LexiDog Boutique & Social Club

I have been bringing my dog, Poppy D Pirate, to Lexi in the Pearl, and to the SE location, for just about a year now. He goes M-​F while I work, sometimes LONG days.
I have been reading some of the comments on Unilocal about team members who don’t seem engaged. I can only share my own experiences– from going there daily. I find the team to be very engaged with the dogs. They greet each one by name, and my dog RUNS to them when we walk through the door. They tell me how his day was when I pick him up. I have had phone calls at work twice in the past year from team members who felt like Poppy was a bit ‘off’. (Turns out he was tired) The fact that they notice this behavior change and call me means a lot, and tells me they DO care a lot about my dog. I received a text photo one day when Poppy barfed up something. The team member was worried he had eaten gum, but I could tell from the photo that it was a piece of carrot he had eaten before I dropped him off.
I talk to the people that work there every day. I know that the people who accept positions here care about and love dogs based on conversations I have with them. YES, it can get loud, YES sometimes it smells like dog. So does my car. There is a dog in it every day. My primary concern is that my dog feels safe and happy and is not bored or scared. He LOVES going to Lexi and has become a social dog because he sees dogs and people every day.
I really like that they have an adoption center at one of their locations, and hold many fundraisers annually to help dog rescues. That also tells me they truly care about dogs.
They hold fun events like costume parties at Halloween, at no expense to the dog owners– but simply because they love dogs and their clients.
I absolutely and without reservation trust the team at Lexi. I know from the way they behave that they love and truly care about my dog.

Wow wow wow. This place stinks of pee. Inside and outside. I would never let me dogs go here. How are they even in business?!

This place is wonderful! The staff is super-​sweet! My dog Mia had an encounter with a skunk on a Saturday night and they were open on Sunday. They fit her in with no problems and the groomer did such a stellar job getting my dog to smell better as well trimming her nails. Her haircut looks awesome too! I will definitely take my dog back there.

Thanks LexiDog. I guess one 1* review wasn’t enough so I’ll give another. 8 months later your dogs are still crapping on my door step and this time my store lights were even on. I’d never trust my dog in the hands of people stupid enough to do shit like this.

Today we had an event to raise money for a local animal shelter and Lexi Dog sent Sara and she was fantastic. Lexi Dog is a very friendly and professional place, your dog will love these people!

After my dog’s groomer moved to LexiDog in the Pearl in Portland I looked for groomers closer to my house. I looked for safety, cleanliness and competency of the groomer. I wasn’t satisfied with any of the four places I checked out. Finally I followed my dog’s groomer, Sara to LexiDog in the Pearl. She’s always been kind to my elder cocker and accomplishes an excellent grooming on my little guy who needs a ‘rest break’ now and then.
Concerning daycare: Some of the bad reviews are from California. This confuses me. There might be LexiDog Groomers in California.
I asked about daycare In the Pearl. They have 2 – 3 people back in the daycare area during the week which is more than adequate amount of people. I didn’t notice any smells that were unusual for a doggy daycare area. As for yelling at the dogs, the daycare near my house that my guy goes to uses yelling as a technique and it quiets the 50 + dogs immediately. And they all seem happy and playful.
If your dog needs grooming I’d recommend LexiDog in the Pearl in Portland and Sara. Also, the front desk person was friendly and helpful.

Our Mimi LOVES Lexi Dog on Macadam. Has been going there for years several times a week and is always excited to arrive! Thank you Lexi Dog on Macadam!

I have been bringing my small dog here for grooming and daycare for years. The staff is friendly and most of them recognize my dog as soon as I walk in the door. It’s wonderful to pick my little fur baby up at the end of the day, exhausted from a day of play and activities.
Heather the groomer, does an awesome job and I truly believes she treats my dog as is he were her own.

I would give them 0 stars if it were an option. I live a few blocks away… and can smell the pee and poop from here!!! summer is the worst! if you can smell it outside think how bad it smells inside! customer service is atrocious & clearly they don’t clean up after the pets! IF YOU SEND YOUR DOG HERE — YOU DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR PET OR THEIR HEALTH! my friend thinks her dog got kennel cough form this place!

The groomer at Lexi Dog did a great job cutting my difficult little chihuahuas nails! I’ve had a hard time finding anyone who has been able to cut them short and deal with him in such a great way! Thanks!

