They are so friendly to human and pet visitors. They have the best variety of good quality, yummy treats that my very picky dog loves. We love coming here.

Went to See what kind of new food I should switch my puppies food to and I wasn’t even greeted and completely ignored. This wouldn’t usually be that upsetting except there was only one other customer in the store! Service was terrible which is unfortunates because I just moved into the neighborhood. Needless to say I will be looking for a different pet store to go to and so will my roommate for her cat.

Love this store. The staff is helpful and they have every item I need.

Such a fun Pet Store! I brought my Cattle Dog here the other day (one his birthday) for our first time and we had a blast, we could have hung out there all day.
I bought our dog Oz all sorts of yummy treats, picked the sales associate brain about the Orijen dog food since we feed our dog the NutriSource, she (Jess) was so knowledgeable.
While I was here I also picked up Taste of the Wild cat food and a mat for the cat’s dishes to sit on.
Prices are competitive, parking was easy, and good hours.
Lots of cute local goods that are handmade!

This store has a great selection of healthy cat food and other products. It’s not in our neighborhood but we drive across town to get a specific brand of cat food that they carry. Today my husband went in to buy 2 cases plus he grabbed the last 6 cans on the shelf. The clerk said to him «can you put three of those cans back on the shelf for other customers?» Seriously?! She literally would not sell him the three additional cans of food. I find this really strange and actually pretty rude.

I used to shop at SDS for all my pets’ needs, not anymore. Today we went in and bought our usual $ 60 bag of dog food, four employees and not an offer to help carrying to the car. Four employees standing around… Seriously not helpful or friendly. This is not my first negative experience here. Too bad because it used to be a great place to shop and for our dog to visit the employees.
Our neighbor also used to shop here for her cat’s needs. She agrees, not anymore.
We’ll find another shop that carries our brand of dog food.

This small pet supply store stocks a variety of Orijen dry food, which is what I feed His Royal Tininess, Louie. Prices for Orijen are on par with everywhere else, but it was nice not to have to drive out of the way to my regular store. Glad I found a place closer to home that stocks it!
They had a selection of simple felted doggy sweaters, which I glanced at but did not partake of. I didn’t really look at the rest of their offerings, but I imagine they’re the standard supply & toys. Clean store, friendly staff, and a really nice rewards program that’s automatic, so you don’t have to remember a punch card or anything.

I am all about supporting local business however after visiting Sellwood dog Supply I’m choosing to shop for my pet supplies elsewhere. I’ve been there more than once but my experience today was the final straw. I brought in my pooch «Coco» with me looking for a coat. Not one sales person acknowledge us. After deciding to purchase a coat, I went up to the counter and again no smile or did you find everything okay? The only thing the gal said was, «did you want a receipt?“I realize where all human and we have bad days however every time I come here it seems like everyone is having a bad day. I’m choosing to shop at a store where customer service is a priority not an option!

I usually buy everything online, both because it’s cheaper and more convenient since I don’t have a car and am often too lazy to ride my bike too far. This store, however, has become an exception. Their Acana products are nearly the same price as online and today I urgently needed a new leash and it was actually cheaper than online.
I also like their focus on local-​made products and all products seems to be high-​quality.
They also have tons of dog food samples (some for a small price, but most are free), which is great for choosing a new product for a picky pup.

This place is great! They always have the products I need and their prices are competitive. The owner is super knowledgeable about her products and was happy to walk me through the different food options. I love that you can bring your pup in with you too!

I decided to try out this place, was looking for a dog rain coat and specific toys. My experience there was okay. They seemed to have some unique items, some overpriced items and some seriously unfriendly staff.

WOW — this is my favorite pet retail store in all of Portland! Amazing selection, great prices, tons of selection and amazing customer service.

This is a pet store in my neighborhood. They have a huge dog section and a smaller area for cats (which is what I have). They focus on specialty foods-​more towards the natural, raw, grain-​free (for cats). Lot’s of toys-​they even feature some locally made one.
They also have some USA made cat furniture. There’s a big cage in the center of the cat annex that has some shelter cats. (I WISH I COULD ADOPT THEM ALL!) Great choices on catnip, pheromones, grooming supplies, and collars. My dream came true and I found A BOW TIE FOR MY CAT!!!

super friendly helpful staff! always have just what we are looking for. our little guy gets his nails trimmed here once a month too. yes things are more pricey than petco but its local, better quality food, and better more knowledgeable service.

SDS is a great all-​around supply store for dogs and for cats. They carry an assortment of quality food brands, and their leash/​harness/​collar selection is large and varied. As a certified collar junkie, I definitely appreciate this offering.
They have a professional nail trimmer come in a couple times a month. I was there one day and watched her work. She has a great way with the dogs… even the ones who were pretty adamant that no, in fact, they did not want their nails trimmed thank you very much. I’m a huge fan of this service.
When you first walk in, there is a community board with posters of dogs and cats available for adoption at local shelters. I love a business that supports the shelters. They also host outreach events every now and then where dogs available for adoption hang out in the store for a few hours so you can interact and learn more about them. Whether a dog is lucky enough to go home that day or not, it’s always a fun, positive day trip for the dog. I can and will go out of my way to support a business that provides their space for this type of shelter outreach service. Sellwood Dog Supply is the real deal, people. I spend my money here happily.

