Our family’s favorite restaurant! The food is delicious, especially the Lasagna, Crostini’s and the beet salad! The owner and staff are very hospitable and attentive. I definitely recommend this authentic Italian eatery!

Oak & Olive has recovered from their rough start and turned into a really nice dining experience. I love their roasted trout, their white bean soup and the house smoked steelhead appetizer. The staff was knowledgable about food allergies and they ofter gluten free versions of their pizzas and some entrees. It is also family friendly with drawing and reading activities for small children.

What a surprise. Stopped for lunch and was expecting to have pizza and salad. Decided on the trout with cauliflower instead — yum! My mother had the butter squash ravioli with brusselspouts and it was fantastic. Going to had to come back to try the pizza.

What a wonderful addition to Hillsdale. This very attractive and impeccably clean new restaurant serves mostly pizza, pasta and salads with a couple more serious entrees, lamb osso bucco and roasted trout. We had a terrific roasted garlic pizza and loved it. The desserts are very attractive. We loved the olive oil cake. The stemless wine glasses, in the Italian style, are beautiful. We look for many returns.

The atmosphere is somewhat austere and almost feels sterile. In general it is not a very comfy or inviting. space. The pizza is disappointing for the price and especially since pizzicato, while a different style, is just right across the street and offers a more affordable and comparably delicious Pizza options.

Nice looking place. The pizza, though, was just ok. Quattro Formaggio– this was pretty tasty. Olive Pizza– quite greasy. The olives were pretty good, but I was put off by the grease. The ricotta needed more zest to counter it. Crust: I also wanted more out of the crust. I thought it bland. The beet salad was also unremarkable. Like canned beets with arugula. Needed more… something. Goat cheese.vinaigrette.something. Do yourself a favor and get Tastebud pizza instead.

We got in last night right before the dinner rush. We were seated quickly and our kids were instantly drawn to the chalk board wall. They also provided colored pencils and blank sheets of paper — a welcome change from most obnoxious restaurant kids coloring sheets/menus. For an appetizer, we ordered smoked steelhead. It was moist, flavorful and delicious. We all fought over it — even the kids. My husband and I shared the pork belly pappardelle and a garlic pizza. The kids ordered the kids’ buttered pasta with parmesan and pasta with meatballs. We also ordered a glass of wine each — the house red. The glasses were oddly shaped, but the amount of wine was plenty, despite what another reviewer stated. And it was really good. The food came out hot and fresh and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The kids’ portions were healthy sized with orecchiette pasta, which was easy for them to eat and kind of fun. Also, decently priced at around $ 6. The pizza had lemon and garlic with parsley sprinkled on. It was DELICIOUS. We all cleaned our plates, down to the last bits of crust. We remarked on how our kids ate ALL their food and begged for ours. The staff was so kind, welcoming and helpful. They were an absolute pleasure. The décor is fun and the place is so clean. The restaurant was packed when we left and we can see why. We can’t wait to come back and check out a Wine Wednesday and try more of their menu. SWPDX friends, I know there are a lot of great eateries in our city, but you must give this place a go as it is lovely, although a can be bit spendy(especially if you add in wine). This restaurant is a a great addition to our area and was really needed!

I want to love this place — great location, good atmosphere, nice staff. However, I was underwhelmed. For a restaurant that has a fabulous wine collection visible, their wine by the glass options consist of one white, one red, one bubbles. Disappointing. I ordered the tuna salad. It’s basically all tuna — no lettuce. It’s way too much tuna. I asked about bread(since one can only eat so much tuna) and he said I can buy something like 10 pieces of focaccia(I really only needed a piece or two to eat with the crazy amount of tuna). I’m giving it 3 stars because the rest of the menu looks promising and the bill was under $ 130 for six people. Personally it wasn’t a great experience, but I’m hopeful it will improve.

Nothing was bad, but nothing was great. Service, location, and facility are very nice. Part of this is personal preference… I like flavorful food. I think Oak and Olive uses high quality ingredients, but they don’t add much spicing. Perhaps that falls under«let the quality of food do the talking,» but it just wasn’t flavorful. We’ve been twice, and had the same experience both times.

