Favorite coffee place in Portland! Simple and to the point. They have a large variety of different roasts and we were pleased by their Columbian’s. At $ 2.50 per cup, their coffee offers a bold punch with great flavor. If you like watered down, lukewarm, mehh coffee, then this ISN’T the place for you!(You should also reassess your tastebuds) Out of the 10+ coffee places we tried while staying in Portland, Heart remained at the top of our list. They changed up their interior and added a few more tables, that reminded me a little of Good Coffee. It can still get crowded though, so don’t be surprised if there’s a line. My roomie ended up getting 2 bags to bring back to Boston, and I left with a Heart beanie as my PDX souvenir! Thanks for the great coffee, Heart! SOLIDCHOICE

Love this place! So cute and contemporary. And a great place to wait for our table at Screen Door. They don’t make a latte macchiatto, but I ordered a latte with an extra shot of espresso. Sooo good! Perfect creamy, perfect strength! Looks like the locals love this place too because it got quite busy as we sat here catching up and enjoying the scene. I heart Heart!

This place is awesome. The staff is friendly, the pastries are yummy and the coffee is delicious! I was happy to make it here after a friend recommended it, I couldn’t wait to bring some of their coffee home… You know, after I finished my latte.

I came here one morning while waiting to each at the Screen Door! A very hipster looking place, that makes a mean latte! Polite staff and it seems like a great place to get some work done.

What a let down. The shop is very clean, cool décor, more Macbooks than the Apple Store. Very pleasant staff, ordered a large vanilla latte, decaf with the house cashew-almond milk for my wife and I to share. She’s not a coffee drinker, doesn’t drink caffeine and we’re both lactose intolerant. Me, I adore coffee; espresso, french press, stove top, drip… I love ‘em all. But I gave up caffeine years ago, so I’m always hunting for roasters than do decaf right. Heart had only one Decaf whole bean available — Columbian. Coffee came out looking beautiful with the trademark heart in the foam. But $ 6.25 + tip for a 16 oz «large» is bordering on ridiculous. The coffee better make me have a mouthgasm for that much. It was nice that it wasn’t overly sweet like most, but it was incredibly bitter with a very harsh aftertaste. I don’t know if it was the coffee or the cashew-almond milk, but it was a very unpleasant experience. Could have been an off day, but given the price, lack of parking and weak decaf selection, I probably won’t go back.

I love my coffee, but I’ll admit it. I was drawn to the cute cups that reads, «heart.» I am a sucker for all of the cute stuff. Besides that, of course I have to see if the drinks and pastries were good right? My friend ordered a black coffee and a pastry. I forgot what the pastry was called, but it was one of their savory pastries, I believe. It had scrambled eggs on top and the pastry was filled with a sticky rice. I ordered a vanilla latte. We both liked our drinks, but we didn’t really like the pastry. We didn’t expect the pastry to be filled with rice and it was too heavy. We thought it would’ve been really good without the rice, but oh well. The vanilla latte was nice and light. The latte was creamy and the vanilla taste was subtle. I really like the environment of this place. It’s a very cute shop.

My favorite roaster of all time. Heart is the best. I love love love their coffee. You don’t have to take my word for it, they are generally considered the best. Or at least top three roasters in Portland. Which says a lot because there are like eight million roasters in Portland or something. Yeah. So the coffee is 10⁄10 What else? The space is not the most comfortably. I wouldn’t chose heart if I had a lot of work to do. It’s more a space to… Drink coffee. They don’t have couches or anything. The baristas are super friendly. Recommended for getting GREAT coffee. Not as much a place to hangout for more than an hour. But that’s personal preference. I definitely see people working there.

Heart is a quaint, almost hidden, gem on Burnside. The vanilla latte I ordered this morning was almost velvety. Excellent customer service and quite a bit of seating. Love the large windows facing Burnside St. Their logo, yes very simple, but also very sweet.

E Burnside has become a very familiar place in Portland to me. So many great places to stop in at… Heritage Barbershop, Screen Door, and now HEART! The coffeeshop is very simplistic and clean. Seating was a little limited when I went in with my friend. The latte was delicious. Heart roasts their own beans and the coffee tasted very fresh. Definitely a contender to Stumptown! The service was very friendly and I would return here again for sure, but maybe not to work or study. There were not a lot of outlets available. But overall, a great place to stop in and grab a great cup of coffee when you’re out exploring all the great things E Burnside has to offer!

The male barista had a pleasant demure and the place has a clean, hipster vibe. Everyone was on their MacBooks or having conversations with their party. My husband ordered the cortado and I ordered the cashew-almond mocha latte. Both were delicious. You can taste the raw coffee in both drinks, unlike Starbucks sugary drinks. The latte art were pretty & originally drew me to the place. However, the coffee did not disappoint. I can see why the tour book, in the DoubleTree Hotel, recommended the place.

