Clary Sage Herbarium

I went in as a new customer to the store, rather than my usual herb shop, hearing that it was Queer friendly. I asked how much an entire jar of an item would be, intending to buy the whole thing. The employee couldn’t tell me how much the entire contents of the jar weighed. Half of the store inventory is in those exact same mason jars. I asked her if she knew how much the jar weighed and she said no! I became frustrated, because I wanted to buy the contents of the jar and perhaps other things, all I wanted to know was how much it cost. She ended up weighing some of the jar out for me into a small container but telling me she could put no more in the container because it would be hard to put back. I was so frustrated that I just took the amount that she had on the scale and left. I mean really, wasn’t there an empty mason jar somewhere in that store that she could put on the scale to zero it out and find out how much it weighed so I could buy it? I mean, I wanted to buy the whole thing, isn’t that a good thing? I was greeted with nothing but unfriendliness and frustration. So much for queer friendly, how about just friendly.

Went in here for the first time to buy some lemon grass essential oil. Lovely, reasonably priced, and cozy. Plus, the guy behind the counter was real friendly. I’ll definitely be back when I have more time to check out some of the other things they have to offer!

Laurie is the shop owner and very knowledgeable in herbal remedies. Go down the cute little walkway and arrive in a magical world herbs, stones, tea, tarot cards, jewlelry and special animal totems. Something for everyone! Outside are seedlings to start your own herbal garden! Must visit this quaint special spot!

Clary Sage Herbarium is so excellent. They have basically anything you need as well as some cute witchy supplies. The owner is very friendly and everyone who works there is as well, and also quite knowledgeable. I go there whenever I need herbs. Love it. Five stars.

One of the best places in Portland to grab herbs teas, chakra candles, sage, Essential oils & other stuff to make natural medicine. They also have Tara cards in other Native American stuff that I have no clue how to use.
They have a complementary Tea station and they have a smudge station two so you can smudge before or after you leave.
The owner is extremely nice and knowledgeable I’ve been coming here for over year they now have a punchcard so that’s awesome

Love their selection of herbs. I went there for their liver detox tea, which was great. The prices are good and the people who work there are really helpful and nice. I didn’t feel pressured and they were able to answer my many questions. Oh I also found an Amethyst Quartz Crystal Sphere Ball for not an outrageous price. I had been searching for one forever. This made me overjoyed.

I like the owner here. She’s really helpful and patient with me… I tend to be slow and take a long time deciding.
It’s one of the cutest shops I’ve seen with reasonable prices and lots of choice… and great customer service!

There are a good variety of oils, but it’s hard having a desire to purchase from here when the older woman (who I assume runs the shop) is pushy, cold and condescending. I felt very uncomfortable when she asked me if I was going to buy something, as if I was waisting her time.
I went with a few friends who immediately walked out of the shop, their reason was because they felt bad energy coming from the shop keeper. Their words, not mine, I’m just the messenger. I usually will give people the benefit of the doubt, she could of been having a bad day, who knows? First impressions are hard to shake and I can’t bring myself to visit this store again without feeling shame and guilt for not buying anything before. That’s not my cup of tea, there are plenty of shops I can get better priced oils from, normally I don’t like to do this as I enjoy supporting small mom and pop shops, but my experience has gotten the better of me.

What a cute, clean & organized shop, packed to the gills with good stuff. The space is on Alberta Street, tucked back a ways from the street. The herb, tea and art/​crafts selection is unique, tasteful & much bigger than you might expect from such a small place. Found a cardamom tincture I now swear by. The staff is helpful and friendly and it feels great to be able to support a small, local business rather than some mega-​herb company online.

Clary Sage is such a lovely little shop. They have a wonderful selection of not only dried herbs and tinctures, but teas, incense, and jewelry as well. I am always able to find what I need. The prices are actually very good for the quality of herbs you are getting. The older woman (not old! just older than the other woman I’ve encountered) who works there is very sweet and helpful. Recommendations: The Woods incense, Dermal Blend tincture (for clear skin), lavender oat tincture for relaxation, and all the tea :)

I’ve been a Clary Sage customer for a while and I was always taken aback how Laurie remembered me each time after the first and was always genuinely interested in me.
CSH is the most beautiful, well-​planned, intentional and most diverse herbal medicine medicinary I’ve ever been too. And with hot tea everyday, it’s an incredibly joyful experience. CSH adds human interaction back into a monetary exchange and that is so rare!
Like Kayla, I also disagree with AZ, but I see she’s rated everyone in town horribly. Wildcrafting, even herbal farming and processing take a full time job, I mean 1lb of dried Dandelion is HUGE! Plus Laurie is very knowledge and anything you need in the store she probably has or can order. This store maybe be tiny but it has so many items well placed. Laurie should be an IKEA showroom designer.

Clary Sage is absolutely wonderful. When I ran out of my old anxiety tea, Laurie handcrafted a blend that was even more potent and successful than my previous. The Serenity Blend tincture is a lifesaver. I was so pleased with the dosage! When I start to feel a bit overwhelmed, I only need a drop to start feeling well again.
I wholeheartedly disagree with the previous comment from «AZ»: I think Clary Sage is very fairly priced. You’re paying for a great product, and the guidance from an Herbalist who knows what she’s talking about. Not everyone has the time to harvest, season, and root herbs, and Clary Sage puts in all the work sourcing for those who aren’t as knowledgable in foraging or as talented to do so. She even has a wall of resources for those who want to learn! You should give her much more credit. The point is to support local, even if it is easier to buy something cheaper and not as fresh online. This is Portland, after all.

It looks nice, but it’s a HUGE rip-​off. Everything is way overpriced, especially the herbs. Before buying here, check online. Or better yet, look in your own yard! Many herbs they are selling for $ 70+ per pound can be found amidst the grass of your lawn.

My boyfriend went to this tiny shop to purchase Marshmallow Root as we were not able to find it at any other local stores. The price was great for the quantity, and the owner/​manager was helpful as well. I will be going again to restock on supplies.

I like this place. She has all kind of herbs and dried teas. It was a little hard to find at first, a tiny little shop behind another building. When I run out of tea I’ll be going back to pick some up here. I like to support small local business.

this is a cool shop. it’s kinda hidden from the street, but once you get in, it’s quite intriguing. the shop owner makes all her own tea blends, and there are herbs for all sorts of ailments and health concerns. she’s quite helpful as well. we came away w/​a bunch of concoctions in order to get ourselves healthy.
