A lot of ppl seem to be into this place around here. But the pancake tasted a kind of bitter flavor to me and the butter stacked on it is just too much– not a choice to make but comes with the food. And bacon fired too hard — I would appreciate a choice of softer fry personally.

We have only gone here a couple of times as a fall back plan for when Gateway Breakfast House is way to packed(which is pretty much anytime after 9:30am on weekends). The omelets are pretty terrible. The waffles are also not very good. They also charge more than they should for greasy spoon breakfast. Also, there are a lot of parents here who sub loud tablet games for actual parental supervision of their offspring while dining here — which I find really annoying. There just isn’t really a reason for this place to exist.

I love breakfast in general and decided on getting breakfast with a friend one morning. I was curious about this place as I seen this establishment in the area but never dine before. I should have known from the moment I walked in– the whole experience was just off to a bad start. The short version of this story is that the cashier was just in her own world — just focusing on cashing everyone out and when there wasn’t anybody else coming up to pay. She did not once greeted us or even informed that we would be seated shortly, few minutes later — a waitress did come up, but NOT to seat us but instead the gentlemen that came after us got seated first. Words were exchange but nothing disrespectful and only then did the waitress try to seem apologetic. Overall, It was just bad customer service experience, terrible food, the place needs a serious remodel, and won’t likely to be returning period.

Yummy breakfast with normal-sized portions. Coffee was decent. The service was excellent! Such friendly people.

Big breakfast of the usual breakfast stuff. If that’s what you want then there you go.

Thinking this was going to be as good as the Cannon Beach one… well, we were sadly disappointed. The food and the service was sub-par. The waitress was very distracted by her daughter being there. She kept telling us our food was coming soon while everyone around us was getting theirs. It took us about 25 minutes to get our food. My husband was so VERY disappointed. He gets the same thing every time we go to the Cannon Beach one(which is tradition every time we go to the beach, we have to go to PnP) and he said this is just awful. The hashbrowns tasted frozen, the bacon was over done, my fruit was mushy. My veggie skillet was pretty tasty though so I will say, they earned stars there. The other positive was it seems like a great neighborhood joint. A lot of families and people that knew each other, clearly a bunch of regulars. But we won’t be back. :(

First time there and excited to try this place as we just moved to Portland and don’t really know the area well yet. I had a hard time deciding on what to get as there were so many original choices but I ended up with a taco omelet and banana pancakes. Both were SO good! My hubby who is eating lo carb was able to choose from many options and ordered a custom omelet with his favorite meats and said it was one of the best omelets he ever had. My coffee cup was never empty and everyone was super nice and despite being packed, we got our seats quickly and service was speedy. We will be back!

The food is alright. Your typical breakfast food. However, its the service that makes the difference! They really have friendly staff and always make sure your coffee is filled and you have water in your glass(their water is by request only, FYI). My waitress is Lisa and she is the most bubbly waitress I’ve met. She always give that smile and attention to her customers. The food may just be typical but if the staff are friendly and attentive to your needs, you dining experience will change into the most satisfying.

A nice big diner/coffee shop with plenty of options for every meal of the day. The service is friendly and the pancakes are fluffy. They offer marionberry syrup, too!!! Even though they are crowded on Sat/Sun mornings, getting a seat never seems to be a problem; sit at the counter if you want even faster service with a view of the kitchen action.

food ok; big complaint is that I am in a wheelchair and I had a difficult time getting into the restroom; not handicap accessible. I will be reporting them to city hall for not being in compliance. if you are in a wheelchair and can’t walk at all, this place is not for you; you will not make it into the restroom. just sayin. .. .

I gave it 2 stars, 1 for good food and the other one is for a good waiter. The reason I gave it such a low score is because of the hostess. My friend and I came in to eat lunch, my friend is legally blind(she had her cane and was using my arm for guidance) The hostess gave my friend a dirty look and didn’t seem like she wanted to help us. Once we were finished eating, we went to go pay. My friend handed her card to the same hostess and she wouldn’t grab it from here, she expected my friend to get the card to her, So, I took the card and gave it the woman. The woman swiped the card just loosely gave the card to my friend, once again she didn’t give it straight to her and expected my friend to grab it. That woman never talked to us once during this encounter. I will not go back because of that woman. So if you are disabled you may not be greeted with opened arms.

