I’ve been on the hunt for the best mexican food in portland and this place is defnitely near the top of the list. Excellent guac and killer burritos /chimichangas. Definitely recommend!

Came to eat a late breakfast and it was very good! The staff is very friendly and it’s a plus that they’re bilingual for casual non Spanish speakers that want to come dine in. I ordered the chilaquiles with green sauce which satisfied my appetite for something more than just eggs and bacon. The sauce was spicy which is what I look for in a Mexican dish! Yum! I tried the Posole my honey got and I wish I had room for a bowl of my own. Lol The soup is great, nice and dark red, plenty of meat and full of flavor. And not too spicy which is great since the soup is already very hot. He ordered a side of cheese quesadillas which can never be done wrong but they add a side of sour cream and pico de gallo with it which was great. The horchata was ladle scooped into a glass rather than machine poured and no ice! I love it without ice! To go boxes in publics reach which is nice. We both definitely had left overs. Good sized portion of food. We will be back! Thank you

I’ve been looking for some good Mexican food after relocating to Portland, and I definitely found it at La Bonita. I ordered their enchilada special — your choice of 2 chicken, cheese, or steak enchiladas with a great sauce with rice and beans included for $ 8.50. I left very full and felt it was well worth the money. My cousin ordered the veggie burrito and it was so large she had to bring half of it home. The rice was cooked well but the beans were a bit bland. My two complaints with this place and the reason for a lack of a star — the interior is really cheesy and unwelcoming. Waiting in a long line and staring at an entire wall of their family photos was kind of uncomfortable. Speaking of the long line, it was a Friday evening around 6pm and the line was out the door. After 10 minutes in line, the customers ahead of us ordered mixed drinks, so the cashier had to make them and ignored the rest of the line for another 10 minutes without even acknowledging us. Very rude. Prepare to wait if you come at a peak dinner time.

La Bonita has been on Alberta for a good long while now. Longer than you’ve been here. They make breakfast burritos all day long. There are no other burritos. Only breakfast. I don’t care if you think burritos in LA are better. I don’t care if you think burritos in SF are better. I don’t care if you think burritos in San Diego are better. Go home. I like these burritos. They are really tasty. Quite tasty in fact.

Tacos were awesome, quesadilla was gooey delish and enchiladas were bomb. We loved everything. The chicken was marinated SO well and grilled to perfection. Big portions, great prices, open later. Will be back!

Been here 3x’s. The food is good sopes are cooked just right and not friend got chicken tacos and a chicken burrito. Said they wrte both yummy. Only reason im not rating 5 stars is they charge for every thing, example: i didnt want cheese or sour cream on my sopes i asked them in place of that could they add avocado, said they could add it but they would charge me, i didnt bother asking how much, i was surprised that they couldnt just give me some avocado in place of the cheese and sour cream. I ordered 3 sopes and a side of beans and tortillas. When i went to the counter to pick up my food; i asked if i could have some carrots they wanted to charge me $ 1.50 for that. Ive ordered the guacamole twice and dont think i will again, it was not very fresh. The food is very good.

A little expensive for what you get. If you don’t care about the fancy atmosphere and healthier options you can go to La Sirenita next door for half the price. I switch back and forth between the two. La Bonita’s meat isn’t greasy and I like how instead of a two day old taco shell they give you fresh chips when ordering taco salads. Servers are friendly, and the atmosphere is clean and twice as large as their competition next door. Great breakfast and don’t forget to try a glass of horchata.

Just moved to the area and was in search of quick but good Mexican food. Came to this place, and yes yum! Since I’m an adult and do what I want, I had their homemade delicious flan first. Perfect custard with caramel deliciousness. Then the huge burrito! I got the simple pollo, cheese, rice, beans, onions, lettuce and cilantro burrito [husband got the carne asada burrito]. It was perfect! The chicken was actually grilled and had a hint of charcoal on it. The flavors meshed well, no need for sour cream or guac. I will say the dining area tables were all dirty, and i couldn’t find napkins anywhere(might have just been me tho) but they were busy so it’s understandable. I recommend!

Awesome burritos! Massive size for a very good price! I’ve liked everything I’ve tried here, especially the burritos. They have two rooms of indoor seating and a few tables outside when the weather is nice. Check it out sometime.

