Good Coffee

Popped in while getting work done on my car and found great coffee, relaxed atmosphere, & a delightful staff.

Good Coffee is my new favourite coffee shop. The attention to detail of your entire experience is fantastic — the décor, quality of coffee, service, and ambiance are all wonderful.
The clean, Scandinavian-​inspired, Pacific Northwest-​infused, inviting yet inspiring design is the perfect backdrop to expertly-​pulled espresso and beautifully crafted latte art.
Having visited both Good Coffee locations on my last trip to Portland, I was pleasantly surprised to come across one of the owners at both cafés. He remembered me, where I was from, and wished me well on my trip back to Vancouver. The café’s mantra of #begoodtooneanother (look it up on Instagram) is reflected in the way you are treated from the moment you walk in.
This is my new go-​to coffeeshop in Portland, never to be missed on future visits!

A fantastic unpretentious, quality coffee shop. The baristas are genuinely warm and friendly. They always rotate a wide variety of beans from all over the county. Their seasonal drink offerings are top-​notch as well; case in point: Maple & Orange Latte. Good Coffee’s selection of loose leaf teas is also exceptional.
The shop is located on a corner so it’s got two walls of pretty tall windows, which floods the space with natural light and makes for a bright and cheery ambiance.

Good Coffee wins many awards in my book.
Here are as many I can name without actually being there sipping a Madcap brew:
–Best coffee service in Portland. Never order your coffee to go — it’s always for here. Enjoy the ceramic cups with your extra «carafe.»
–Most unpretentious roaster-​retailer. The friendliest baristas in the world. They are also the coolest.
–They serve non-​Oregon roasted coffee, in case you didn’t already catch the Madcap reference above.
–Charming space: a clean, well-​lighted place with a big ol Oregon state flag.
–Excellent selection of coffees: represent a lot of smaller Portland roasters, as well as the ones we all know and love like Coava.
–Offer a «seasonal» drink: always very creative, though I usually just get the house coffee.

COFFEE LOVERS, UNITE!
There’s definitely something unique about Portland’s coffee. It’s not quite like San Francisco brew, nor is it like Seattle’s best.
It incorporates an exclusive blend of Portland’s finest earthly flavors with microbits of spice and a kick that’s strong enough to make yourself into believing you’re as strong as Thor and as quick as Antman.
Oh yes, the good stuff right hereee.
Believe it or not — I came across this venue on Instagram. @ihavethisthingwithfloors had re-​grammed a user’s photo which included Good Coffee’s beautiful tiled floor and I was immediately inspired.
I was determined to explore this coffee house for myself!
A few months later, I finally had the opportunity to check out the venue in person in Portland and was ecstatic to finally be able to experience the impeccable coffee as well as Good Coffee’s rustic, minimalist venue.
There are two locations in Portland, however, I chose this location specifically because it only about a 2 minute Über ride away from Screen Door. Since I figured that I lined up wayy too early for Screen Down, I thought I’d quickly make a coffee run while I still had the opportunity.
Upon entry, I immediately felt as if I were at home because of it’s minimalistic elements. It was as if the coffee shop itself was a piece of art; white walls, huge windows which allowed plenty of sunlight, monochrome framed photographs, black wooden tables and chairs, dark maple wooden floors, and relaxing cool vibes.
Just exactly what I needed.
The barista kindly asked me what I wanted to order and I had decided that I’d opt for the Chai (8 oz.) $ 3.25. The barista was extremely friendly and briefly went through the menu describing the various brews he had to offer.
Just after a few minutes later, my drink was ready and it came in a lovely clear class 8 oz. cup for my sipping pleasure. The warmth of the Chai was soothing — warming me up from Portland’s crisp fall weather. The Chai was unlike anything I’d had before.
It was a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and lightly seasoned with a hint of cinnamon, even. Every sip was invigorating and refreshing.
Portland, what have you done to me?!
The whole atmosphere of the venue enhanced my experience, making it feel as if time had slowed down a bit as I was able to sit back and relax.
Some people may say that every coffee house is the same, however, I completely disagree.
Coffee houses varies from region to region and if you’re truly an avid coffee lover and coffee house lounger, I highly recommend exploring as many coffee houses as you can when travelling because it will teach you a little more about the region’s culture, brew, and way of live.
With that said, I shall leave you with this quote, «You can’t have a decent food culture without a decent coffee culture: the two things grow up together.» (Adam Gopnik)

The atmosphere, coffee, and service are great here. A huge plus for me is that they offer cortados here, which was a little more difficult to find in other Portland coffee shops. My only regret is that they don’t have this place in Florida.

Excellent staff, Incredible buildout (mostly custom) and, of course, tasty coffee.
I like that there aren’t a myriad of coffee choices present when ordering.
They keep it simple, and they don’t blame you if you have no idea what you’re talking about/​ordering.
They offer some classic pastries, we had a chocolate croissant which was tasty.
Music is what you might expect… one minute we’re listening to some Drake deep cuts, then another employee clocks on and it’s «The National» for an hour.
Great spot, worth a visit, then another one.

8 oz latte and macchiato were perfect! Great spot before leaving for home. Super nice coffee people behind the counter to boot.

(drive by quick stop) Very nice… good fresh coffee. The counter sticks a little too far into customer area… hmmm ‘Kat & Teri’ our coffee makers… cute and fun.

Cool little spot. The expresso drinks are reasonable priced. They also have great selection of pastries. I got the apple cinnamon danish, which was very tasty!
Staff was very friendly and provided great service. The place itself looks nice and open with lots of natural lights. Nothing too outstanding compared to other coffee shops in Portland, but it seems not super busy, which I really appreciate.
Overall, I had a good pleasant experience here. Would definitely come back :)

Favorite coffee shop in Portland. New, hip, great atmosphere, small but plenty of seats and outlets, fast WiFi, and awesome people all around. Plenty of parking if you are from out of town. Stop by!