If you are looking for a basic breakfast without all that fancy stuff, this is the place to eat. The waiters are friendly and they seem to have a lot of regular customers they know by name.

Not bad. Don’t come here expecting gourmet, local fare. It’s your typical franchise breakfast joint. I was here recently with my brother. He ordered the sand dollar pancakes of which he got 10. They looked fluffy and delicious. He ate it all up. I ordered the French Toast combo which came with strawberry compote. That was so good. It was a busy Sunday morning. The hostess was nice and friendly. She was personable and seemed sincere which is a major plus for me. We were seated promptly. Our waiter was equally as friendly and good about refilling our beverages without being asked. That’s more major points. All in all, a good experience. The good service definitely helps balance out the mediocre food.

This is the part of town Portlandia acts like doesn’t exist. The edges are rough, the neighborhood isn’t chock filled with ironic mustaches or antique bikes but there are gems hiding in the hinterlands. Pig-n-pancake is one. Olde timey, family-owned and operated chain of breakfast palaces. The food is solid, greasy and in no way organic or artisanal but come on Unilocalers show some love for the by gone days of greasy spoons and roadside diners. Love this place.

Today was my first and last visit. I could see the cooks in the kitchen touching their faces, noses, glasses etc and not wash their hands once the whole time. And of course, not wearing gloves. Disgusting! Food was mediocre at best, my omelet was soaking with grease, my toast was half burned and tasteless. I only had water, no service whatsoever and than they tried to charge me for a coffee I never ordered. What a dump. Didn’t tip for that bs and won’t be a customer there ever again.

Our interest in checking out Pig-‘N-Pancakes in the wilds of East Portland was to see if this was a decent breakfast spot without a wait for a table. Nope, we didn’t have to wait for a table at Pig. Service was very good and food was decent. We went with basic stuff like hash browns, Eggs Benedict and Biscuits and Gravy, and had no complaints. Funny thing(or not so funny, depending on your personality type/perspective), both times we came here, the hostess attempted to seat us at one of the tiny tables right outside the toilets, even though plenty of other tables were available. And both times, we ixnayed their seating suggestion. But without our hostess batting(or rolling) an eye, we were seated at far better locations. We liked the big glass metal etched panels that line the northeast wall. But ever the designer, JP opined that the panels would even be more stunning if they painted the wall white around the panels. 3.4 stars.

So disappointing. I arrived about 11:00am today, and was seated immediately, and the seater offered and brought both coffee and water immediately. Great start! I perused the menu, immediately identified what I wanted, folded up the menu, and waited. And waited. And waited some more. And drank the coffee, which was mediocre. My waitress finally appeared, and I told her I wanted the Coastal Flair. She looked at me like I had multiple heads. I pointed to it on the menu, and said, «That’s the Eggs Benedict with Dungeness Crab instead of ham, isn’t it?» She looked and said, «Oh yes. No one ever orders that.» I pulled out my book and read and waited. And waited. And waited some more. At 11:15, the table next to me, seated after I was, got their food. At 11:20, another waitress dropped my plate in front of me, and asked if I needed ketchup or Tabasco for my potatoes; I asked for and received Tabasco. Once I started eating, more problems appeared. The plate was cold. The hash browns were luke warm. One poached egg was perfectly(ie, runny yolk) while the other was cooked hard. What was presented as Hollandaise sauce was anything but, with no lemony tang at all, and an odd beige color. The crab had no flavor at all. I was starving, and ate the food, but at no point did anyone come by to ask how the food was. At one point, my original waitress dropped the bill, and ran away. I left a much smaller tip than I usually do, and took my bill up to the clerk as I prepared to leave. She didn’t even ask how my meal was. With so many breakfast options available, I’m ashamed to have wasted the time and money on this travesty. Perhaps their more traditional breakfasts are better, but I won’t be returning to find out. Lesson learned.
