Portland Brewing Company

Came in during happy hour on a weekday, it was pretty empty inside. The service was friendly and informative, and we decided on samplers, to check it out. We also ordered fries, which were pretty good, a light snack with our beer samples.
It’s a great open space, with plenty of room, and menu options. They have a decent beer list, but we thought it was just alright. If you’re short on time, and visiting I’d probably would skip it, as there’s many breweries in town that would be worth checking out.

We had a such an informative and thorough tour with Aaron, our tour guide. He led us through every part of the brewery and then we received 3 samples of any type of beer we wanted for free! It was completely worth coming out to the industrial part of Portland. Elizabeth was our bartender and she was very knowledgeable and funny. We ordered the mussels and Frites and they were delicious. The mussels were huge and there were savory pieces of pork belly throughout the dish. Thanks Portland brewery for the great experience.

Went in and it was not busy at all. We ordered some ales and a Raspberry Cider. Everyone loved the drinks. Ordered the Mussels and Frites. It was good. Nothing mind-​blowing, the fries were kind of bland but it filled me up and that is what I wanted. Something to tide me over til dinner. We had three different people check on us while we were there, all of them were pleasant and friendly. I will go back if I am ever in the area as it is in the industrial district.

It’s nice to know that Portland Brewing Co is down the street from where I work and that I get off during their hoppy hour! I got their seasonal S.M.A.S.H and it was so smooth, citrusy, with the right amount of hops. I really enjoyed that beer and it was really summery and I can’t wait to try more! I also got their garlic fries and they were good but I wish it had more of the garlic and rosemary topping in it.

This is our first visit here.
I had an early lunch today at Portland Brewery, but was a bit disappointed. Of course, no one can fault their beer and ale — we had a couple samples at no charge, and they were very good. The service was also very attentive — no complaints in that department. The food was a different story. In fairness, the clam chowder was pretty good and so were the Garlic Fries… The Reuben Sandwich was mediocre — not particularly tasty and the meat was tough. DH and I shared the sandwich. I was just discussing with him, how you sometimes get sand in your clam chowder, but this time, I have ‘sand’ in my sandwich, during my first 2 bites, when our server came by to ask how everything was. I usually don’t complain right on the spot, I usually do my complaining (on Unilocal), but I was taken by surprised. She was very nice enough to take care of the problem, took my sandwich and asked me if there was anything on the menu I would like. I ordered a simple burger, with toppings of my choice. The lettuce on the burger was big, limp and unappetizing. I like the bread, the meat, and the extra tomatoes, though. After eating ¼th of my sandwich (cut exactly in 4ths), I just lost my appetite! I have to take the day-​old lettuce out of my sandwich. I can understand lettuce getting wilted when you lay them on top of hamburger, but the lettuce that was not touching the bread or the meat, WAS TOO WILTED!
And, the restrooms are overdue for a remodel — not at all becoming of what appears to be the flagship location for this Brewery. I hope to notice some improvements by the next time that I dine here.

Try the buffalo chicken sandwich, pulled pork, or fish tacos. Good salad options too, like blackened chicken.

I didn’t realize this was the same brewery as Pyramid Brewery in Seattle, but we still ended up here because this was where the Portland Pug Crawl occurred!
I ordered a classic burger and added blue cheese and avocado, with two Outburst Imperial IPAs, which is my favorite beer from Pyramid. We sat on the big patio, with the rest of the pug families. Our waitress kept explaining that service would be really busy given the PDX Pug Crawl event, so advised us that we order as soon as possible. She was right. The service was slow, but we were warned that it would be.
The burger was better than I expected — especially from the blue cheese melt. I wished though they had put the avocado on top of the blue cheese instead of on the bottom bun. They also didn’t put as much as I would’ve liked, especially since they charge you two extra dollars for it.
It’s a fun place to have beers at, and we’ll be sure to go back if the PDX Pug Crawl remains to have their event here. (We did love how they made a pint glass for this very event — which was a picture of a pug shooting a basketball through a hoop as this year’s theme was PUGLETE!) Otherwise, given Portland’s foodie reputation and the industrial location of this brewery, which seems to be isolated from anywhere else, we won’t willingly eat and drink here again.

I make a trip out to Portland Brewing Company (PBC) once a year for the Oregon Humane Society Pug Crawl. This place is probably the perfect place to host this event as there is a ton of space in this odd industrial area of town.
This year after taking in all the adorable dressed up pugs my group and I decided to stay awhile and grab a bite to eat. Even though the restaurant was quite busy due to the event we still managed to get seated at a table without waiting too terribly long. Our server was obviously very busy and came over right away to let us know it would be just a moment before she could grab our drink order. We were not in a rush but I always appreciate getting this kind of a heads up.
This place has lots of beer to choose from, but as I do not partake in beer I was left to choose between Woodchuck hard cider and wine… no big deal. For food I decided to go with the fish tacos. They served the two large soft fish tacos with some multicolored tortilla chips and a side of pico de gallo and some sour cream. The fish tacos were decent, but I was not blown away. I think my issue was more with how much I paid for the tacos. The tacos should have been mind-​blowing… or the price should be lower.
The service here is great and I will always make an appearance for the yearly gathering of the pugs, beyond that I think I’ll have to pass.