I rarely write reviews on Unilocal anymore, but I spend half my life in this place now, so figured it was worth it.
It’s the perfect coffee bar for me – warm and welcoming staff, flawless coffee and tea drinks EVERY TIME, interesting non-​traditional options like drinking vinegars and housemade coffee sodas. Bright and beautiful light, a mix of table and counter seating, great music, and rock-​solid wifi. It’s just the perfect place to work or meet a friend. My only complaint are the wonky chairs, but I hear they’re actively looking to replace them.
Love this place. Just an example of Portland doing what Portland does best.

The coffee: Very good. Not much else to say. I got the regular coffee. Neither too bitter nor too acidic. Full bodied. My wife got the mocha. Don’t expect it to be chocolate milk; this is a real espresso drink with semisweet chocolate added. Delicious.
The ambiance: eclectic music taste currently Motown. But earlier R&B. Being on a corner and mostly white with medium tone wood interior gives it an open and airy feel. Comfortable place to sit and chat or get work done. Chairs are trendy and vintage but leave much to be desired in the comfort category.
The staff: very friendly and efficient. They use their time well. When things slow down they use the extra time to get ahead on things that need to be done as they say hello to tourists and welcome the locals. If I were their employee, I would be very pleased.

I just moved to Portland from Philadelphia and was in search of a local coffee shop to become my go to spot. After three weeks of trying coffee shops around the neighborhood, I award Good Coffee that honor. The coffee has been outstanding and the service is extremely friendly. I am able to enjoy an americano black here, and I would normally opt for a little cream to lighten it up. The space is small, but cozy and aesthetically pleasing.
For someone new to town, I’ve really felt comfortable here and the baristas seem genuinely happy to chat with me while they prepare my beverage. What a contrast to the usual «what do you want?» scowl I would get from some of the pretentious coffee shops back east. Good Coffee embodies what I was looking for in my move to Portland.

So I just moved to Portland (from Reno), and while settling in, was looking for an escape from the unpacking/​organizing/​etc. This place is a few blocks walk from where I’ve landed, so it seemed like it was worth checking out.
The interior is pretty sleek and modern, though nothing really stands out — white/​grey marble counters contrasted with some medium tone wood shelves and paneling, 3 group La Marzocco, Mahlkonig grinders, etc.
I’m not enough of a coffee snob to really comment on the coffee, but as a workspace/​escape, it’s pretty good. I’ve been in here 3 days straight now, at various times (mid morning, late morning, and mid afternoon), and it’s never too crowded. It’s got a fair amount of activity, but there seems to always be an open table or counter that I can plop down at with my laptop. Even though there’s a fair amount of customers and what not, the noise level is low, and easy enough to not get distracted.

It seems like every coffee shop in Portland is trying to blend together the perfect combination of a welcoming environment, a knowledgable staff and a solid selection of good coffee. Good Coffee’s staff has managed to do extremely well on all of these fronts. Every staff members greeted me, and when I informed them I was visiting from out of town. They happily recommended some great places to visit.
Great espresso, great staff, great environment. What more can you ask for.

I was looking for a place in my hood to «grab an afternoon bite» on my phone and Unilocal suggested Good Coffee, which had just opened. You were kind of misleading, Unilocal,but I’ll forgive you. While Good Coffee really does not have much in the way of food options (especially by the afternoon when their pastry case is usually sold out), their coffee really is F@*#ING AMAZING! I pride myself on being a cappuccino snob, and this place has the best one in Portland, hands down. In fact, I can’t help but order a latte here because a cappuccino is too small and I always get sad that the drink experience is over too quickly. They have cold brew coffee on their menu, and once I’m over their lattes (I don’t see this happening any time soon) or it gets too hot for hot drinks, I can’t wait to try it!
The baristas are (very cute and) friendly. It’s clear they take their job seriously but are happy to answer any questions you may have («What’s a cortado?» Answer — Their house specialty of a shot of espresso with a small amount of steamed milk and vanilla simple syrup.).
I haven’t been to their outer SE location, but hot damn I’m so happy they opened up in my hood.

An unreserved five stars. This newly opened shop is located directly beneath my apartment but I would make a point to come here even if it were not so convenient.
Good Coffee serves drinks made with a rotating variety of coffee beans roasted by either Mad Cap (Grand Rapids, MI) or Roseline (Portland). In my 5 or so visits so far, the quality and presentation of the espresso served has been nothing short of excellent.
The shop itself is small, with seating for about 15 – 20. However it is comfortable and the space is well utilized. The owners and staff here are friendly and welcoming and have cultivated a warm atmosphere. I feel comfortable coming in with my computer or a book and hanging out for a while. Overall a great addition to the Portland coffee scene and a place I will undoubtedly spending a lot of time at.

I could not be happier that this coffee shop is in my neighborhood! I’ve been visiting the 50something/​E Division location for a while now, but now that it’s walkable from my apartment, I think Good Coffee and I are going to become good friends.
Serving beans from a variety of different roasters both local and national, I’ve been happy with every cup of coffee to come out from their beautifully appointed bar. I typically just drink black coffee, but I have on good authority that their espresso drinks are on point as well.
The space is smaller and more cozy than the SE Division location, so I can see seats being at a premium. If you’re lucky enough to get a table, it’s a comfortable place to work. There are plenty of outlets along the South wall and free wifi, so they’re definitely friendly to the (laptop) working man.
Good Coffee could just as rightfully be called Good People, with friendly and warm baristas exhibiting none of the coffee bar entitlement that can be typical in this city’s scene. They have good taste in music, also.
Moral of the story? This is a great place and a welcome addition. Welcome to my neighborhood, Good Coffee!
