Pretty standard local dive bar. Friendly people, friendly staff– it is what it is, nothing too exceptional about the food or drinks or atmosphere but it isn’t bad. A good place to hang after dinner or out with a group– there are games a plenty.

Fantastic place! We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning and it was great. Good service, delicious food and a huge Bloody Mary bar. It was a bit overwhelming, but so fun to see so many choices. I don’t know what some of the people who were poo-pooing Holmans were thinking but we loved it and we’ll be back!

I’d always walked by Holman’s when I lived in Portland, but on a visit this weekend a friend brought me here for brunch, and I wished I hadn’t passed it up before! The feta omelet and hash browns were sizable and delicious, and the Bloody Mary bar — my introduction to Bloody Marys — was worth the visit.(Baby corn and pickled green beans = delicious.) Friendly, prompt service, and good atmosphere.

Oh. Dear. God. My first choice for breakfast was closed due to an ice storm and this place was nearby and open. And they had a peppered bacon Benedict so I figured what the hell. I walked in and it was a a nice warm looking dive bar. I like those. The waitress was very friendly and brought me a cup of coffee. I ordered said Benedict and it was brought in a timely manner. Except for when she waited on a nearby table that’s pretty much the last time I saw the friendly waitress until I finished choking down the Benedict. Consequently I had to make my first cup of coffee last the whole meal. Back to the«choking down» part. The Benedict came with homemade hash browns. Which looked very good. However, they tasted like they were cooked on a griddle desperately in need of cleaning. In fact everything on the plate tasted like rancid grease. In hindsight I should have just stopped by McDonalds… and I don’t even like McDonalds.

Somewhat cute bar. Bitchy bar tender who should be fired and not work there. Talk about miserable customer service. She rather talk to her friends then take your order. As for food,. Burger was disgusting. Meat was bad don’t go there to eat to drink you’ll be fine as long as your okay waiting for your drink to be served whenever the bar tender feels like getting to you

Dive bar done RIGHT. Not the gross-sticky-floors, afraid-you’ll-get-hepatitis* kind of dive bar; the unpretentious, weird yard-sale décor, Big Buck Hunter HD dive bar. Just homey enough and seemingly uninfiltrated by too many hipsters. I can’t speak to the food, but there was good, attentive service(at least on a slow Sunday evening). Our table had a funhouse tilt, but that just added to the charm. *points if you get the 10 Things I Hate About You reference

I went to Holman’s for brunch randomly with a couple friends while in the neighborhood. My friend had insisted and I figured«Why not! I’ve heard they’ve got a custom Bloody Mary bar!.» I was wrong. They were not particularly busy, but for some reason our food(standard items off the menu with no adjustments) took about a FULLHOUR to come out. The food was fine, not unpleasant, but nothing exciting(and with so many exciting options in this city, and even in this neighborhood, why bother with food that isn’t exciting??). Also, I don’t know why anyone likes this Bloody Mary bar. It is literally a shelf with way too many(30? 40?) random bottles of premade Bloody Mary mix, a lot of hot sauce, and then some blah accompaniments(when we went there were pickled green beans, celery, and then this diced carrot/celery pickle which you would have just had to stir into your drink because its just little pieces of vegetables). Why can’t you offer tomato juice, plus the condiments that make a bloody mary(horseradish, worcestershire, lemon, garlic, etc.), good accompaniments, and maybe some sort of skewer so that IF you offer tiny little pieces of things, one could actually keep them from sinking to the bottom of their drink? Nope. nope. nope. never again.

This is one of my favorite bars to go to lately — very chill and I love their patio. If their bar food was better, this place would be five stars for sure. The service is great, all the waiters/waitresses are friendly and chill. I really like the area it’s in — more laid back. It tends to get pretty busy on the weekends — hard to find spots outside for a bigger group. I’m a regular for sure!

I want very badly to love this bar because I live nearby, but it consistently fails to warrant anything above or below an average grade. Is it awful? Absolutely not. But it also lacks anything special, memorable, or enticing — other than perhaps its fantastic location in the center of increasing popular 28th. I have ordered probably six things from the menu and none of them have been especially impressive(although not terrible either), and service is usually on the slow side. Holman’s seems to be stuck in bar purgatory — not bad enough to be offensive, but not compelling enough to deserve repeat business.