The Apricot is a standby favorite. The $ 6 Happy Hour Bean Burger was good and plenty. The Buffalo chicken sounded scrumptious. The Hummus plate was meh, the fries were thin and not to my liking, while some of the salads were huge.
Service has been great. Love the off the beaten path location.

I am ⁰⁄₂ with this place. The first time I was there my guest and I both ordered iced tea, which arrived sans ice. Then the fish tacos were very below par. I told the server I don’t like spicy things and was told the salsa was very mild, and after one bite my mouth was on fire and I was almost sweating it as so hot. We tried to give it a second shot — this time my salad arrived with a hair in it. We will not be returning.

We had a group go here for the brewery tour. The tour itself wasn’t as good as I was hoping. Mostly the tour guide was very soft spoken so we had a hard time hearing him. He also didn’t have answers to some of the questions that people had asked. They give you a sweet anodized aluminum bottle opener at the end of the tour. Our group was impressed with the samples that came with the tour. They bring you a lot. We also had lunch there. The food is outstanding. The service was better than most restaurants even with it being packed in there for lunch. Overall I had a good time and would love to go back.

Most of the PBC brews have a very unpleasant skunky bitter aftertaste. I wasn’t happy with this brand. This place is dwarfed in comparison to Double Mountain Brewery in Hood River. Anything that comes out of Double Mountain has a clean unique flavor without any funky aftertaste. Go there instead.

Came for drinks with buds and a few snacks. Truth is the raspberry cider, samplers, service, and atmosphere were 5 stars easy.
the nachos looked like store bought junk. they tasted even worse. for an extra four bucks i got less than a quarter cup of chicken that tasted like it had been made in McCormick taco mix. Add to this the location and I’m simply not impressed.
This brewery’s namesake is a city where you can by accident find phenomenal beer and amazingly intricate creative food just walking down the street. A journey of this magnitude requires more to get 5 stars.

Had lunch here on a Sunday which is great for those with kids, as kids eat free! I had the granny apple salad and hubs had Salmon sandwich. We both felt they were small portions, and left still a bit hungry. Also $ 3.50 more for a piece of chicken on an already $ 11 salad. Fries were delicious, the few I snagged off the mr’s plate. Our lunch companions thought portions were small too, since the guy had the scottish pie, and half of his daughter’s chicken strips.
Atmosphere was really nice, we were seated in the room with fireplace. I will return, but probably only because of the kids eat free perk.

Giving it 4 star because I liked the beer; they give samples, and our server was good. The beer chicken was good. The cod fish and chips was ok. Cobbler with ice cream was ok. The outdoor seating area was enjoyable. It was quiet and relaxing. In summary, it’s a nice place to chill out and have a beer. food was good, but items we had were not exciting.

Nice patio on a cool September evening. Awesome that they brew all Pyramid beer here. Cheese plate appetizer was good with fresh bread. Baked salmon had potential (good meat) but was too dry. Good beers though and decent prices. Dog friendly out on patio (a huge plus in my book!!)

Five stars for sure! This place is great all around… food, atmosphere, and the best amber ale! Definitely recommend sitting on the patio, especially on a sunny afternoon. There is nicely shaded areas if you don’t what to sit in the direct sunlight. Their happy hour has a great offering as well. Service is always amazing. Dessert is to die for. We come here every time were in town.

Hard to believe I’d lived in Portland for 2 years before dropping in to this place. It’s just so out of the way for me that I’d never made it a priority. Also, I’m not a big fan of any of their offerings, so what’s the rush?
The place is pretty okay. Kind of in line with what I expected. Food looked okay, if not a little boring. The tap room was okay, if not a little boring. The beer selection was okay… if not a little boring. Sensing a theme here? The beers on tap didn’t look to be any different than what you’d find from them at any grocery store. Odd that they didn’t have any dark beers on, as I heard three different tables around us ask what dark beers they had on.
Nothing to get super excited about, except for the prices. Thursday night was $ 2 pints? DAMN! The beer might not be my favorite, but for $ 2, I’m pretty okay with it! Looked like they have pretty decent specials any night of the week, so that’s cool.

Grabbed a deal for a sit down dinner for $ 30 (Portland Perks) — all 4 courses and beer pairings were excellent! Would encourage anyone to come tour the brewery and try their beers. Delightful! Hope to return soon for another dinner event :-)

Mactarnahan’s taproom is now officially Portland brewing. The beer and food are still the same, which is good because I like both. I enjoy the new logo quite a bit and would probably indulge in a hoodie if they weren’t $ 40.
The most critically thing is that I can still get BOGO growler fills on Friday nights and $ 2 pints on Thursdays.