We’re so glad this restaurant is in the neighborhood and has an owner who really seems to care. We have been going a couple times a month since early summer and we really like the evening table service. We enjoy taking our out-of-town guests and letting them taste a couple of our favorite dishes; olive pizza, agnolotti pasta, and the beet salad. We love that the ingredients seem fresh and they’re not over cooked. We really enjoy some of the employees as they make it fun for us while dining. Looking forward to the Spring menu and what you’ll change up.

We live in the neighborhood and finally tried oak and olive. We had the caesar salad and the pizza special of the day. First the salad – you can tell they actually tried – nice shaved cheese and anchovies topped the salad – and a nice size portion – but it was $ 10. That being said the dressing was horrible. I thought it tasted watered down. My husband said bland and oily – whatever it was I am usually a huge salad eater and It was terrible – not to mention there was a hair in my salad(and it was not my hair). i was hoping the pizza would be better – Especially for $ 16. Unfortunately it was just as bad if not worse. i love thin crust pizza – but this was an oily mess of thin crust pizza. i would have loved some parm cheese to put on top to soak up some of the oil – but there was not any on the table. If you want a thin crust pizza and good salad just do yourself a favor and go to Tastebud’s or Pizzicata. For the a similar price in the same neighorbood, you can get much better healthier food. I really wanted to like this place as they have a kids chalk board and are really trying to cater to the neighborhood – but the food was just terrible;(

The only thing that really stuck in my mind is the very«short» wine servings. I felt gypped and it ruined the experience. We mentioned it and the waiter kind of chuckled like we were making a joke. Different shape of glass did not fool me. A couple of sips and it was gone. The first time I went a few of us shared a bottle of wine so I guess that’s the way to go. Good pizza(margarita), soup and salad(house). Unfortunately the unique glass/portion is what stuck with me. Don’t like to leave mediocre reviews especially for small businesses taking the risk, but it is what it is.

I was super excited when I found out an Italian place opened up in Hillsdale. We live in John’s Landing so any new restaurants in the area is exciting. We went on a weeknight and the place was not very crowded. Our first impression was that the ambiance was way too urban for a neighborhood Italian place, but it’s a new building so that had to be considered. We both had the lasagna, which was actually pretty good except the sauce was watery, like literally there was a light pink watery substance in the bottom of the bowl, otherwise the flavor was good. What really put us off about the place was the owner. She came around and asked us what we thought. We actually thought she wanted to hear our thoughts, but when we told her she was visibly annoyed by the constructive criticism. We had taken a picture of the watery lasagna and showed it to her, she mumbled something about a new chef and said she would mention it. I explained that I didn’t like to drink wine out of a small bowl, and she said it was all the rage in Italy and she was not going to change her glasses for any one. I felt like I had insulted her first born when I told her I didn’t like her glasses, I don’t get it, but I wasn’t being rude I was just answering her question and I really didn’t like the glasses… if you have ordered a glass of wine at this place you know what I’m talking about. Bottom line the food is decent but too expensive for Italian. The waitstaff is young and inexperienced and the owner is intolerant of her customers suggestions. Probably will not eat here again.

