but that El Masry is the reigning 900 lb. gorilla on this market, and really puts the «Sheeesh!» into Sheish Kabob’s comparatively modest offerings…
Here it is. First, the guy who really did seem nice enough, assured me the order would just take a couple short minutes. I made it clear I was in a rush and had to get to work. Then, 20 minutes later, he tells me he’s out of lamb (which I just so happen to have ordered). Ok, I like chicken too, but why did he have such a limited grasp on his own stock, especially considering I was the only customer, and this was many minutes into the food prep… and how and why did I let his own lack of time management skills adversely affect me?
Why do I put myself in these time crunches? Sheish Kabob stands to lose nothing other than repeat business by random customer (*me*), by being inefficient, whereas I stand to lose quite extensively, time being money, and all. [Note: I did manage to make it to work on time… BARELY. Unusually light traffic volume saved the day…]
All this said, I might be inclined to give Sheish Kabob Grill another try some time, though I would strongly suggest they re-​consider their portion serving sizes, and especially their prices.

This is the kind of dining experience that makes me want to never try new things.
I ordered the lamb kabob plate. After a longer-​than-​average wait, I discovered upon opening the container that it consisted of five tiny pieces of lamb.
«Lamb’s expensive, sure,» I thought. I wasn’t ready to rule it out. But it was still a shockingly small portion for 7 dollars.
«Maybe the sides will be superb,» I thought. They were not. The modest portion of rice was undercooked, and topped with a red rice that was even more undercooked. It was almost inedible. The salad had a heavy dressing, which I’m not into, but that’s just me, and there was one grilled tomato. I’ll admit, I didn’t eat the tomato, but I’m still going to comment. Someone just wrote a book about how tomatoes are flavorless. After eating the lamb and the rice, I had lost faith that this tomato was going to turn that trend around.
This place made me start a Unilocal account, just to write this review. This place almost made me yearn for a smart phone, so I can Unilocal every place I go before I go there. I can’t afford it, but I’ll open a credit card account and go into debt, just to avoid places like this in the future.
Maybe their gyros are okay.

First time at this cart so let’s look at what we’ve got.
1. Nice staff
2. Decent menu, mostly sandwiches (gyro variety) but also some plates with rice and sides.
3. Pretty average pricing.
For my inaugural visit and since this is billed as a «Mediterranean» grill I had to go for the shawarma. I tend to veer towards chicken most of the time but I think you can tell a bit more about how folks cook if you sample the lamb so I opted for the ‘lamb shawarma sandwich’.
Initial impression was that it certainly looked like the real deal with tomatoes, pickles, tahini, and salad. It also actually tasted really good. The lamb had nice flavor to it, wasn’t too gamy, it was a sandwich I would certainly eat again. Also, since they have other things to try (such as their felafel) I will have to make a few trips to really round out my experience of this cart. So for a first trip I’m giving it a solid 3 star rating. One thing I might want to see more of is the meat. I know it’s all about cost when running a small business but for $ 6.50 just a tad more to fatten up the sandwich could push this closer to a 4 star.
