I bought a pair of super cute grey knee-high socks here, but they don’t stay up. Boo. Lesson learned: don’t spend your twelve dollars of cocktail money on socks. They’re still super cute though. My friend Abby headed back to to the SALE section, and found a perfect-for-her– pair of green Keans – from 70 bucks down to $ 17.(WOW!) And the friendly guy working said she could still return ‘em, even without a receipt(she gave him her phone number) for a refund. The guy was the nicest guy I’ve seen today, the socks are cute, though not completely functional, and the shoes were a complete steal.

Terrible customer service. Another reviewer(Erin L.) hit the nail on the head — this store should be called Snob Hill. I purchased a pair of shoes that I was very excited about. After making the purchase, the salesperson informed my they were having a sale the next week. Great, I thought, maybe the shoes I bought will be on sale, and I can return them for a discount. The salesperson informed me they have a 30 day return policy for unworn items. I left my shoes in their box and returned a week later. Sure enough, the shoes I purchased were on sale for 20% off. I tried to return them and purchase them at the discount, but the salesperson said she could not do this. I was surprised, as this is pretty standard practice at most businesses. Moreover, their return policy is for exchange or store credit only, so once you make the purchase, they have you. The salesperson refused to budge. I would much rather support small, local businesses than large chains or internet companies. But, I will not do business with Nob Hill Shoes unless they improve their customer service. Incidentally, I could have purchased the same shoes at or at REI and wish I had.

Some of the shoes they put outside caught my eyes so we decided to check out the place. Good selection of comfortable shoes in good shades of color and most are pretty good prices. However, their stock in size is somewhat limited. Apparently, whatever size on display is the smallest available — this is NOT the sale section. After striking out on many pairs, I was happy to have found a pair I can fit — half size smaller than normal but it did fit. The person(not sure if she’s the owner or just a salesperson) wasn’t very friendly, which is very unfortunate. They have very cool looking shoes hung on the wall near the register — very creative and dramatic. We were told they are shoes submitted for some shoe decorating contest that happens annually.

Yikes. Spendy. Very spendy. Do head to the back for the«last pair» deals so that it’s only kind of spendy.

An alternative to the ultra hip stores on NW23rd, Nob Hill calls it like it sees it– with dansko, el naturalista, and keen shoes. But– they manage to pick the crème of the crop in colors that will surprise and delight. I feel hard for a pair of teal mary janes from a new south american shoe maker that I can’t remember the name of. They also had a sale section in the back, you know you like it cheap, especially with the high cost of comfortable chic kicks, which I didn’t check out but would recommend by default.
