This is by far one of the best, if not the best places for croissants and pastries. I had the best damn almond croissant. It was so flaky but dense on the inside with sugar caramelized on the outside. The almond paste stuffing was so light and custardy and it balanced the sweetness. Their espresso always tastes rich, creamy and has that unique nutty sweet aftertaste flavor.

Customers are what keep the doors open? So why is it I go in and I get the slowest, I don’t care what you want, service? The food is good but I dread the cashier interaction every time. I will just walk on past next time.

I’m a croissant snob — seriously, it’s horrible and I know it BUT I lived in France for a year and the French spoiled me with buttery yet crispy to perfection croissants and since leaving France my relationship with croissants have never been the same UNTIL… I met a bakery named Nuvrei! I came to Portland on vacation and decided to hit up a bakery. I went to Nuvrei — saw the croissants; felt hopeful and my god… it was like I was transported back to Paris! I had the almond croissant and it was seriously amazing… this bakery is no joke! Go to Nuvrei — get a croissant and your life will never be the same

The chocolate almond and regular croissants are to die for. However, the reason why this place gets one star is for two reasons. The first is their location is super incontinent and next to impossible to find. The second and biggest reason of all is that they’re closed on Monday. I mean what the actual f*ck! What kind of bakery closes on Mondays? Every good bakery owner knows that all normal and successful bakeries are open on Mondays and closed on Sundays, not the other way around. If anything Mondays are when bakeries are open the earliest because everyone knows that adults go to work early on Mondays and need to get a quick breakfast. I don’t know who’s idea was it to have the store closed on Monday, but that person needs to be fired because that is hands down the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen any bakery do. So yeah one star.

Came in here thinking there would be a larger dessert selection and after an awkward 5 minutes in the store pretending I was excited about the food, I decided to grab a berry Danish. I really wanted chocolate cake or something in the dessert family, I was pleasantly surprised. I kept saying«mmm» after every bite and wished I had gotten more. The price reflects the quality. You can stop your belly aching about having to pay $ 3.50+ for something here but it’s sooooo much better than Starbucks and that’s the price you’d probably be paying. The place is relatively small, with a clean appearance. Very chic-y dic-y! A little disappointed I didn’t get the macarons, can’t remember if I was too blind to locate them, they were sold out, or just hidden. I will definitely come here again to grab more treats!

Very cute and clean bakery. The chocolate almond croissant was super delicious — probably one of the best I’ve ever had. Most places only have either chocolate croissants and/or almond croissants. Haven’t found very many pastry shops or bakeries that carry the combo of chocolate AND almond, and the ones that do don’t usually make them as good as the ones here. The lemon poppy seed scone was good and the mini-canele was ok, but the chocolate almond croissant is what I’d come for. They have several other non-traditional croissants that I’m looking forward to trying like the banana chocolate walnut and the pistachio rose. Love this place for it’s quality and originality.

The almond croissant was good. It reminds me of the ones I get from Maison Kayser in NYC, except those were larger and softer, yet still retaining the crispness of the exterior carmelized almond paste. I also had the berry brioche, and thought it nothing special. I was looking forward to the pretzels or perhaps the bagel, but they stopped making those products at this location. They plan to open another business to focus only on those products… I think it’s going to be in the US Bancorp building. Anyways, overall, it was fine. I just wouldn’t go out of your way for this.

The pastries are phenomenal. The staff? More like phenom. eh, No. If you’re willing to wait for them to milk the cow, pasteurize it and steam it for your latte, you’re in luck. They take their sweeeeet tiiiiiiiime. And unless you want to feel like you’re back in high school, don’t try to engage one of them. THEY’REVERYCOOL, and will will treat you like you’re wearing braces and last year’s Tom’s.

Seriously one of the best croissants I’ve ever had. The outside was crispy, but the inside was incredibly soft. The atmosphere reminds me very much of the coffee shops in Europe. It’s definitely a nice place to sit and relax.

Update: Had few more croissants and found rose and pistachio to be so sweet it hurt my teeth. Then the coffee was bit dry, and ones with sesame to be too salty I felt dehydrated. So lately I’ve been just waiting for my favorite green tea which hasn’t been available. Even Blue Star stopped producing the green tea which had least sugar and I could enjoy the slight bitter tea flavor. So with influx of Asian population in Portland I’ve no idea why places are pulling our favorite flavor off the shelf. As for espresso latte, it was pretty acidic even though I asked for one with least acid and light roast for mildness I prefer. Also at 7:30 am, to do my morning routine before my shift, there’s barely any selections on the shelf. Eh, might become monthly visit rather than weekly at this rate

Great bakery! My company has a tab here so I come in pretty regularly. My favorite menu item is the lemon poppyseed scone. It’s light, buttery, flaky, and crumbly, but moist at the same time. Not overly sweet, and the light lemon glaze is the perfect finishing touch. Their coffee and espresso drinks are also wonderful. Four stars instead of 5 because of the high prices and also watch out for some of those rose/lavender flavored items, they can taste a little soapy.