— Beautiful space — Friendly staff — Reasonable pricing — No soy milk, instead they serve a house made almond cashew milk which has an odd sour after taste

Needed a quick pick me up after a long day traveling and exploring downtown portland with my family. I came here roughly around 5pm on a weekday and the place was almost empty. The barista was friendly and I ordered a vanilla latte($ 4) and a pour over. The place is spacious and has free wifi too! Don’t be scared to ask for the password, but from what I remember, the password is «burnside» all lower case: p The vanilla latte is a great drink to share among parents or people who generally do not drink black coffee. I tried a little bit as well and the latte was delicious. The vanilla sweetness was not too overpowering and it was just a perfect cup to drink during these winter days. I unfortunately do not remember the pour over I got, but that was also great as well. The beans that they sell here are roughly $ 15-$ 20 price range and they sell a variety of beans and taste profiles. Out of all the coffee shops I visited on my Portland trip, Heart Roasters is definitely among the top places. Great coffee and open spaces!

My friends and I came to grab some coffee here while waiting for our table at Screen Door down the street. I ordered a vanilla latte with a substitute of their cashew almond milk(an additional $ 1.50). I was hoping that the cashew almond milk would add a unique taste to my latte but after trying my friend’s vanilla latte(sans the cashew almond substitute) they tasted practically the same to me. In total my order was $ 6 which is probably pretty pricey because of the cashew almond substitute but regardless I think $ 4.50 for a small vanilla latte is a little steep in comparison to other coffee places in Portland. Heart coffee definitely caters to those that have a love of bitter coffee; their vanilla latte was too rich and bitter for my liking. The ambiance is definitely very«Portland-like,» and is very hipster. The environment is good for getting work done in a quiet atmosphere with a lot of open space and natural lighting.

This place stole our HEART.(I am a loser) The coffee was so fresh and delicious and the baristas know what they’re doing. Also since it’s a roaster, it smells heavenly. What a great way to start the morning.

Tasty(and pretty) cappuccino and pretzel, but I don’t like the fact that they charged me 75 cents for the accompanying mustard without telling me. Kinda lame.

Came here to sit down and grab some caffeine while waiting for our table at Screen Door down the street. So glad we chose this spot! The vanilla latte and coconut cookie were both really good. There is ample seating without the tables/chairs being too crowded near each other. If I were a local, this would definitely be a go-to study spot. Knocked one star for the pricing– $ 4 for a small latte is a little steep in comparison to other coffee roasters in Portland.

Heart is another stellar coffee shop in Portland. There are multiple locations and I stopped by the Burnside location. The mocha is rich and provided the boost I needed to start my long day of driving to and back from the Oregon Coast for a day of hiking. It is also next to the Screen Door. If you did not get in line in time and are stuck waiting in line for brunch, definitely walk over to Heart for some great coffee. In addition, Voodoo Doughnut Too is nearby and a quick drive away. As any opportunist can conclude, Voodoo Doughnut and Heart coffee is a great way to start a day in Portland. If you are traveling the Portland area and looking for recommendations, please see

The coffee roaster in the middle of the coffee shop is kinda cool… The coffee is good but I do like the other location just a tad bit better because the barista are more friendly. But the barista here are still friendly since they went out of their way to ask me how my day was. You can never go wrong with coffee at a Heart Roaster and I wish I was here when they are roasting the coffee so I can see how they do it. I wouldn’t purposely make a trek out to this side of town just to visit this Heart Roaster location but I do like their coffee a whole lot.

Nice location. Interior is open airy space. Nice chill place to enjoy a cuppa Joe. The roaster is in site so if you’re lucky to time your visit right. Lucky bugger, your sense of smell gets to be enticed! There’s seating around the roaster so you can get a visual-gasm as well. Besides the friendly folks working the machines they have a single record player with a selection of 12″ vinyl records. That is hot as my latte! Then they have these steel wooden seats that reminded me of rigid elementary school seats. My bum was complaining saying that was going to be a numbing experience. Totally the opposite. Those were very comfy and easy on the lumbar. I eased into my seat. Gawked at the roaster, smiled at the vinyl records and single turntable and my taste buds said I heart– Heart! Yummy. Nice latte art of a fern. Way to go Heart! I heart you

I’m sorry, since when do coffee shops only put in one shot of espresso for a large drink?! I ordered large latte and felt like I was drinking plain steamed milk. Is this normal? If so, I apologize for my review. I really wanted to love this place, but it was difficult considering I could taste zero coffee. Go with black coffee here if you want flavor. The space itself is nice — well lit, with their roaster on display and a fair amount of seating, but I’ll need a good coffee to sufficiently enjoy it.

I love specialty coffee, but I’ve never been to a roaster with the actual roaster IN the coffee shop. How cool! I wanted to ask the roaster a bunch of questions, but of course there’s a sign that says to not disturb him. Mocha($ 4.75) I snapped a picture of the art, then drank my mocha on a nice chilly day. So good. Not too sweet, which is probably the biggest thing I look for. I could drink this every morning! We actually stumbled upon Heart Roasters because we were waiting for the famous brunch place, Screen Door, at the end of the block. Blessing in disguise!