We live in the neighborhood and really want to support local business. That said, we also want to go out to dinner and enjoy our meal… We’ve been to Oak & Olive twice now. Pizza is pretty decent, but nothing so spectacular that you crave it again. Oak & Olive is a real loser, though, for their tough, dried out pasta and pissy attitude. We ordered a large pizza for the family, and a ravioli to share. Pizza came first. Server plopped it down with no plates or utensils for us. We had to actually stand up, walk across the restaurant, and fetch it ourselves. At that point, she asked, «Oh, you want sons plates?» Pizza and pasta arrived a few minutes apart. We had all finished a piece of pizza, and found ourselves holding back and waiting for the pasta to eventually arrive. Finally the pasta comes… The pasta had raw dough at the crimped edges. It was dry, tough and absolutely flavorless. Once we flagged down our server, she had to gather another server for reinforcement, before our plate was taken away. There was no apology, or acknowledgement that the pasta was not right. We were told it was being taken back to the kitchen because, «You didn’t care for it.» Let’s be clear: we didn’t care for it because it was wrong! We continued to eat pizza, while we waited for our pasta to reappear. They refired the plate and disappeared when it was delivered. One bite and it’s the same problem. Dry, tough, raw dough. The server said to us, «You still don’t like it?» Again, nothing about how it wasn’t right. No apology. I said, «It looks freezer-burnt.» I asked when it was made, and was told that, indeed, their pasta is frozen. In my opinion, if you are running an Italian restaurant, you better damn we’ll make your pasta fresh. I can boil a tasteless, frozen ravioli at home. She whisked the plate away. «We’re sorry you don’t like it» is not an apology. No one came to talk to us. Our cash refund was attached to a little clipboard and silently deposited on our table. No one returned after that. With their order-before-you-sit system, they had already gotten tipped. Too bad– they did not earn that 20% we left. In this small community, word tends to get around. I bet you the Oak & Olive will not stay long, if they don’t change the way they operate.

What a lovely find! We stumbled onto Oak and Olive while out checking out estate sales and could not have been more pleased The pizza was delish-perfect thin but not too crunchy crust and the smoked salmon ravioli was the tastiest thing I have had in a long time(I am a sucker for anything with capers in it) The place was nicely appointed and there was a great looking patio with comfy patio furniture They even have a bambini menu! Will definitely be back

Hillsdale is remote, but not so remote from Portland center as many imagine. It has a small business concentration, a library, a hospice, coop food stores, small businesses, a pool and a farmer market. Oak & Olive sets up shop here, walk nearby, drive area, catch commuting on Beaverton Hillsdale Highway or Capitol Highway. They have a nice indoor high wall indoor space and a beautiful outdoor space in back away from traffic for eat-in. Almost everything, including off-menu items can be carried out home. Kids welcome and encouraged. I had the Lamb Osso Bucco. It is a lamb shank over polenta. Very yummy, up to you to add salt. For Summer, they have individualistic salads. Plenty of pasta dishes too. Oak & Olive is an extension of Portland fine dining a little way out geographically from central Portland, but not too far out.

They have a goofy; wait in line, order, wait with your drink, and finally get a table, procedure that feels somehow uncomfortable. I would describe the atmosphere as boisterous and loud. The floors are concrete and the walls are hard so every plate clash echoes. The staff are friendly and seem industrious. The food is pretty good. I wouldn’t say excellent, but it’s certainly not bad. It would be 4 stars if it were a normal restaurant with table service, etc.

Oh my gosh! I feel like I’m taking a trip to Italy every time I enter Oak and Olive. My favorite menu items are: cheesecake with biscotti crust, snaked salmon ravioli, real cappuccino, oh the lamb is so delicious, and of the salads I love the Caesar, the dressing is so yummy. The grilled cheese is good if you like bacon, real cheese and focaccia and of course the wood fired pizzas are wonderful! My absolute favorite sandwich is the Muffuletta it is packed with meat and olives. I’m so happy this restaurant moved in to Hillsdale its Devine!

Very good pizza! I loved the Quattro Formaggi, so f’ing tasty! I love a nice semi thin crust with very zesty fresh tomatoes sauce and really good quality cheeses, that’s exactly what I got. The beet salad was tasty as well. The prices are high but that’s because you get some high quality food and pretty good service considering it’s actually a order at the counter place. Nice to see high quality food options finally growing in the area, appreciate it people, I know I do.

Proud to be the first review of this new addition to the Hillsdale community! I came in here just a few days after they opened and it exceeded my expectations. They respect their italian theme while creating a nice mix between classy sit-down restaurant and walk-in pizza shop. Very prompt and friendly service. As a former pizza maker with many years of experience I really appreciated this pizza. Light dough, fresh ingredients, and well cooked. Once they get their oven going for a few weeks as it becomes more seasoned it will only improve their pizza. I hope this place keeps it up going forward!