Went in with a pure bred Schnauzer, came out looking like a cheap poodle. Needless to say, these were not my instructions.
I will add that I phoned the groomer later in the day, and in her defense my instructions were not properly relayed. She offered to reshape his head, but I believe I will not make another trip to this over priced establishment.
I gave 2 stars because he seemed well cared for while he was there.

Having a new puppy, I wanted her to experience play with all types of dogs. I was very excited to see that Lexi dog in LO had a small dog play group on Saturday according to their website. Great! Went all the way there and they were closed, weird. Called their pearl location and no one answered. Went or the next play group at the pearl the next day and was poorly greeted by a young women who should be working at Chanel with that horrible attitude. I asked about the LO playgroup and she told me that they haven’t had one there for months and the website is too hard to update? Yeah ok. The whole two hours I was at the playgroup, no employee popped in to check trash, cleaning supplies. Nothing. This is just an overpriced joke of a store.

Customer service is always a bit lacking here. Not necessarily the most friendly. However, I have taken my pet care for grooming several times, and the results always seem pretty good.

They close earlier than the hours on the door. Hard to give a good review when they are not open for business.

I want to preface this review by saying that I usually never write bad reviews or complain but today, I am joining Unilocal because I feel that strongly about what happened to my dog yesterday at LexiDog. I feel obligated to warn anyone considering taking their dog here to be groomed.
When I came in with my dog, I met Beth (the groomer) and we started discussing what I wanted for my dog’s haircut. I told her that I knew he was pretty matted in the body area and I knew he would have to be short but I asked if she could keep his «teddy bear» face. He is normally a very cute white, fluffy dog. She checked his face for knots and said she would for sure be able to keep the «teddy bear» face and that his body hair would probably be ¼−½ inch.
When I came to pick my dog up, his entire body and face was shaved except for his ears and his tail. His body was shaved all the way until his skin and his «teddy bear» face was completely ruined. She either didn’t listen at all to what I said about keeping his face the way it was or she just didn’t care enough to try. When I went to pay, they had the audacity to tell me that they were going to charge me an extra $ 5 because he was matted. I told them that that would make sense if Beth had attempted to brush my dog out but she just shaved him. They insisted that no, that was their policy. I was so shocked that I just paid and left, but when I got home I realized truly how horrible the situation was.
Not only did Beth give my dog a haircut that looked like it was done in 5 minutes (even though I waited 3.5 hours for him to be done), not only did she not listen to what I wanted and try to make me, the customer, happy, but the haircut that she did give my dog was uneven, had patches of hair missing completely, and she had nicked the pads on his front feet that are in his wrist area (not sure of the official term for this). They have been bleeding off and on for the past 24 hours now. I called to complain and get my money back and luckily with some persuasion and telling them that a store credit will do me no good since I will never step foot in their store again in my life, they agreed to give me a full refund. But when I called to complain about his bleeding feet, they blew it off acting like it was no big deal. I’m sorry but there is no other way to describe this grooming experience besides HORRIBLE. I have taken my dog to other groomers and they have had to cut him short, but they still stay true to his overall cut/​shape and make him look similar to when he first walked in the door. Beth did just the opposite. My dog looked like a completely different dog when I picked him up. It is obvious that she rushed through this haircut, making no effort to brush him first, and having no regard for his safety… shaving him quickly and unevenly and nicking his paws as well. Beth is horrible and should not be allowed to touch another dog in her life.
Overall advice: AVOID DOG GROOMING AT LEXIDOG AT ALL COSTS!!!

DO NOT LET HEATHER ANYWHER NEAR YOUR DOG! I took my dog to Heather when she was owner of another grooming facility. One day after leaving my dog with her, I got a call that he had had a heart attack on the table. She had to rush him to the vet next door and have him injected with a stimulant so his heart would start. He made it through. She blamed her new groomer (who later left) for having the noose too tight. But I found out from witnesses that what actually happened was that Heather had been working on him and she left him on the table alone on with the noose around his neck while she went to the bathroom. He walked off the table and hung himself. His heart stopped. Another time she shaved my little cat so close that she had a bloody back. And a friend of mine told me he saw her kick his dog to get herto go through the door. If you value your pets, DO NOT take them to her. At the very least, stay and watch while she grooms.
There are lawsuits pending!