First of all, I don’t write many reviews. This place was so amazing I felt the need to let everyone else know about it. It rivals any patisserie we’ve been to in France. Our adventure started when we were walking down the street, my wife’s nose picked up the scent of fresh pastry. We went for breakfast around 9:30 and found them stocked with an assortment of croissants and quiches. Between four of us we started with 6 items. After devouring the initial offering we selected another six pastries — and promptly ate all of them with no regrets. The pastries were perfectly flaky and light. We had both sweet and savory, all of them amazing.

I went here yesterday because it was near the Hannah Andersen store plus it was time for a hot beverage & croissant. This place was like if the Apple Store branched out into coffee. Everything was clean lines & white & chic. There were beautiful art details created in the foam on the drinks that were ordered. Their chai tea was pretty mild — I like a pungent and spicy chai. For a pastry we ordered the chocolate banana & walnut croissant in addition to the curry vegetable mixture inside a roll. I don’t remember the name of the item but it was fabulous and my favorite. The main compliant I have is that there is so little sitting. I came with a group of 6 and we barely crunched in. This is not good for groups and it is not good for lounging a long time. Plus it was a bit on the pricey side.

Their croissants are delicious(my favorite one is the Pistachio Rose that they say they still make) however, every time I go there or every time I call before I go in to check if they have the(PISTACHIOROSE) croissant, they don’t have it. I would give them a better review if it wasn’t for this, but I find it kind of misleading when a business has something on their menu, but never have it at the store. This has happened for months now, I obviously don’t call or go there everyday, but I’m not exaggerating, it’s been over 6 months that every time I call or go to the store, they have always run out of them. I’ve called a few times in the morning, but heard the same thing, how can a pâtisserie run out of apparently one of the most popular croissants in the morning? I just fell like if it is something that you are still making and that you ALWAYS run out of, then you should have more of them, or, if you no longer have them, or if you don’t make them every day, then you should let customers know. I went there just today and asked if they would have it tomorrow morning and I was told that they make their croissants every morning, BUT they may not make this one tomorrow(huh?!). Also, I still have to try their macaroons, since it’s another thing that they seem to have always run out of(as I mentioned, I was there just today and they didn’t have any). Other than that, their pastries are worth trying and service has always been ok.

We read about this bakery in a Portland travel book and decided to stop in when we were shopping the pearl district. We bought a couple of macaroons and a chocolate croissant. We love macaroons. The ones here weren’t great, but not bad either. My daughter, who loves rose flavored anything, like the flavor of her rose macaroon. The croissant wasn’t all that special. The young lady working the restaurant by herself was very charming and friendly. The only reason we wouldn’t return is because there are so many other better bakeries to enjoy when visiting the area.

The Story of the Stolen Croissant Came here on a whim because da bf wanted his afternoon pastry. Being New Years Day, our choices were limited in where we could venture to for our pastry fix. I found this cute little place(not exaggerating it’s quite little) and decided to try it out. It was a bit hard to find because there isn’t any sign except for the name on the window. Inside there was a large assortment of pastries and macaroons. I saw there was only one Pistachio Rose croissant left, and new it was meant to be. I verbalized this to the bf and he agreed this was the chosen one. THENTHEJERKFACEINFRONTOFME ordered it. Yep he took the only thing I wanted in the whole café. It was my turn. I was devastated and had to ask the already annoyed cashier for another minute before deciding. I finally settled for the chocolate hazelnut croissant. Seemed the next best thing to the pistachio rose one. As I paid, the croissant thief leaned over the counter at the end of the register and while facing us, slowly bit into his Pistachio Rose masterpiece with an expression of pure indulgence. I wanted to cry. I hurried to the white counter outside to try my croissant in defeated peace, and turns out the croissant thief’s friend was also eating by the counter. The croissant thief stood DIRECTLY behind me then began to describe how oh so special and delicious it was to his friend. I was so pissed. I hope he gets diarrhea. Anyways, the croissants are great here! Too bad I live 635 miles away and won’t be able to try the pistachio rose for a very long time.

A small business located in Pearl district Portland. I recently went to Nuvrei to grab a quick bite. I tried their macarons, green tea, and salmon pretzel. Macarons were good, green tea was an average cup of tea, and salmon pretzel was great. The facility is clean and have places for you to sit down and enjoy your food, but was packed with some customers standing around the shop drinking the tea. The order process took longer than I expected with two people working behind the counter– one barista and a cashier– switching off to grab pastries.

Really great Bakery for a quick grab and go meal for breakfast or lunch. Poppd in here before our museum visit and split two sandwiches and a sweet pastry as well as a caramel latte. We were very satisfied with everything. If you need something nice, great quality, and well prepared to grab and go this is a great spot! We especially loved the smoothness of the caramel latte.

Nice little pastry/coffee place! Bright modern ambiance with the display case lit from below so the pastries glow. The bacon quiche is really flavorful, and they had just come out of the oven in the downstairs kitchen so it was still hot… soooo good! Friendly, quick service, good prices. Great for a light breakfast!

