Came here with a friend and it was a sunny beautiful day so we sat outside. We each got the cesar salad with chicken which was super good! I was pleasantly surprised! Also, tater tots are a must! The dipping sauce was really good. I wanted more! Unfortunately our waitress seemed a little absent minded… we would ask her for things and she seemed to get overwhelmed with other tables. That is OK, it was such a pretty day and the food made up for it. I hae heard from other people that McMenamins can be really slow as far as service so maybe that is what happened. I’ll still come back tho!

5 stars for the whole experience! We’d been there one other occasion for some drinks at the bar but never dinner. We walked to the nab through some red velvet curtains, to a large living room that happened to be completely empty! Our server was awesome! She let us order right from a super comfy red couch where we ended up staying for the remainder of our dinner! We had the muscles with a super delicious sauce over top of them. We also had the sweet potato fries Thai style and they were amazing! My husband had a huge burger with avocado and soup on the side. The soup was delicious. I think it was a morocco style soup. Tons of flavor. Very yummy. I ordered the ciopino seafood stew and it was the 2nd best seafood type soup I’ve ever had. We were both really surprised because mcmenamins is more known for their burgers. So this was a please t surprise. I had the Chris Kringle beer and Chris had the Porter and they were both very tasty We usually end up with these two beers or the ruby. They had a great desert menu but we were too stuffed to eat another bite! I wish I could remember our servers name! She was super sweet and very attentive the whole time. We will definitely be making this a go to spot! The only thing I would change about this location is they didn’t have any live music. This would be a perfect spot for a quite 3 piece band, Playing ever so softly in the background while we had dinner. Would have changed this to a 5 star review no problem! I highly recommend this location!

Everything about this place is average. The food, service, beer, and atmosphere. It’s kind of a TGI Fridays, but with a PDX vibe. Locals don’t eat here.

I like the McMenamins locations the ambience really stands out to me. We are passort holders and tripsters. This time around we sat at the bar, had greyhounds and soup. Yummy! The service was great!

My wife had a dish that was awful. It was Veggies tagine which tasted like vomit. My stake was much better while its green beans was too salty. the waiter was polite, on time Another plus was that they were open on labor day night after 10pm

This place was really great and homey. I loved the big cozy couches in the back of the establishment and romantic lighting. We did ask them to turn down the AC because it was quite chilly for the fall evening. There was a decent sized group of us and almost every one of us order a raspberry moscow mules, they were top notch! I never knew there was such a thing. I order a cesear salad and no complaints here. My friend ordered the thai sweet potato fries, AKA heaven! My only complaint is that the drinks took a little bit of time and one of the members in our group ordered a beer and they had to change out the keg, but it really wasn’t that big of a deal. It took about 20 plus minutes for us to get our drinks.

Visiting Portland for the first time and decided to check out Ramshead for afternoon drinks and bar food. They did not disappoint and our bartender Tommy was welcoming and made our group of 7 freshly made mules, craft beers and an awesome cold coffee drink I think called Kentucky ice coffee. What a work of art and so yummy. We tried many of the happy hour foods including Vietnamese pork tacos and the fish tacos. The best!

Great place for drinks and the food is not bad either. Went here with a friend on Friday night. Let’s start off say the service from the bartender Roberto is great, he is nice and friendly. I started off with a cucumber margarita and he suggested to add raspberry to it which I did and needless to say I had 5 of them. I got the burger and tots for dinner which was a good burger. Love any place that serves crispy tots. The only bad thing which is not their fault is trying to find parking on 23rd street,

This place was pretty bad. Some of the worst service I’ve ever had at a mcminnamins. The waiter got our order wrong and pretty much ignored us the whole time. The food was overpriced and gross, we didn’t even bother taking it home. I wouldn’t recommend this over priced and underwhelming location.

