My girlfriend and I are very satisfied customers of this studio for both hair and nails. The studio itself is very clean, and the staff are very friendly and easy to work with. I honestly haven’t had this good of a haircut in a very long time, all for a very decent price.
My girlfriend has always received top not service for her nails, and has never been disappointed. Perhaps someday we might book a couples pedicure, but I don’t think I would ever subject anyone to the horribleness of my feet, but I’m sure if I did, we would be in good hands.

One of the best haircuts we ever had for a very reasonable price. My wife and I stopped in on a whim after passing by. Luckily they had available appointments! They were nice to talk to, and gave good advice on keeping our hair healthy. Thanks!

I was in Portland for a few days and desperately needed a haircut. I am a 63 yr old female and have short hair. I found Shear Bliss on Unilocal and saw that it was within two blocks of my hotel. Cathy is a lovely person and experienced stylist. She did a great job and was very affordable. If I lived in the area I would definitely use Cathy as my regular stylist. Do not hesitate to go here.

Cathy has been cutting both my husband and my hair for a few years now. We wouldn’t consider using anyone else. She always, each and every time, does an excellent cut.

I decided to check this place out strictly for convenience, so this place is a definite win win. really close to my apt and a fast wax. Brazilians really suck to get but shear bliss gave me the option of doing hard wax or strip wax. I never had a hard wax done before in that area but when they did it, it seemed less painful then usual (compared to strips). I am really glad I stumbled across this place. really nice people, nice salon, and a new type of waxing that works way better on my skin. I have asked other spas/​salons, if they use the hard wax and I can never find one that offers it. I think it might be better on my sensitive skin even if I have course hair. I usually request hard wax for an underarm wax.

My mother and I were visiting from California and made reservations just this past weekend for a pedicure and manicure. Cathy and her mom not only did a fabulous job, they were super friendly and we really enjoyed ourselves. Our nails were beautifully manicured and the foot and leg massage was the best we’ve ever had. They really took their time and used natural aromatherapy oils instead of the cheap fruity smelling lotion other salons use. The shop is very clean and cool looking and they have owned it for a number of years now. We were totally impressed and can’t wait to visit again.

Walked in on a Friday afternoon, no appointment, and hopeful. I was really pleased with the greeting and service. I had a pedicure for a wedding the next day. The ladies were so nice and friendly, and the leg/​foot massage was heaven! If I lived in Portland, I would be a regular!

My hair looks so sexy right now, thanks to Cathy’s expert highlight weaving skills. I got a full weave of highlights and a keratin treatment from her and it’s just so smoking hot right now that I wish I could find more excuses to get out of the house. I was also concerned about the highlights being too brassy since my hair is naturally dark brown but she neutralized them to make them a beautiful honey gold.
Not only that but she is so much fun and easy to talk to. We were chatting away about dating, hiking, work outs, favorite Hawai’i sights, as if we’d been friends forever. She even e-​mailed me later that day to link me to a café in Hawai’i she had mentioned (I am planning a trip there soon). I look forward to seeing her again.

Great place! I live nearby so it’s obviously convenient, but even if you don’t, it’s off the beaten path of 23^rd, so quieter and much easier to get an appt. Their list of services is extensive and includes hair, nails, waxing and other cosmetic things. It’s clean and comfortable and comparably priced, if not slightly less expensive. The owner is great, so sweet and easy to chat with!
Since most of the other reviews are about hair services, I’ll say that I got a shellac manicure with a nice hand/​arm massage. Pleasant and relaxing yet rather quick if you’re in a hurry. I would definitely recommend this place!

I have been trying out a bunch of places through Living Social deals & this place is the only place I plan to revisit.
I did get a bit surprised by how the highlights turned out & I suspect Cathy is perfecting this addition to her skill set. This is reason for 4 stars, not 5.
Nonetheless, these highlights get me regular compliments. Also, the cut looks GREAT. In fact, the cut got compliments from stylist at different salon who said she «left great lines» & «seemed like a keeper»!
I am forgiving about color b/​c experimenting with new look & can update color easily. The awesome haircut will definitely keep me coming back!

I couldn’t be more pleased with the cut and color that Cathy gave me. To begin with, she changed her schedule to get me in at 5:30 even though the salon normally closes at 5. Then she gave me the perfect color (stylist regularly will dye my hair too dark — but Cathy dyed it a perfect medium-​brown) and a cut that I love. She took her time to really make sure that she cut my hair correctly, and was friendly and sweet. I’ve gotten a ton of compliments on my hair since!
I’ve been to many fancier, trendier, (and more expensive) salons and this cut/​color was easily as good, if not better. I will be going back again soon.

on the search for a hair salon but this place is not it…
I called and they scheduled me 2 weeks out, which makes me think they must be good… lots of appointments perhaps. so i was really looking forward to it…
the location of the salon is good considering it’s almost right off high way. I did circled the block twice to find a street parking spot but at least no meter around that area. i just saw the other reviewer with the drink menu and i wasn’t offered one. just the verbal — ‘tea, water or coffee’.
now… finally in the barber seat… I talked about what I wanted and Cathy pretty much said ok to everything. To me, it’s nice to have hair stylist offer some opinions or plans on how they were going to go about it… or even ask clarifying questions… I thought maybe she was just quiet. My goal was get a trim and make my reddish brown be more ashy brown plus adding some fringes in front.
let me start with the coloring… Cathy said she’ll do a gloss on me instead of permanant coloring, which i’m fine with. she took out some color samples and compared to my hair then just went off to mix the colors. the places that i’ve been to will have a long discussion, show me samples, or heads up on what to expect which i got none of… as she applied about half of my hair, she said «oh. it will appear darker since the lights will hit it differently»… let me just say… the result was completely dark to near black! but back to the «glossing process». for some reason after applying the gloss, i was placed under a steamer. at first it was nice having steam on the hair, except 5 minutes later, the gloss started to drip with all the steam/​water all over the coverup and forehead until I asked for a towel… that can’t be how it works?!
finally glad that i got the rinsed off and that part was ok. the scalp massage was nice but the chair and the sink set up i found quite uncomfortable. (it’s a regular chair and you just got to lean your head back)
the hair cut wasn’t exactly what i asked for either. i wanted a trim and turned out more like a cut since she layered alot and took a lot off… i wanted some fringes in the front but it’s almost bangs.
i want to give it one star since i didnt get what i asked for AT ALL. but i gave it two stars for the product that they used. they do use Paul Mitchell mostly. but i won’t be going back.

I went in for a haircut and Cathy Luu rocked my socks! As soon as I entered the Salon I was treated like I was her favorite customer! I was presented with a drink menu with several different choices. I wanted to class it up, so I chose some wine. Next, my haircut began. I am always nervous about trying a new place, but Cathy took charge and gave me a great cut. Afterward, we moved to the hair washing station for a head massage and wash. She used this amazing shampoo that dazzled my senses and tingled my scalp. I thought I was in heaven!
If you are like me and want to try a new place then this is a must try.