Right up there with my top 5 fav bars I’ve visited. They have a whiskey club which is fun if you’re into that, there’s over like X amount of diff whiskeys you have to drink on separate occasions to be part of this«club»(it’s a lot of them so I can remember how many you have to drink) They also have a wheel you can spin, if you spin the wheel and land on the winning spot, your bill(minus the liquor) is on the house! Such a sweet bar. Make your own Bloody Mary bar on Sunday’s, breakfast all day. Outdoor patio. Pretty awesome if you ask me ! I go here a lot after a day of hiking or hard day at work. First place I ever had a peanut butter burger. It’s a big location so it’s great for groups. Good spot during any sports season.

Great outdoor patio and great prices for booze. It’s also where I learned that Portlanders prefer Olympia beer to Ruff? Riff? Some other fascist-looking beer that was also on special. I’m glad I chose correctly. My friend didn’t, and his face melted off as he screamed in agony. Honestly, it was a little embarrassing. At least we got it on Vine.

I like things simple. Holman’s is simple. I like Holman’s. It’s simple logic really. You see you just order a plate of Tatchos and they show up ready to eat. You order a bloody merry and then it shows up ready to drink. Holman’s has long been a breakfast choice for me and my yeeps of yesteryear. What ever happened to the old days of Unilocal?Who cares, we still have the same places to eat, mostly. Breakfast at Holman’s is geared toward the hangover crowd but it is also just some of the craziest comfort food in the city. Don’t just take my word for it, go get some, bitches! Good Food. Good Drink. Cheers!

I go here to drink and often accomplish this task on the inside(I prefer a seat at the bar) or on the nice large back patio. The servers are always fun and even funny and I have played some free pinball here(thanks to whomever), and often wound down or wound up my nights here. It is a bar. The crowd is mixed in age and cool-factor and I am happy with that.

I wanted a really good burger so my buddy and I went to Bamboo Sushi(I know, he claims the sumo burger is amazing) but the wait was 45-minutes. He told me that a patient had recommended Holman’s because they have the best burger that she has ever had. We took a chance and went. The server came by with menus and she was super friendly. I think I had the Holman’s burger or special… it was so underwhelming that I can’t even remember what it was called. Just a typical backyard burger, something I could make at home but better. The fried egg was overdone and rubbery – when I want an egg on my burger, I expect it over-easy with yolk running all over the burger and my hands. My friend had a standard cheeseburger, very mediocre. What will probably keep us coming back are the affordable drinks and whiskey wall of frame. You get a little metal plaque engraved with your name on the wall if you get through the list of 15 whiskeys. Easy! Wait, you don’t have to do it all in one visit? Even better, that sounds less painful. Hole in the wall, dark, and dingy with sub-par food. If you are looking for a dive bar, definitely go to Holman’s but don’t expect gourmet food.

this place is pretty interesting. they are friendly and great to groups. the vibe is big and open space with kitschy stuff on the walls. good greasy food. lots of options. not somewhere i’ll go often, but if you enjoy a good dark wooden bar with great beer, food and music this place will suit you just fine.

Not the classiest joint — and they’re not trying to be – but Holman’s definitely holds diamond-in-the-rough status! Avoid long waits at overrated brunch spots: Holman’s has AMAZING food, drinks, and it comes to the table super promptly! Great happy hour/late-night hotspot and one of those rare places with an awesome patio, which only a surprising few know about. I definitely recommend Holman’s!!!

Love the Bloody Mary bar! Brilliant idea! Good breakfast. Dive-ish atmosphere. Décor is lackluster with office chairs instead of dinning chairs. One fun aspect, they have a wheel of fortune wheel that you can spin for a chance at free breakfast. Cool idea.

unny how their«not recommended«reviews are all 1 star. Let’s try this AGAIN since my other review got deleted! Ordered 2 veggie scrambles with hash browns. Waited 45 minutes for literally the smallest portions of ICECOLD hash browns, maybe 2 eggs worth of scramble, unmelted shredded cheese, and watery veggies. Told the server we were unhappy with the food set in front of us, she explained that the portions just look small because the«plates are big». Honestly it couldn’t have been ½ a cups worth of portions. When we VERY nicely explained the meals weren’t up to snuff, she said, «…so what do you want me to do?» Sweet girl, but not very helpful! Still charged us for 1 of the scrambles, honestly ate all of 2 bites of each. STAYAWAY!

It is a dive, but it is a fun dive. We dropped into Holman’s on a Sunday morning for breakfast and bloodys at the 80+ year old restaurant and bar. We had a great visit. The best part by far is the make-your-own Bloody Mary bar. They give you a glass of vodka and let you loose on one of the best Bloody Mary bars I’ve ever seen. Will definitely return.