I used to live in this neighborhood and came to La Bonita all the time. The other night we went for a soak at Common Ground, then came here afterwards for dinner. Upon ordering, their fajita salad sounded exactly like what I wanted, but after paying $ 10 and receiving my food, I realized I had misunderstood and that there was no meat in the salad whatsoever. Also, spring greens are great, but they are the wrong choice of lettuce for a salad with this kind of heft to it. Spring greens will never stand up to heavy toppings like guac and sour cream and grilled veggies :( Not their fault, just wish that was more clearly noted as a vegetarian item on the menu. I went back up to the counter to see if I could add some meat to it, and the guy kindly offered to grill up some steak for me and just charge me for a taco. Sounded fair to me, but then 10 minutes later he brought me a tiny plate with about $.50 worth of meat on it and apologized that the cook had misunderstood what he said, and left me with a free burrito punch card as a consolation. Why didn’t he just have him grill up more meat? In the end, I paid $ 13.50 for a disappointing salad + 3 bites of meat, and had no other protein in it besides the scoop of guac. Sadly, a free burrito card isn’t much of a consolation prize for someone who lives clear across town and didn’t even want a burrito in the first place. Not saying I’ll never be back, but with so many other good food options on Alberta now, it will take a lot of convincing. Upside: service was friendly and courteous, I’ll give them that.

Delicious and Cheap $ I have absolutely no complaints here. We ordered 3 soft grilled chicken tacos and 2 soft grilled fish tacos for $ 15. SOTASTY. Tacos are regular sized and not small. If you’re hungry, I suggest 3 tacos(maybe 4, if you’re THAT hungry). You could do 3 tacos and a side of rice or beans. My friend ordered a margarita and he said it was really good. He had a spicy one. Parking is on the street. Lucky for us, we parked right in front.

Oh, for want of a new tile floor. Honestly, the food here isn’t bad(though I found my chicken fajita burrito to be a bit more bland than I was expecting given the other reviews), and it’s a great value for the massive portions. But the whole time we were there, I kept staring at the floor, because no matter how clean the rest of the place seemed(and it did!), the tile is that kind where grime just gets caked into the pits and crevasses. FWP, to be sure, but it’s hard to trust eating at a place when it looks like the floor needs a good scrub. Still, I’m not ruling out La Bonita as a quick lunch stop. Next time I just need to get takeout.

We love La Bonita! We frequent this place for our Mexican food cravings. The tacos are delicious, chimichangas are amazing, super delicious nachos… everything here is so tasty.

meh. fish tacos. just kind of bland all around. not a lot of color. not a lot of flavor. requested two tacos a la carte and got a mess of rice and beans I did not want. just didn’t feel the love here and considering there are so many interesting places to eat up and down Alberta, I can’t see any reason to come back.

perfectly acceptable burritos. not my favorite spot but all around pretty darn good. the place is decorated a bit cheesy and cliché but it’s clean and has super friendly service. always a good option if you’re at that end of alberta.

I want to love you as I used to love you more. Very little dry, crackeled el pastor on my burrito, but lots of rice to make it huge. Stuffed with the cheap fillers. You can have quality, I realize its costly, but step it up. I do love you your verde sauce, just don’t over-cook and provide more meat less carbs. Thanks.

After seeing all of the reviews on Unilocal my husband and I were really excited to give La Bonita a try. My husband had the meat nachos. I had the beef burrito with added sour cream. While the portions were big, the flavor was not. Both of the nachos and burrito were extremely bland. I added hot sauce to my burrito(something that I NEVER do) just to give it some flavor. My husband put on two different types of hot sauces on his nachos to do the same. Perhaps if I added some add ons like pico it would have been better but I didn’t think a restaurant highlighting Mexican cuisine would be low on flavor! The guacamole was nothing special, I’ve made better in my own kitchen. The staff were friendly and restaurant is clean. You have to bus your own table when you’re done but that’s really not a big deal. Next time I’m in Portland I will go somewhere else to get my Mexican food fix.

My boyfriend and I went here for dinner tonight… bad choice. I had read good reviews and was eager to try this place. We ordered an al pastor burrito smothered in red and green sauce and a chicken burrito smothered in red sauce and chips and salsa. The chips and salsa came out first and were pretty good. But then our burritos came out and in both of our first bites we had to spit out the chewy fatty meat that was almost inedible. I do have to say that I really enjoyed their red sauce and their spicy green sauce but the meat was so bad in both of our burritos I couldn’t even finish. For our 3 items it came out to be $ 21.00, which is pretty pricey if you ask me for the quality of the food. I would have given La Bonita 3 stars because of the chips and salsa and the red and green sauce, but now that we’re home we are both feeling really sick to our stomachs…1 star it is…