Pearl District elegance is to be found at Nuvrei. They tend to focus on croissants, macaroons and pretzel sandwiches. There is a long table at the back. Nuvrei is in an office building, and be sure not to miss the name as the logo is displayed with dark color against dark color, an unfortunate combination. Trying this was a treat. I had the rose croissant for $ 3.35, and regular is a dollar less, a much better value I see. The rose croissant was sweet and highly edible. This wasn’t the kind from those square boxes sold in bulk. It was respectable. Likely, this could be classified as a snack, instead of a nibble or a meal. Nuvrei gives the croissant the attention that it deserves.

Simply outstanding. My previous Portland trip left me with a bitter taste in my mouth after hitting up a number of well-known bakeries and walking away severely disappointed. Thankfully, this time around, my friend’s craving for a solid breakfast led us to Nuvrei(which is easier to get to than I thought). We ended up ordering far more than 2 people could possibly need, but managed to devour the lot between us. The phenomenal baked goods we inhaled were: + BERRYBRIOCHE + CHOCOLATEALMONDCROISSANT + HAM&CHEESECROISSANT + VANILLARUMCANELÉ + LOX w/DILL &CAPERCREAMCHEESEONPOPPYSEEDPRETZEL Everything was divine, and I almost went back to order more to bring on the plane home. Nuvrei is absolutely outstanding, I highly recommend paying them a visit.

It was a BITTERSWEET visit to Nuvrei today. This place is always a big highlight of my yearly visits to Portland. My excitement was quickly dampened upon finding my favorite things all gone(mostly). Instead of an assortment of macaroons(the one thing I so look forward to), there were only 3 flavors, one of which is actually my least favorite. I settled for just the salted caramel and the vanilla, both great flavors, but greatly missing the hazelnut, espresso, all the fruit flavors… etc. I still love them, but so sad to see them go. The Mac Bar, which I assumed had replaced the upstairs assortment, was closed or out of business. Not quite sure what happened there. Gone are the amazing sandwiches. Good thing I ate a big breakfast elsewhere. This is such a headscratcher for me. The sandwiches were one of the best things here… the onion bagel… OMG…and the many others. I love my sweets, but give me the savory please. Thankfully they kept the almond croissant. Get rid of that and there’d be no reason for me to visit in the future. I will say that I do have a new top contender for a favorite, the berry brioche. The pastries are always top notch, but sad to see the other changes. As another Unilocal poster said, «Why fix something that isn’t broken?» Needless to say, I leave Portland a little sad this time. Perfect weather for my grey mood.

Pretty solid bakery. I came here on a Monday afternoon and bought a pistachio rose croissant and an almond croissant. Certainly pricey, at $ 4.75 per pastry, but very, very good. The pastries were buttery and flaky with crispy edges, and fragrant filling. The flavors were spot on, and tasted genuine(not like artificial chemicals, yuck). I saved half of the almond croissant and half of the pistachio rose for breakfast the next day… still tasty! Hours a little bit inconvenient during the week if you don’t work nearby, but I thought it was worthwhile to go a little out of my way to pick up a sweet treat. Would recommend if you’re looking for something a little special and don’t mind paying a little extra for quality.

It is rare for me to go out of my way for a bakery, as I find many pastries to be sugary and without distinct flavor. But my friend insisted I come here for croissant — probably most butter laden baked good I can think of. When I arrived at quaint little bakery, I was surprised by beautiful alignment of sweets and savory displayed as art. Each was little different from one another but shared intricate layers of flaky crust and colors derived from natural ingredients. I selected rose croissant, which was soft and had light fragrance of the flower, which was delicious combined with herbal tea. Later I had matcha chocolate croissant which was more moist and sweet, not as bitter as I had assumed using green tea. Both were small portion so it was perfect snack in the go. Next time I’m returning for savory selections for lunch! I can’t imagine going back to any other croissants anymore, as I loved the balance of smaller portion, flaky crust, and varied flavors.

Beautiful place! Great coffee, interesting assortment of pastries. This is not the kind of place where you hang out for 5 hours to work on your lame novel. This is the place you stop for a midday treat. Stunning pastries! But stay away from the rosewater ones. Way, WAY too much rosewater. It’s like biting into a sweet perfume drenched bread. My friend and I both gagged. Literally. The sticky buns are incredible! Get those! And an almond milk latte!

Nuvrei has many flavors of croissant and canelé as well as other pastries. I tried the plain, matcha glaze, and sesame thyme. I liked the sesame thyme best, though none of the croissants blew me away. The croissants, which were $ 3 — $ 5 depending on flavor, were a bit pricey given that they were rather petite. I also had a bacon cheddar biscuit. The bacon was pleasantly chewy. My bf loved his lemon canelé.

The bakery is cute. The macaroons are so pretty to look at. Everything in this bakery is nice,. The only reason I gave them a 2 star is because I spent over 35 $ for macaroons and they ended up tasting disgusting so I threw them all away. Now i don’t know if I just got a bad batch or picked all the wrong flavors or what, but I was seriously disappointed in the macaroons. I heard good things about this place, it was nice and clean, the service was good, if only the macaroons tasted that good. I will give this place another shot… someday.

I am in love with nuveri. Their food was awesome and the Mac bar downstairs is wonderful. The best deal is the pick 3 macaroons for $ 9. He rose and the violet are by far my favorites. I can’t wait till their new location in Big Pink opens up!