For a city known for its food and beer one bartender and one bars ambience definitely stands out amongst the crowd. Jake — Hands down the best bartender in Portland!!! In the upscale NW23rd section of town, there are many choices to wet your goulet but at the Rams Head, Jake is putting his passion on full display as he works up creative libations to tempt even the faintest of heart. With a menu that already boasts the largest craft cocktail selection in Portland you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy, and probably more than one! Now if you just can’t make your mind up and like myself you enjoy a little ‘special attention’ then you can definitely let Jake work his magic and come up with something creative! For us, he took fresh squeezed orange, limes and lemon, muddled raspberries and cucumbers added a little of this a dash of that and whoola — Zombie Margarita that was refreshing and delicious! Next up, and really probably worth a review all if it’s own was a drink fit for vegas! Although the wrong time of day, this off the menu concoction was so enticing that the mere description set my mind off — a bloody mary with a twist! Now I’m no fan of bloody marys, not sure if it’s the tomato mix you find to be all too sweet and unbalanced all too often but this was different… this was Jake’s mix… a fresh blend of tomatoes and spices made from scratch poured over a tall glass of ice, with 2 shots of vodka and the juice of a fresh squeezed lime… now that alone would have made it the best bloody mary I’ve had but then came the fun stuff! This drink came topped with a deliciously well garnished Slider! That’s right a mini burger of perfection! Floating so majestically over that damn good BM! If that’s not enough that was topped off with a bacon wrapped bar olive and accompanied with picked green bean, cauliflower, a cherry tomato and, of course, the classic celery stick… built to order, bar side, by Jake… and all that for like $ 11!!! Go now! Go fast! And ask for Jake!!! Tell him I sent you ;)

Bad placement of candles, had hair caught on fire and the waiter apologized and asked if he could pay for a beer or sprite and that he meant to tell us to be careful like it was a problem… besides that beer was warm, but he fixed. Food was sub par like the last review I left in wilsonville, was going for pizza because a member of our group said it was good, since all other places were packed. But alas not at this restaurant. Was my fault after first review, never again.

Cozy, welcoming, with an old historic feel to it, I thought this McMenamins was awesome! I like the comfortable atmosphere, like you’re in someone’s home or a beloved neighborhood pub. My friend had one of the beers. The bartender was super cool — he gave my friend a sample to try of a particular beer. My friend liked the flavor and went ahead and ordered a full glass. We asked for Portland pizza restaurant recommendations and other tips(ie. parking enforcement in the area), and the bartender was easy to talk to, friendly and helpful. I’d come back when I’m in Portland again!

Want a McMenamins that feels more high end? This is your branch. In a cool old brick building on trendy third the inside is nice. It has wainscoting, hardwood… It just feels nice inside. There is outside seating also. The atmosphere is comfortable with soft music playing, comfortable bar stools and booths. It has a beamed ceiling and old fashioned lighting. It feels like a great place to relax. Unusual for McMenamins you wait to be seated though I have never seen anyone wait more then a few seconds. The menu though is standard McMenamins with no specials. The bar has a collection of China teacups. These are a nod to the prohibition ere when this space hosted a restraint that served its liquor in teacups. McMenamins calls this a craft cocktail bar, though most of what I saw going out was beer. This may account for the special feel? Service was good and the staff was in a good mood. I heard the bartender Jake have a long chat with a customer about his martini, making suggestions. He seemed to care that the drink was«just right». My burger did take a while to come. I really didn’t care, I was just relaxing…

Loved the divinely comfortable atmosphere, and thought the drink menu was off the chain … Endless. Cocktails made with a true sense of craftsmanship and presentation. Genuinely friendly service. Came away feeling the employees enjoy working here. A nice spot. Did not eat here. This experience prompted to search out another McMenamins north of Portland — where had another memorable experience the next day.

I’d love this place if… We had a group of four and a 40 minute wait till our table was ready down the street. Time enough for beer or drink. We seated quickly and then it all fell apart. Ten minutes till water came and ten more till are order was taken. Ten more minutes till we received the beers. Our call came to say our table was ready… we slammed our drinks and wondered on down the road. Not so special. On the other hand the beer was delicious. The atmosphere was calming, near perfect for me. Might of been off day for service? I’m thinkin. I like it, wishing I have had the time to enjoy it more. Next time?