My wife and I had been taking our Miniature Australian Labradoodle «Helmut» to Lexi in the Pearl since he was a few months old. Over the past 4 years we have noticed the quality of service decline and it was unfortunately having a dog attack Helmut during his time there to finally change our daycare to «Sniff» up the street. What is most disturbing are these facts from the dog attack.
1) They called and said it was a scratch at 1PM. They assured us that he was fine and recommended that we keep him in Daycare for the rest of the day. When we picked him up at 6pm, he was visibly shaking and upon inspection, we discovered it was a one inch rip in his ear that needed stitches.
2) No one at Lexi could give a proper account of what happened or pinpoint what dog had attacked Helmut.
I spoke with Suzanne the owner and told her that she should of recommended Vet care immediately as talking out dog to emergency care after hours was a premium cost to us. ($ 600 for the emergency visit and an additional $ 125 for the vet follow up). I expressed my concern that she had no idea of what dog had attacked Helmut and I felt that this could happen again to another dog. When I mentioned that a security camera to review serious incidents like this to assure there are no «biters» in the group she pushed this option back as «unnecessary» as she «trusted her staff» to be the eyes and ears of the daycare. I now see this as a huge red flag as other doggie daycares do offer this service. It is sadly apparent that this owner has lost touch with the client’s needs and the pet’s safety. I asked her to call me back when they add security cameras. It has been a year later and no call back… If you care about your pets safety don’t take them here for day care.

Our miniature dachshund goes gaga for LexiDog in the Pearl! We live nearby and it’s the ideal location for him to exercize his legs while we’re at work for a long day. We adopted him at 10 weeks old and over the past 10 months he’s become a social, fun-​loving pet as a result of visits with other dog friends at LexiDog and for this we’re grateful.
Danny the Dachshund’s favorite things:
1. Weekday Playgroup — The girls running it are fantastic and you can tell he loves them back by his crazy tail wagging. At the end of the day, they provide you with a report card sharing details of his day… who did he play with, what people were working with him that day, and details of his bowel movements. As a pet parent, this makes you feel so good to know what happened in your doggy’s day.
2. Sunday Social Hour — When it rains in Portland the furry friends are desperate for some fun. Our favorite Sunday activitiy is coffee and play time at Lexi. We head there for the 10am-​12noon group for smaller dogs and have fun with pugs, doxies and chihuahuas among others. It’s fun for the humans as well to play ball and chat. And with Nuvrei Café right next door, it’s easy to bring your pup into the hallway for a moment while you pick up a treat for yourself.
3. Shopping — When Danny’s been extra good he can pick out a treat or toy and they have great varierty. We also pick up his special food there (Evangers) and they sometimes have coupons. Finally, holiday extras are great — from Easter to Christmas you can find some really cute items to spoil your pup.
It’s clear that the employees at LexiDog really enjoy spending time with all the furballs and we’re so glad Danny has some amazing friends — great and small!

So, on a beautiful day that was final blessed upon us, I take my rather handsome golden retriever Boscoe out for a stroll through the Pearl. As he just finished drooling at the door of Cupcake Jones, nearly swiping a dollop of frosting from an innocent 2 year old, I see LexiDog and think «I love spoiling my dog, let’s see what this place has».
The store is nice. I will give them that. The service, Ew. The rather harsh looking woman behind the corner asked me if I needed any help (good first step), and I told that we were just looking. Now, I realize that I may be spoiled by regular comments about by dog. He is really a great dog, and really is handsome (trust me). I guess I was just expecting that in a pet shop, as in all the other pet shops I have been in, the person in the store would have done a little gushing on my dog. I mean, my best pal doesn’t always help me pick up guys, but he sure the hell gets store owners wrapped around his little paws and they end up filling him up with treats and some love. This witch was too busy finding a place for her broom to give my baby the time of day. Particularly after I told her I was just looking. She just gave him a «Oh» and a big huff. I hate huffers.
Then, when I asked about a specific treat (since my dog has a touchy stomach), she briskly told me that they do NOT carry that product, then she went back to playing on her cell phone, probably planning a broom rendezvous with her other crabby friends whom hate golden retrievers.
I would like to think I could walk into any pet store on any given Saturday and be given a nice greeting, whether I bought anything or not. Boscoe loves everyone, but his owner does not.