Nice place with plenty of choices for everything. Very friendly staff to answer questions. Prices seem a little higher than Petco but the help you receive makes up for it.

I have gone here over six times so I believe I got a pretty good idea of what’s going on. My first visit was great. Now I think I caught the sales person in a good mood. Eager to return, I needed dog food so I decided to buy locally (as a Sellwood homeowner) here instead of my usual place in Milwaukie. On my second visit, asking questions seemed to be an intrusion. I received short abrupt answers. When I asked if a brand that I bought elsewhere could be ordered, I thought I asked for the moon. With something close to rudeness, I was told I had to buy the food if they ordered it. DUH! What else could I have had in mind?
Each time I visited, No one greeted me as most of the time staff is somewhere in the back. Once after my question was answered with an «I don’t know» from a just arrived back room person, someone appeared quickly from the“back room” and answered my question with a real answer. I thought this must be an owner as he quickly returned to the back room. Another time I complained about some food I bought that was rancid when I opened it. I threw it away but wanted them to know as I saw more of it still for sale on their shelves. I was told to call the manufacturer. Sorry to bother them! I wanted this place to be «my fav dog supply» place but with little to no customer service, not enough concern to listen to customer complaints, I am heading back to my friendly Milwaukie store.

Our first stop after picking up our new puppy was Sellwood Dog Supply. We didn’t have anything you need to care for a new dog, we needed everything, without knowing what everything was.
The girl working was so incredibly nice and helpful. She had a new dog checklist ready and walked us around the store pointing out popular products, explaining the differences between things, and best of all showing us which products were the best deal without sacrificing quality. Oh, and they even make id tags on site, I know a lot of places have you send out for them.
Since then I’ve gone in every week or two for various things and they always have what I’m looking for. Including things for my kitty in their «cat annex.»
The shop is really nice inside, they even have a couch, although I’m not sure why. Their products are mostly nicer, high quality things, besides for a few cheapo cat toys, which are priced accordingly. The staff are all really friendly and say hi to my pup every time she comes in. They’re respectful of her skittishness and go slow with her, giving her plenty of treats along the way. We’ll definitely be regulars here.

We are so freaking lucky to have this shop a few blocks from our home! They carry an excellent variety of quality pet products, and as creators of some great dog coats and leashes, have done custom work for our animals.
Something we noticed recently when we picked up our supply of Primal frozen dog food. The prices had gone down. Apparently, the wholesale prices had been reduced, so the store brought down their own prices, making them less expensive by a couple bucks that some of the other independently-​owned dog stores in our shopping range. Kudos!
They’re a great community resource, hosting workshops, classes, low-​cost vaccinations, mobile vet days and adoption fairs. You can also shoot the sh*t with other dog owners, and get leads on other resources in the area (i.e. alternatives to Dove Lewis for emergency services, for the love of dawg).
We’re getting a new dog this week, and the first place we’re taking her is Sellwood Dog Supply so she can pick out some treats and toys!

After vowing to buy my pet food from local stores, this store was recommended to me. I loved the idea because it is so close to where I live.
I was assured that even with the name; they carry cat supplies as well. I must say that I have seen a better supply at stores that are almost half the size. It’s apparent to me that dogs were the main goal of this store and cats (and other small animals) came along sometime later.
While the prices were fare as far as I could tell, the sales woman was less interested in my questions and more interested in the dog customers. They might work again in a pinch, but they aren’t my one and only shopping destination for kitty food. The hunt for my perfect pet food store is still on.

Sellwood dog supply is three blocks from my house. Given this fact I usually buy all my dogs personal care products and food here.
Feeding my dog high quality semi-​local (no dog food from across the country our another country) food is important to me. Most of the employees that work here are friendly and are knowledgeable about their food products. They sell two brands here that are afforable and get all their food sources from california. So you know the food has not traveled across the world before going in your dogs tummy.
The prices here are a little high. Because of this I only buy essentials here such as food, and poop-​bags.
On a dog walk one day I went to go look for a dog bed at Sellwood Dog Supply and the prices were out of this world. Like $ 100 for a regular dog cushion.
But in the end the location and high quality food win me over.

I’m not really sure why I kept coming here after various experiences that left me feeling less-​than-​welcome. I guess it was because I like supporting local businesses… but I think I can probably find one that acts like they actually want my business instead.
They do have a nice selection of products; leashes, shampoos, toys, etc.

Newly expanded and staffed with nice and knowledgable folks who love dogs (and cats). They have a good selection of fine dog foods and all the paraphenalia you could want: toys, dishes, snacks, leashes, beds, etc.
I recently had a barfy dog and went in looking for some information on changing foods to something organic. The lady gave me a lot of free samples and reading material on the brands I was looking into. The prices can be a bit high for some items, but I pay because the quality is good and it isn’t one of those big box stores.