I had an awful experience and it all happened on my birthday. Friends and I went out for dinner and decided to grab a beer after. We’d all had one drink at dinner and so, we were completely sober. Anyway, we arrived at Rams Head about 11 p.m. and were immediately sat. Math question: Four friends walk into a bar to celebrate one friend’s birthday. Five minutes after they arrive they are greeted by their server and order drinks. Two friends order beers and two order cocktails. Five minutes pass without any of the friends receiving their drinks. Friends wait patiently and understand that they are no more important than any of the other bar clientele. Another five minutes pass and still no drinks. Two friends then begin to yawn from exhaustion of waiting for said drinks. Server walks by and apologies for delay — while at the same time, said party observes people walking-in and ordering drinks at the bar and all persons appear to be receiving their drinks at the time of order. Another five minutes pass. The birthday boy decides it’s time to find out what’s going on. Birthday boy finds server and asks for status. Server profusely apologizes and states«let me go find out what’s taking so long». Another five minutes pass and still no drinks. Birthday boy then finds server and informs her that they’re leaving and to cancel their order. Server say’s she’s REALLY sorry. Then, server walks up to bartender and they have a few words. It appears that the bartender and server have some more complicated issue going on. Also, bartender doesn’t really seem to care that said party is leaving without ever being served. So, here’s the question, how much time did the party in question waste sitting and waiting for their drinks only for them never to arrive? (Disclaimer, answers may vary depending on each person’s definition of what«wasting time» constitutes)

A new friend and I went here on a lazy Friday evening around 10 p.m. to satisfy our late night comfort food cravings. We were seated immediately in a cozy wooden booth by our very friendly server Hannah. The menu contained drinking food/standard pub fare: a variety of burgers, various sandwiches, fried things, salads, etc. My stomach was still bulging from a burger and a late night chimichanga the previous day so I elected to go for a salad. Whoever was in charge of the playlist was killing it that night for the 45 minutes or so I was there. The music was an eclectic mix of Arcade Fire, Bob Dylan, the xx, and irish drinking songs. The setting is very intimate and dark. Lots of cozy nooks and crannies are a hallmark of this former speakeasy. It reminds me of The Inn of the Prancing Pony in the first Lord of the Rings. You know the one-where Frodo meets Aragorn for the first time? From the outside, a rickety-looking sign dangles from a pair of metal hooks marking the otherwise unassuming spot in the basement of a grandiose brick building. It has a more relaxed and unpretentious vibe than some of the other dining establishments on NW23rd. I felt like having something light so I asked about the house salad. Our lovely server said it comes with pomegranate seeds. Later on she informed me they were out of pomegranate seeds but kindly offered to sub cranberries instead. I said that would be perfectly fine. The house salad came drizzled in a tasty and tart vinaigrette. Gobs of goat cheese and«marinated»(pickled) onions rounded out the salad. My bathroom trips here always seem to end up turning into an excursions. You practically need a map. I don’t know how people do it drunk. When I returned from the bathroom I took a wrong turn and ended up in a secret alleyway. But when I returned to my table the food arrived in what seemed like record time. My dining companion ordered the IPA, which I sampled. It was smooth and balanced and didn’t overstay its welcome on the palate like some IPAs. Rams Head is a solid spot to relax and have a burger and a beverage if you’re in the NW neighborhood. When the weather’s nice they have outdoor seating on the sidewalk which is some of the best people watching. It is a good place to watch the neighborhood fashionistas strut from sale to sale.

This was the first McMenamins I tried, so I have a soft spot for Rams Head. Since we live nearby, this is one of our go to spots for happy hour — the happy hour menu and deals are great. The service is also great every time we come here. I’d have to recommend the steak bites($ 5 for happy hour), and the truffle fries. Also, their Ruby beer. I must be missing the hype on the tater tots because I didn’t think they were anything special. The downside to this place is that you can definitely tell the difference in the cooks — sometimes the food is great, other times it’s just so-so. Also, the inside is a little dingy, but still charming. A solid 4 stars.

This company has several dozen pubs and restaurants throughout Oregon. My visit there made me wonder why. First, the music is just too loud. For a bar that tries to be decent and classy, and did not have many people sitting inside, I still had to raise my voice to have a conversation. When I got my iced tea, there was no straw or lemon. I asked the server for a straw and she didn’t get me one until I asked again. In addition to our server not being very available, I’m not even sure she ever smiled at us even one time. To the food. I ordered the communication breakdown burger with cheese, peppers mushrooms, and onions. I got the burger and I see something white on it. My hear sank. This burger had a mixture of mayo and horseradish and the menu never specified it. I guess that’s why it’s called a communication breakdown burger… I don’t eat mayo and since the menu did not mention that there would be mayo, this really bothered me. Mom gave me her lamb burger and she took mine. The lamb burger was fine, but not worth that much aggravation. Disappointing service and a misleading menu would keep me from coming back.
