This place was great! I wish I was staying in Portland longer so I could try the other great sandwiches and burgers. The curly fries were delicious also. The owner of the cart was super friendly. Came to Portland on vacation and decided to stay and open up a food cart. I’ll be back next time I’m in town. Love places like this that have a story. I wish I had more cash with me to tip him what he deserved.

Lower East Side Deli contains a large slew of American sandwiches, many from Chicago or Boston. The cost is often only $ 5 or $ 6 for the sandwiches alone and they interestingly have several varieties of Italian Beef. I walked up and ordered the $ 9 dollar combo they offer where you get a sandwich, fries and a drink. The man at the counter was friendly. The place had some gourmet equipment, especially an expensive looking slicer. I saw a photo of him as a chef, which increased my expectations and the ingredients seemed to be assembled skillfully. I had a chicken parm sandwich. The chicken parm was deep fried and tossed around in a pan with the ingredients sprinkled and assembled around intricately, not to mention the bread and the cheese assembled skillfully, even to go on a simple sandwich. The tomato did not feel as fresh as it could have, but otherwise the meal was great. Sandwiches clearly receive due passion here. It came in a neat bag with fries and a soda. The fries had a interesting cheese sprinkled upon it and it tasted great. I could have decided to ask for ketchup, but I did not need to. The sandwich was less messy than you would expect for fried chicken and tomatoes. It tasted the way I would have hoped with the crunch and sweetness. Chicken parm has a sandwich that has very particular characteristics and they were clearly satisfied. I loved the portions. Lower East Side Deli is well kept and the food tastes good. The taste had nothing to contend with and the feel of it was enchanting. There are lots of other sandwiches that are even more difficult to make than the common chicken parm and I look forward to trying to them. The place is simple — getting the basics of food and customer service down. It was at a low price and just as good as the trendy, «must see» places. I have liked but rarely been thrilled by traditional sandwiches in Portland, despite being consistently thrilled with most of our restaurant and cart food far more often than elsewhere, even TILT and Big Ass Sandwiches get overhyped. Though our ubiquitous fried chicken between two biscuits in gravy and bacon is to die for. This was a good all around sandwich that was appealing to more levels and taste buds. Although the menu is large, many ingredients on sandwiches stay the same. In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, I’ll be back. The good food they give you for the very low price is astounding. Lower East Side Deli stands for a solid lunch.
